20.01.2022 Bringing in the New Year after Closing 2020 When SA Health developed the hashtag #CatchFeelingsNOTCOVID for New Year’s Eve safety strategy, it was enough to make me feel a little more positive about the horrendous year we’ve endured and hopeful that we’ve put the worst behind us. Reflecting back on 2020 is full of unpredictable twists and turns and yet Australians everywhere managed to stay resilient, some discovering a well of resilience they didn’t know they had and underst...andably, a lot of people struggling with the loss of income, deteriorating mental health and increasing isolation with no end in sight. But Australians did get through it, with hope and recovery in mind and like any bonded community, they did it together, stayed connected and will recover together. Despite our differences, Australia was able to stay safe, follow the strategies and wait it out. We flattened the curve. This is resilience in action. At Peer Thinc we’re excited about forging a new togetherness with you and your employees to increase and grow resilience, to create future-orientated goals and achieve outcomes. We’ll do this with our team of experts including me: the newest addition to the team, a professional Aboriginal clinical social worker to ensure that PeerThinc and our practice is inclusive to our First Nations peoples. Aboriginal cultures and their peoples have resilience embedded in our DNA having survived all this time despite challenges upon us. I look forward to working with you in 2021. 16.01.2022 What is Resilience? According to Kathryn McEwen "Resilience is a complex concept with numerous definitions. Central to most of these is the notion that resilience involves being able to withstand and overcome adversity and unpleasant or difficult events successfully and to be able to adapt to change and uncertainty" Is Resilience a State or a Trait? While there are aspects of our personalities that lead to being resilient, research now shows that it is a dynamic state in whic...h we can all play a part in developing in ourselves. Why is building Resilience at work is important? Workplaces are seeing personal stress levels increase exponentially. When you add on top the challenges around COVID19, remote working, loss of hours and having to do more with less the desire to move from managing stress to building resilience increases. At #PeerThinc we support both #individuals and #businesses to develop their resilience and well being by utilising evidence-based tools through the Resilience at Work (R@W) platform. 12.01.2022 Self-Compassion & Resilience in 2021 How about giving yourself the same kind of compassion as you would give others in 2021? Sounds simple but for many of us, we reserve our compassion and empathy for others especially those of us who fulfill formal and informal caregiving roles. ... Resilience requires an ability to enact mental clarity, emotional balance, fortitude, and vision - particularly in times of turbulence, uncertainty and disruption. Let’s face it, 2021 may be a new year, but the context is likely to be very similar to 2020. In order to move from self-doubt and inaction to clarity and action, self-compassion is another skill which enables us to move forward with confidence and helps us to build our resilience. Ask yourself? Is my perspective toward myself the same as I would afford a friend or colleague who is facing a challenge or setback? Self-compassion is not about letting yourself off the hook and being complacent this is a myth. Rather, it is the foundation for resilience and helps you to build the courage to face challenges and realities head on. Self-compassion is foundational to resilience. Having compassion for yourself means that you are aware of and accept your humanness as well as the humanness of others Here’s three tips for self-compassion: 1. Identify your own feelings 2. Practice self-forgiveness 3. Give yourself comfort Consider how you could leverage the same compassion you do with others to treat yourself more compassionately in 2021 and beyond.
