25.01.2022 This is how quiet stallions are made. Quinn having another little ride and some flag training. Pilot is the legendary Zailie Dempster.
24.01.2022 8 years ago today this photo was taken. Richard Hirst on the wonderful reliable Fats and myself on Remiendo. Was a hellva ride that day at Koonoomoo, first it was butterflies that frightened Remi and then crazy bolting for no apparent reason that caused a near death experience. He didn’t stay much longer than that. We don’t tolerate bucking horses for long. They get one free go. That’s it. No matter how magnificent they are, no horse is worth dying for.
23.01.2022 Lovely ride today, myself on the giraffe Zara, sporting her new fantastic boots. Zailie Dempster on Elmer and Zoe on Bitty. She was a hot one so took them down too the river. Saw a baby Fox too. It was adorable, photo in the pics. Ran off and we couldn’t find it again.
23.01.2022 Ride number two for the day, Puzzle and Zanzibar got to come out and about next. I love riding with Puzzle, looking at her gorgeous spots and patches just makes me smile. Puzzle has a patchy pally/bucky foal in her now, that’ll be an exciting one. Zanzi cruises along so easily for a baby horse. Not much phases her. I’ll decide which outside stallion to use over her this season as she’s by Silver.
23.01.2022 A Breeders note to a potential buyer: Thank you. I love that you thought my horse was worth inquiring about. After all the time, money, and effort that has gone into each and every horse it is wonderful to see other people appreciate the horses. However, please remember that these horses are mine. They are part of our family now, and if I have my way, even after they leave... we will simply adopt their new people as part of the family. ... I am in no way shape or form obligated to sell you any of my horses. These animals are my responsibility, and if I sell them to an owner that sends them off to someone who is not kind and understanding of them... that is my fault. It has happened and that is something that weighs on me every day. If I sell a horse, and I see a previously happy horse unhappy, it breaks my heart. If I sell a horse, and it is on-sold without an offer from the owner for me to buy it back, it breaks my heart. If I sell or lease a horse that has a ton of potential, only to see it looking less than it is, it breaks my heart. Especially if it’s skinny and malnourished. I can forgive scruffy feet or a knotty tail, I’m not perfect myself. But seeing all their bones on show for long periods slays me. I understand broodies get skinny at weaning time, yearlings get gangly or ribby stallions in the middle of breeding season. I see this every day with Silv now. No amount of bales in the paddock, lucerne twice daily or hard feeds holds the appeal of real live mares in his paddock. So you understand, to protect my heart is to protect my horses. I will not sell a horse just to have it sold. Yes, that is absolutely the smarter way to go about being a Breeder, without a doubt. However it’s not something I am capable of doing, and something I am not obligated to do. I have found plenty of great people to sell horses to, that love them, care for them and send them to good trainers and let me be part of their life. Please keep this in mind when inquiring on horses, not everyone is like this, but I know some others are. There have been a couple of times I have even been lied to about what the future held for that horse, and while I cannot control it, I can never sell a horse there again. Once bitten twice shy. If you think selling a horse means I no longer have to worry about it, think again. I stress about them constantly, hoping they are ok, hoping their trainers like them, hoping they are loved by at least one person that works with them daily. These are the things I lose sleep over, worry about . I can never thank the owners of the horses that keep in touch and let us continue to be apart of their lives enough... This post was not written by me but the message within is very close to my heart. Pictures are of Silv ans his kids and just some of the foals that will always have a piece of my heart.
21.01.2022 Took Silv and Eros for a play in the water at Greens Lake today with Melissa Sessions. Met the fabulous Bella Barnard there with her mare Remy. Lots of splashing by Silv who delights in pounding the water. A few good long canters, I love Silv for that after we had a half time swap. Had some good chats and snacks post ride.
20.01.2022 Titan had his first saddle on and over scary stuff today. Wasn’t phased at all. Just the barefoot because it’s comfortable for them and is nice and light. I get all these lessons over and done with while they’re young and he’s going to be huge and I can still reach up easily he’s going to be an awesome riding horse one day. So proud of the horses we create here.
15.01.2022 Eros doing his best impression of pippi longstocking. He gets an infection under that big heavy feather every summer. So we have to clip it all off and prednoderm it. We have an understanding now, NO spray bottles. Anything applied must be wiped on by hand for him to remain his usually angelic self. Spray bottles makes him a kicky bastard, which isn’t welcomed in an 800kg pony.
15.01.2022 One of Silver babies competing in his first open show. I’m so proud of them and privileged to be involved in the lead up questions and assistance.
10.01.2022 Paddock swap for the two youngins Titan and Tanzi. Elmer is now herd leader, a role hes relishing being the bottom of the food chain for a while. After a brief run around he led them straight to the round bale. And has been there ever since. Titan is maturing beautifully and isn’t far off Elmer’s height at one year old. Tanzi takes zero rubbish off the boys and does as she pleases, but happy to be teamed up with Elmer. I can’t quite relinquish her to the 50 acres yet, my little sassy pants amber cream filly.
09.01.2022 Happy birthday to this little leggy filly in 2014 to now. Pegasus Lodge Final Romance HSH also known as Zara. Now one of my ASH riding horses and future broodies. Also my tallest at 16.3hh. Hopefully Dahlia will follow suit and give up the dun baby today.
08.01.2022 The time has come for Bailey the bucky spotty pony to find his new family. He’s impeccably behaved as a lead line pony and can be independently handled by the kids. He’s been shown in the fun ring and was a delight to take out. Had a nap tied at the float even when we took his mates away. I’ve ridden him and he’s plucky and forward moving. Make for a good second pony if to be ridden independently. He’s probably a bit perky for a total beginner off lead. He’s 16 years old and about 13.2 hh I think, I need to put the stick on him. Floats like a dream, good for the farrier, loved his little people. Hes good to catch in a small paddock can require snack incentive in a big paddock, he is a pony after all. He’s currently at my place in Congupna VIC. Priced at $2000 negotiable.
08.01.2022 Rode Silv bareback back to the paddock and led the clydie Ruby off him, waited for their hay bale to come by forklift.
07.01.2022 Elmer was initiated into his future role of kids pony tonight. Accompanied by ole Bitty we had a lovely walk around Zoe’s block with a half time kid swap. He did a marvellous job. And the kids were gorgeous in their jammies, helmets and ariat boots. A paddock swap necessitated by Elmer escaping the 50 acres to eat Sez Candy garden. He’s so very good and very bad all at the same time. I’m so lucky to have her as a neighbor.
07.01.2022 Quinn and Roulette are now at boot camp to learn some manners for the up coming foal show. Both loaded and travelled really well and settled into their new lodgings.
05.01.2022 I’d forgotten how lovely and super easy Vegas is to ride. Smooth as silk at all paces and zero direction required when out and about. Such a good girl with 6 months or more off. No longer lame which is terrific. Zailie rode the lovely golden child Mylah at the start and then we did a half time swapsies. Mylah would have to be one of the prettiest mares I’ve bred and is sensational to ride.
05.01.2022 Like peas in a pod mother and daughter Stella and Eclipse. Eclipse is marginally taller than her 14.1 and a bit dam so here’s to hoping she magically has a growth spurt and hits 15hh. Can you tell which is which. I’ve one in each hand in the first two photos.
03.01.2022 Happy birthday too Pegasus Lodge Little Eclipse, our very first black tobiano that we’ve bred turns two today. Such a lovely little lady and a pleasure to work with have around.
02.01.2022 I am struggling to keep up with all the Bailey inquiries. If I don’t message you tonight it’ll be tomorrow. Thank you for your patience.
02.01.2022 Farrier day today, nice and early to beat the heat. Eros, Titan, Casper, Silv and Vegas were done. Big thanks to Tim Griffiths for his patience with Titan and Capser and taking the time to befriend them before going near their feets.
01.01.2022 Puzzley Wuzzler getting her teeth done at long last. They needed doing the poor love.
01.01.2022 Taken one minute before she spat me off onto the driveway. Lucky I’m well padded, you patchy toad Porchia. Got back on and did some lovely arena work and finished up stepping over logs. That’ll learn me for not stretching out her legs prior to take off. And not bringing her favourite stallion along for the ride.
