23.01.2022 Pelena celebrated its 22nd birthday last month. We appreciate all the support we've received over this time. Thank you to all, especially across the seas! In response to the "New Normal" that is arising from Covid-19, and our motto that "Good Products Help People", we've developed a new product we've named the Washer Worm. Please check it out www.facebook.com/WasherWorm

17.01.2022 Ash from the volcano on Ambae Island has forced the evacuation of its 11,000 residents. The predominant trade winds blow the ash towards the north-west of Ambae, away from Maewo Island. However, on 28JUL2018, the eruption of ash was so powerful that it reached a height (some reports stated 39,000 feet) whereby the winds were travelling in the opposite direction, bringing the ash over the top of Maewo Island. Although the ash fall only lasted overnight, the winds kept blowing it from the trees for many days to follow. Truly horrible experience.

16.01.2022 Today is the 98th anniversary of the official opening of the Dorrigo Hydroelectric system. 25th November 1922. Reports in the local newspaper during WWI said the town faced an "energy famine". The community partnered with the local Dorrigo Council and NSW Public Works to build the system. Residents were the guarantors! Some photos from the day (with thanks to Dorrigo Musuem) - People on the hydro weir... - NSW Premier Sir George Fuller flanked by John Williamson (L) and George Edwards (R). 15.01.2022 Pelena Energy relocated to the wonderful community of Dorrigo 13 years ago. We just celebrated our 21st birthday of successful design and manufacturing in rural Australian - exporting to the world! We have had great success working with overseas communities and governments, but zero success with our own Australian Government! After multiple trips to Canberra, it's clear from all politicians (National, Liberal, and Labor) that the electorate of Cowper has been the butt of jok...es around Parliament because it hasn't had decent representation for donkey's years. We are supporting Rob Oakeshott at this election due to his integrity and commitment to the people of Cowper. This is crunch time for rural jobs and I urge you, if in Cowper, to vote for Rob Oakeshott for the best chance for you, your communities, and your children. 12.01.2022 Using quality products, appropriate designs, experienced supervision and training allows rural people in remote areas to build their own renewable energy systems.

09.01.2022 Reference was made in yesterday's NBN TV news report about the original Dorrigo Hydroelectric system, opened in 1922. We produced a timeline (with the assistance of the Dorrigo Museum) which can be viewed at http://www.pelena.com.au//Timeline-of-Hydro-Electricity-in

07.01.2022 Pelena Energy was engaged by the Government of Vanuatu to undertake Stage 2 of the Talise hydroelectric project which involved the high-voltage network. The original request was for overhead HV lines, but Pelena determined an underground option would better suit the conditions of frequent cyclones and earthquakes. Some savings were found which Pelena offered to redirect to putting lights and powerpoints in the two boarding schools (Sulua and Nasawa) and the main clinic at Nasawa. This is a great win-win outcome for all involved. Pelena Energy sincerely thanks the Vanuatu Department of Energy for their faith and commitment to this project and Pelena Energy.

03.01.2022 Many thanks to all those associated with fighting the bushfires. To give some idea of the scale of the Bees Nest fire, west of Dorrigo, here's the burnt area superimposed over Sydney. It is presently more than 100,300 hectares in size. (adopted from the RFS's "Fires Near Me" website.)

03.01.2022 Ever wondered how a Pelena micro-hydro system works? Hopefully this video will assist: https://youtu.be/Bwe1YvbI1QE
