25.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who attended this years conference! It was a terrific success and we hope you all enjoyed it. Were grateful to Nora Grabrowski, Susan Nancarrow, Fred Holtkamp, Andrew Stephens and all our wonderful speakers who generously shared their knowledge and expertise. The conference featured informative presentations, engaging discussions and warm camaraderie - there was even a little drama when the fire alarm sounded, and we were evacuated mid-presentation! A... highlight of the weekend was dinner at Barzura overlooking Coogee Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Exhibitors from the Netherlands, USA and five states in Australia joined long-standing supporters of the industry and symposium sponsors, Gadean Footwear and Lefflers Leather. We also had four new faces supporting us through sponsorships: CYS LOOXZ shoes, ProClinicx, Instride Shoes Australia / NZ and Momentum Health Technology. Striding Ahead 2019 demonstrated once again that the industry is positively looking ahead to the future and we thank you all for being part of it. Next year we head west to glorious Perth. Thanks to Sayed Ahmed of Foot Balance Technology for the happy snaps!
25.01.2022 Thank you. We are pleased to have you down under.

10.01.2022 AHPA has just received the following advice from Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt. In light of some states shutting down non-essential services, the Minister has confirmed that ALL allied health businesses nationally can continue working and are encouraged to do so. The Minister has also indicated that the Department of Health is now developing full allied health telehealth options, along with other health and medical services, within the week. This will be part of a staged plan and he encourages providers to continue vital face-to-face services where possible. AHPA is currently liaising with the Department of Health regarding this development and will be meeting with the Department shortly to discuss details for allied health items.
09.01.2022 Were in the middle of Diabetes Awareness Month and today is World Diabetes Day! This year its all about the families, friends, carers, health professionals and researchers who support and care for people living with diabetes, and the impact the disease has on them. Diabetes is serious stuff, but much can be done to reduce risks. One in every two people with diabetes is undiagnosed; early diagnosis is key to helping prevent or delay life-threatening complications. Managing ...diabetes requires daily treatment, regular monitoring, a healthy lifestyle and ongoing education. An important part of this is looking after your FEET! Doing daily foot checks, controlling blood sugar levels, avoiding hot and cold temperatures on your tootsies, wearing well-fitting shoes with socks and having regular foot assessments will go a long way towards preventing foot ulcers. Together we can protect precious feet, families, friends and folk affected by diabetes. You can find out more at http://worlddiabetesday.org/ #WorldDiabetesDay #footcare #PAA #pedorthics
05.01.2022 Meet Our Keynote Speaker! DR. JAAP VAN NETTEN While most pedorthists are now aware of the importance of measuring plantar pressure to prevent foot ulcers in people with diabetes, one can expect this to become more specific and personalized in the future. In this talk, Jaap will discuss future directions of plantar pressure measurements. He will discuss other measures and thresholds, such as the peak pressure gradient and the physical stress response theory. His talk aims to s...timulate thinking and discussions. See our program for more information and register today!
04.01.2022 PAA is wishing all members and allied health colleagues a happy Allied Health Professionals Day. It’s a day to recognise and celebrate the valuable work you are doing and the vital services you are providing to patients and the broader community. #AHPsDay #alliedhealth #strongertogether
03.01.2022 Say Hello To Our New Logo We loved our old logo, and know many felt the same. And yet, here we are to explain why we decided to change it. In recent years, the pedorthic profession in Australia has evolved rapidly, with the introduction of the Bachelor of Pedorthics course at Southern Cross University, as well as the growing recognition of the pedorthic service offering in allied health by key stakeholders, including Diabetic Foot Australias 2018 Australian guideline on foo...twear for people with diabetes and the National Association of Diabetes Centres Collaborative Interdisciplinary Diabetes High Risk Foot Services Standards. And so we believed our brand identity needed to evolve, with a new logo that reflects a new era for Pedorthics in Australia, which is modern and easily identifiable as the key field that specialises in medical grade footwear and orthotic appliances. The Visual Elements of Our Logo: At first glance, the new logo may just seem like a foot in a shoe. But the following design elements were used to represent the PAA and the pedorthic profession: The topline of the footwear loosely resembles the northern coastline of Australia; The footwear includes a foot orthosis and rocker sole, which are key elements of Pedorthics; The green and blue strokes represent the colours used in plantar pressure mapping. A special thank you to Foot Balance Technology for sponsoring the design of our new logo.
03.01.2022 This week is National Diabetes Week and its about time to check your feet! We know everyone is busy but when you have diabetes, you need to take care of your feet EVERY day. Having diabetes can increase your risk of foot ulcers and amputation, so taking the time to do daily checks and look after your feet makes a big difference. Around 50,000 Australians have a diabetic foot ulcer and diabetic foot ulcers are reported as the leading cause of amputation in Australia. Seriou...s diabetic foot complications can be prevented with timely and appropriate care, advice and access to services. Pedorthists play a vital role in offering preventative and accommodative footwear and orthotic devices for people with diabetes-related foot conditions. So spend your time wisely and visit your Pedorthist to check your feet and footwear, the earlier the better!
