As we shift into the new year, many of us will start working on our goals or trying to achieve those new year’s resolutions we made ourselves. Being realistic however, how long will it be before we start feeling guilty about falling off the wagon and giving up? For most, this can happen by January 19 according to research!... When it comes to setting goals most of us do so without a real plan or an understanding of the journey we need to set to succeed. This is where using the SMART planning process might help! Not sure what that is? Let’s go through it together. Read more here: https://buff.ly/3bxgwDY
23.01.2022 People often say, "no pain, no gain," but when your favorite sport or pastime causes pain or discomfort or something just doesnt look or feel right, pushing through the pain may not be your best course of action. In fact, many sports injuries you might brush off as nothing serious may be exactly the opposite especially when youre playing through discomfort or with a limited range of motion. When this happens, you risk not only prolonging your healing but also exacerbating the injury and making it more likely youll get injured somewhere else.

18.01.2022 Whether your exercise goals are for health, aesthetics or athletics, the means to those ends all come from changing your body composition. Thats why our workouts focus on losing fat and building muscle. But true transformation in our bodies doesnt actually occur while were training. It happens during recovery. The reality is that exercise hurts our bodies. And recovery heals them. When we work out, we push our bodies to the point of cellular breakdown with the intention of building them back up stronger and more efficient. With every strenuous bike ride, weight training session or bout of high-intensity interval training, we give rise to this process.
18.01.2022 Lets face it: were all guilty of spending too much time sitting, and its hardly a healthy habit. Now, a new study has shown that you need even more exercise than you may have previously thought to undo the negative side effects.
18.01.2022 We all know exercise is good for us, however we need to look past the motivations of "working on that summer body". We need to understand that exercise truly is medicine and we need to be active to improve our overall health. For women this is even more important as science shows the multitude of benefits exercise can provide to women of all ages and walks of life. Lets look at some of the science on why women need to move for life during womens health week 2020!... Read more here: https://buff.ly/332F6H4
17.01.2022 Always wanted to move a bit more? Running is one of the best forms of exercise for your overall health. From better sleep to a stronger heart and improved mental health, the health benefits are extensive. And you dont need to be a world-class sprinter or marathon runner.
16.01.2022 Think about what we associate with the idea of a good workout: someone sweaty while theyre doing it, breathing hard; someone exhausted afterward; someone who can barely walk the next day. Wow, that was a good workout. But those arent measures of effectiveness or progress. Sweat is determined by how much heat your body is generating. Being out of breath is appropriate during high intensity cardio, but not all cardio should be high intensity. Exhaustion shouldnt be a regular occurrence. And soreness isnt a very good measure of anything at all.
16.01.2022 When it comes to creating a stronger, healthier body, a lot of us will focus primarily on what exercises can help us burn fat, build muscle, and improve our progress towards our goals. However, focusing too much on exercise and not enough on what comes next can lead to a lot of discomfort, pain, and delays between you and your goals. Recovery is every bit as important as exercise. Here, were going to look at what you can do to aid that recovery and make sure your routine stays as effective as possible.

15.01.2022 Keeping active is crucial for staying healthy but a common question on our minds is -how much exercise you should be doing to reach your fitness goals? The type of workout you do ultimately depends on your ability, goals, likes and dislikes, equipment available, what injuries you have, and how much time you have available. Whilst there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, there are principles and guidelines that you can follow and apply to your training to ensure you have a balanced, effective, safe and enjoyable workout regime.
14.01.2022 For many people, an essential part of any exercise regime is the music that accompanies it. Whether you’re a runner, a rower or a bodybuilder, there’s a good chance you have a favourite selection of tunes and some headphones to help you through. The right choice of music can inspire, energise and provide much needed distraction. Elite athletes of every discipline are often seen deep in thought, their ears covered by snazzy headphones, in the moments ahead of a big match or race. So what is it about music that helps us to push our bodies towards or through physical discomfort?
14.01.2022 We often get bombarded with the message regular physical activity is the key to good health and well-being. To most of us, when we hear physical activity, we typically think of aerobic exercise such as walking, jogging, and cycling. But recent evidence suggests muscle-strengthening exercise is very beneficial to our health. In our study, published today, we argue muscle-strengthening exercise deserves to be considered just as important as aerobic exercise. And the good news is strength training can be done by anyone, anywhere and you dont need fancy equipment.
13.01.2022 Over the past 20 years, static muscle stretching has gotten a bad rap. Once considered an essential part of any sport or exercise warm-up, static stretching has now been removed from the picture almost entirely. This move followed extensive research showing that static stretching where we stretch and then hold the muscle at an extended length for seconds or minutes can reduce muscle strength (reflected in things like lifting weights), power (for example, jump height), running speed, balance and other capacities for a short time after the stretching.

13.01.2022 Exercise goals are sometimes created for the wrong reasons... This wonderful insight thinks about how we can reshape our perception! "The remedy was simple. 11.01.2022 Exercise is one of the best things you can do for your health. It’s also the last thing you want to do when you’re tired. But don’t collapse on the couch just yet. If you get your body moving, you’ll feel better. Numerous studies have shown that exercise improves sleep quality. Better sleep means more energy. And it’s easier to exercise when you have energy. It’s a wonderful cycle.
11.01.2022 Right. We're a couple of weeks into 2021, and you've embarked on a new, high-intensity exercise regime. Full of enthusiasm, you launched into boot camp, went to your first spinning class or started running up and down hills in the bush. But afterwards, instead of basking in a warm post-workout glow, you felt close to tears. A session of intense exercise commonly makes us feel pretty good it boosts positive emotions and lowers negative ones.... Yet this isn't the case for everyone, and not all the time. And if it sounds familiar, you are certainly not alone.

09.01.2022 In the midst of a particularly anxious day, or a prolonged depressive episode, the notion of clearing one’s mind and gearing up for a workout can feel downright impossible. Ironically, a study finds forcing yourself to exercise may be the best thing to do in mentally turbulent times. Researchers at University College London conclude those with low aerobic and muscular fitness are twice as likely to experience depression. People who rarely exercise are 60 percent more likely to report feelings of intense anxiety over a seven-year follow-up period.
09.01.2022 We’ve all felt that achy pain that next morning after a tough workout. That unbearable pain in your quads, hamstrings, and glutes that screams at you to stay in bed. You feel good knowing that you put them through a grueling workout and that your gains will certainly show the next day. But is muscle soreness a sign that you had an effective workout?
08.01.2022 Running is one of the most popular forms of exercise, enjoyed by a broad range of age groups and skill levels. More women are running recreationally compared to men; specifically 54% of runners are female as indicated by a 2018 National Runner Survey. Women, however, are at least twice as likely as men to develop stress fractures, an injury that impacts around 20% of runners. However, information is still lacking on how to best prevent and treat stress fractures in women. New pilot research from Jefferson suggests physiological factors that could be included in routine screening for stress fracture risk, as well as changes in training approach to aid in prevention.
08.01.2022 Running has become one of the most popular ways to improve and maintain fitness, and to stay in shape. Although running is a great way to stay active, many runners have to deal with an injury at some point. More than 80 percent of running injuries are caused by repetitive stress, but sudden injuries like a sprained ankle or a torn muscle can happen, too.... Keep reading to learn more about the most common types of running injuries, the typical symptoms, and how theyre treated.
07.01.2022 Its pretty normal to feel full of energy for exercise some days, and as though you cant be bothered on other days. For women, theres a physiological explanation behind this. While mens hormone levels do change over a lifetime, day-to-day they remain quite stable. Women, however, experience fluctuating levels of sex hormones daily. Scientists havent yet worked out the complete picture when it comes to how the menstrual cycle affects exercise. But we know different phases ...of the menstrual cycle, due to the fluctuation of hormones, can affect metabolism and recovery from exercise, particularly for women participating in endurance activities. Understanding the rise and fall of hormones during the menstrual cycle can allow women to adapt their exercise routines, and optimise their chances of succeeding with any training or weight loss goals they may have.

06.01.2022 Parents take pride in seeing their child up on stage, enjoying the spotlight and the applause . Sometimes this can lead young dancers to push too hard, too fast, as well as overlook injuries that can worsen over time. In order to stay in top form, it is important to pay attention to certain factors: the body’s readiness to advance, injury prevention, and prompt treatment of ailments.... https://buff.ly/3ndls3F
06.01.2022 Though its recommended that we get a daily average of 60 minutes of physical activity, many of us struggle to find that much time. This might be one of the reasons high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts which take just 15-30 minutes to complete have become so popular. Though HIIT workouts might be short, a growing body of research shows theyre just as effective as longer endurance workouts for our health and fitness.
05.01.2022 Primary school teachers often provide students with short physical activity breaks to energise kids and minimise classroom disruptions. One study, published in the journal Educational Psychology Review, found we should be doing this for senior students too. We found a short activity break can improve students focus on the task at hand and make them feel more energised.
