25.01.2022 Our AGM is next Wednesday night! Current members are welcome and encouraged to attend by Zoom - see the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/251739982547519/ Behind the scenes our kindergym is managed by a team of volunteers - a few who have been around for years, and will be moving on soon. We need support from our kindergym community to keep the club running well - it would be fantastic to be able to hand on the key roles to the next generation of committee members (...like you!) In spite of coronavirus, the club is in a strong position so this is a good time to take on a role while some old hands are around to support you. Please RSVP to the Facebook event or email us at [email protected]
25.01.2022 Hi all! This week I have an extension on my first KinderGym at Home - Gymnastics Shapes, if you missed it heres a link: https://www.facebook.com/PEKindergym/posts/3184437541566837... Here are four more shapes done sitting on the ground. Many KinderGymers may recognise these positions from guided discoveries done at KinderGym and JuniorGymers should be familiar with these shapes. Have fun and take care, Angie. KINDERGYM AT HOME GYMNASTICS SHAPES 2 PLEASE SUPERVISE AND PARTICIPATE IN THE ACTIVITY WITH YOUR CHILD Clear a space on the ground, remove shoes and wash your hands before starting. 1. L-Sit: We use this shape during our Warm Up and Cool Down in each class, it should be very familiar to KinderGymers! Sitting on their bottom, legs out straight in front, back up tall, looking straight ahead. 2. Straddle: sitting on bottom with legs out wide, back up tall, not leaning backwards or slumping forwards. 3. Tuck: from your L-Sit position, tuck knees up to chest, holding onto to front of your legs and trying to balance on your bottom careful not to roll around and crack open like an egg! 4. V-Sit: this is a hard position! From the L-Sit shape, lift up your legs to make your body into a V. They can put their hands on the ground beside them at first to get their balance. See the pictures below for a guide!

24.01.2022 Hi all, I have a simple playdough recipe for you today, perfect for kids to get involved with the measuring and mixing - then they have playdough to use for the week! Have fun and take care, Angie.... KINDERGYM CRAFT IDEA - PLAYDOUGH PLEASE SUPERVISE AND PARTICIPATE IN THIS ACTIVITY WITH YOUR CHILD YOU WILL NEED: 2 cups plain flour 3/4 cup table salt 4 teaspoons cream of tartar 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 2 cups warm water a large pot a wooden spoon food colourings biscuit cutters a rolling pin INSTRUCTIONS: 1. mix in flour, salt, cream of tartar, oil and water in a large pot until combined. 2. Adults Only: Stir continuously over a medium heat until that mixture forms a doughy ball. 3. Place aside to cool, until it is warm enough to handle comfortably then knead until it forms a smooth dough. 4. Colour as desired. I recommend cutting into thirds and colouring the primary colours red, yellow and blue. 5.Cut each of the coloured playdough into half. PLace half a aside. Then cut the other half in half again. 6. Matching up the quarter balls of primary colours, knead them together to make the secondary colours, orange, purple and green. 7. Spread out the dough with a rolling pin then use biscuit cutters to make fun shapes! 8. Store in an airtight container, or wrap in clingfilm to prevent from drying out when not in use.

10.01.2022 Hi all, I have a couple ideas here of ways to use the beanbags I gave instructions for on Wednesday. These are great for afternoons stuck inside when it is wet out in the backyard. I have tried to include a little something for all ages. Cheers, Angie KINDERGYM AT HOME BEANBAG ANTICS... PLEASE SUPERVISE AND PARTICIPATE IN THE ACTIVITY WITH YOUR CHILD YOU WILL NEED: A few beanbags (see Wednesdays KinderGym Craft idea on how to make your own balloon beanbags, or you can use small stuffed toys, balls etc) A basket (or bowl) A couch INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Place a basket a few feet away from the couch. 2. Have your child put their feet up on the couch and hold themselves up with their arms, facing the floor. 3. Place a few beanbags between their hands and have them grab one at a time and try to toss it into the basket, whilst holding themselves up with only one arm. OR if they are younger place a couple beanbags on their back and see how long they can balance them there, whilst holding themselves up with their two arms. For very young KinderGymers, that may not have the strength to hold themselves up with their arms yet, have them lay down on their stomach and try to throw the beanbags into the basket placed about 50cm away from their reach. 4. Another great way for them to use beanbags is with their feet! Have them sit on their bottom and try to lift the beanbags up using their feet and place them, one at a time, in the basket.

06.01.2022 Hi all, I have a great little KinderGym Craft idea to while away an afternoon balloon beanbags! I made these back in my own childhood days and had lot of fun mixing and matching the colours of the balloons. I will follow up with some activities using these on Friday. Cheers, Angie.... KINDERGYM CRAFT IDEA BALLOON BEANBAGS PLEASE SUPERVISE AND PARTICIPATE IN THIS ACTIVITY WITH YOUR CHILD YOU WILL NEED: 2 balloons per beanbag 1 cup of dried beans (or rice etc) per beanbag Scissors A Funnel INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Inflate one of the balloons and then let the air escape, this stretches the balloon enough to allow you to fill it. 2. Insert the funnel into the mouth of the balloon. 3. Slowly drop the beans into the funnel (great fine motor activity!). 4. Tie the balloon closed 5. Adults: Cut the neck off the other balloon. 6. Stretch it over the bean filled balloon so the tie is covered. 7. Adults: Cut a few decorative holes, being careful not to cut the inner balloon. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH THE BEANS AND ANY PIECES OF CUT BALLOON AS THESE ARE CHOKING HAZARDS. PLEASE SUPERVISE WHILE YOUR CHILD USES THE BEANBAGS IN CASE OF BREAKAGES.

05.01.2022 Hi everybody, During the last few weeks I have posted instructions for homemade handheld equipment that we usually use during our WarmUp at KinderGym. I have a couple final, simple ideas of things you may already have or can find quite easily to finish off your set of WarmUp equipment. I have previously posted how to make bottle shakers, wrist ribbons, egg shakers and pompom shakers. This week I have my final two ideas, tapping sticks and dancing scarves, which are both fairl...y simple so I thought I would post them together. Neither involve a lot of crafting, unless you want to decorate them, but I thought we could round out the handheld equipment this week. During the weekly videos Karina and I will be using these in rotation, but dont feel pressure to make everything. Just encourage your child to use whatever you have at home or to clap and shake their hands instead. It is more important to get your kids up and moving, and to give them a few minutes of entertainment, than it is to feel pressure to have all the equipment ready before you watch the videos. Crafting isnt for everyone, but KinderGym is for every child. Next week I will start posting some more general pre-schooler craft ideas! I hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to getting back into classes as soon as it is safe to do so. Take care, Angie. KINDERGYM CRAFT IDEA FINAL WARMUP HANDHELD EQUIPMENT PLEASE SUPERVISE AND PARTICIPATE IN THIS ACTIVITY WITH YOUR CHILD TAPPING STICKS: 1. Find two sticks thick sticks about 20cm long. Clean and sand off any rough parts. OR Use two wooden spoons. 2. You can use them as they are or decorate with stickers, washi tape, Posca pens etc. DANCING SCARVES 1. Use two small lightweight scarves. OR Use two small colourful dusting cloths or flannels. 2. You can use them as they are or decorate these with fabric pens.
