25.01.2022 Australian Rouen Duck out enjoying the afternoon sun at Peel Ridge Stud. Couple of weeks off the breeding season and she is already starting to shine. She is a great type duck and will be key player in the foundations of the next generation to come through.

25.01.2022 So sorry to loose this Camden White Toulouse today, unfortunately egg bound, I couldn't save her. She was one of our top breeders in our flock so no surprise to see that she weighed over 14kg (32 and a half pounds). Elva was a great goose and will be missed very much. Sudden change of weather (30 degrees dropping to 10 degree day) can affect the flock especially in breeding season.

25.01.2022 Welcome the rain at the farm, a couple of thunderstorms this week and hail today at Peel Ridge Stud Australia. The grass has never been so green.

23.01.2022 Toulouse enjoying the green grass. With all the worries in the world I can still find peace with the birds in the yard. I hope you enjoy the photo as much as I enjoy watching the real thing.

23.01.2022 Michael Peel Perpetual Trophy for Best Goose or Gander has been awarded to my grandson, Fletcher Gleeson, who exhibited a Grey Toulouse Gander. This Toulouse was also awarded Reserve Champion Waterfowl. Well done Fletcher, good to see that goose breeding still runs in the family.

20.01.2022 Ross Summerell posted this information about Sebatopols on Rare Breeds Trust of Australia page on the 30th January. I loved it so much I wanted to share it with you along with some photos I took of Sebastopols at Steven Dace property in the UK. Feature Breed: Sebastopol Origin: Crimea, Russia Egg Colour: White Recognised Colour: White (traces of light grey allowable in youngsters)... Fact: Within our features the rare Sebastopol is the first of the Geese variety that we have presented. I am fortunate to own several old books written by Edward Brown (1851-1939), therefore his revered book, Breeds of Domestic Poultry published in 1906 has given me a plethora of research. The Sebastopol goose is a domestic goose breed, descended from the European Graylag. It has been stated that the breed was developed in Central Europe along the Danube and the Black Sea. Edward Brown claimed that it is documented that domesticated examples were originally located in the Crimean Peninsula, and transported, to England, by boat from the port of Sevastopol, Russia as the name suggests. They arrived in England in 1860. The breed was found in all the countries surrounding the Black Sea by the 19th century. They were first exhibited in England under the name Sebastopol Goose, in lieu of Sevastopol, but they were also referred to as Danubian Goose. The name Danubian was first used for the breed in 1863 in Ireland. In Germany and old Prussia, they are called Lockengans or Struppgans, meaning "curl-goose" and "unkempt goose". The Sebastopol goose is a very beautiful breed. The birds have a quiet and pleasant disposition and very good for using as a show bird and also good for raising as pets. The Sebastopol is a medium-sized goose with magnificent long, white curly feathers and is known for that glorious feather pattern. Its a slightly smaller breed thats more friendly than some others. They require special care, because whenever a domestic animal or bird is selected for an unusual characteristic, it requires great care to ensure that vigour and fertility of breeding stock is not overlooked. Adequate supply of water is required for the Sebastopol goose for keeping them clean. These birds are very hardy and are being kept successfully in cold climates. But it is a good idea to provide more protection during cold, wet and windy weather. The ganders are good, and they can be mated with 1 to 4 geese. On an average the geese can produce about 25-35 eggs per year. The breed is also very good for meat production. Sebastopols cannot fly well due to the curliness of their feathers and have difficulty getting off the ground. Alas this makes them prone to predator attack. See more

20.01.2022 Here are some photos taken of Peel Ridge Studs Camden White Toulouse. The lighting was so good the photographer took Over 300 photos. It took me all day to narrow it down to these 20 odd. Hope you enjoy them.

19.01.2022 Another farm we visited in the UK was Sue and Tonys. They had some beautiful examples of waterfowl there, including African Geese, Grey Toulouse geese, Rouen ducks and more. Here are some photos taken onsite. I wanted to say a big thank you to Sue and Tony Axon for making us feel so welcome and for taking the time to show us around their beautiful birds.

19.01.2022 Another beautiful day social distancing....

17.01.2022 We get a lot of enjoyment from seeing that many people are enjoying our photos we have shared from our trip over to Europe. Makes me want to plan another trip and visit more breeders and see more birds. We tried to post all the photos to allow our followers to decide what they wanted to look at and what they could skip over. We recently posted our last batch of photos from our trip but when looking through our footage we found some videos to post and we will be posting a highlights video of our trip over all in the weeks to come.

14.01.2022 On our trip to Europe I spent a full day at @ [470866826352164:274:Anglia Waterfowl & Poultry] in the UK, looking through 1000s of birds. Here is a little of what Nick had, My photographers were out seeing the sights in london so I was left to take the photos on my iphone. I mainly took photos of Nicks waterfowl. I took so many photos I cant fit it into one post. This is the 2nd of 2 posts. A big thank you Nick Wills for having me.

09.01.2022 Congratulations to Fletcher Gleeson for best goose or gander award and reserve champion waterfowl.

08.01.2022 Photos of the Waterfowl at Leipsia Show in Leipzig Germany. With over 46,000 entries, spread over 5 extra large sheds. This was a show of all shows to visit. It took us a little bit to navigate through all the different breeds to find the Waterfowl shed but finally we made it to Waterfowl Breeders heaven and walked up and down the rows looking at thousands of waterfowl birds on exhibition. Having so many birds to judge there is no 1st, 2nd or 3rd, instead each bird gets appoi...nted a score out of 100 and notes on the displayed score card detailing; 1. What is admired in the bird 2. What needs to be worked on and 3. What is considered a defect. All in German of course. A truly amazing concept and expertly organised show. This is the 3rd of 3 posts from the show. See more

08.01.2022 More photos from this month, Peel Ridge Stud Muscovy ducks enjoying the warmer weather. Most of the birds here are 10-11 months old so this will be there first summer and breeding season.

07.01.2022 Things are a little hot out here at the farm. Fires are only 5km away but we seem to be safe, just waiting for the southerly to push them away from us. Although I very much enjoy watching the birds get a much needed relief it breaks my heart thinking of all those people losing their homes and more. The family is meeting every day here on the farm, all the conversations are about the fires and where they are headed next. My and my familys hearts go out the all the people and animals affected by this never ending onslaught of fires.

07.01.2022 Some of Peel Ridges Muscovy ducks, still very young but showing potential. Looking forward to selecting future breeders out of this flock.

06.01.2022 While away in the UK we got to visit the home of the Champion Waterfowl at the Great Britain National Championship Poultry and Egg show. The Call duck who won is owned by @ [100008739131050:2048:Richard Bett]. Here are some photos of our visit to Richards property. Thank you Richard and Jade for taking time out of your day to show us about and for a lovely lunch.

06.01.2022 Geese and ducks having a relax after a busy breeding season here at Peel Ridge Stud.

05.01.2022 The sky isnt red but the smoke is thick and the ground is dry. We are blessed to have access to the Nepean River but we are only using water where needed. This photo had been taken from the other side of our property and as you can see, Lucy the ostrich is feeling right at home in her un-irrigated paddock. She does have a dam to swim in but like all of us she is hoping for rain to come sooner rather than later.

05.01.2022 Short video taken at Richard Bett house. This was a beautiful set up for exhibiton fowls, it was also refreshing to see the green grass over her in Europe. Its either brown or burnt black, back here at home.

04.01.2022 Claire Longbottom here is another video of the turkeys at the Telford show, England. Hope you enjoy them. If you have a look at our photos posted from the Telford show you will also see some pictures of the turkeys.

02.01.2022 Special hatch from last years Grey Toulouse has now become the grandkids favourite. Pugsley has become part of the scenery here at Peel Ridge Stud and under the strict protection of the grandkids. needless to say, she won't be part of the breeding program.

02.01.2022 A yard full of Peel Ridge Stud birds, interested to see if people can name all the different breeds.

02.01.2022 I love sitting out in the afternoon and enjoy watching the goslings grow. No matter what the breeds are, this bunch is a variety of geese with a trio of goose guards.
