25.01.2022 Wildlife constantly pay the price for litter created by human activity. This Little Black Cormorant who calls the lake at UQ St Lucia home is yet another victim of people whose actions are careless, thoughtless and/or just plain lazy. Clean up your act people its not just about us.

22.01.2022 G'day to our FB friends. While stuff is happening all around the globe we are feeling pretty lucky to be living in Oz. Still sorting the carjacking issue but the support from everybody has been exceptional especially from those who have given donations namely Ray Ison, BIRO & Chris Talbot. A grant from WIRES has also been of assistance. Plenty of offers to set up a 'go fund me' page but everybody is feeling the pinch so we felt it inappropriate. Luckily Nat made the old PaSR... rescue vehicle available temporarily and when the calls started to come in it was hard to say no to the many little dudes in trouble. Fishing line entanglements take first prize again as there was no ban on fishing during Covid for any age group. Just a few pics from our latest rescues. 1-Pelican Shorncliffe 2-Pelican Wivenhoe Dam 3- Dusky Moorhen Ormiston 4- White Ibis Cleveland 5-Silver Gull Shorncliffe 6-White Faced Heron Bald Hills. Big thanks to Kelly our Northside spotter. See more

22.01.2022 We want to thank everybody who has posted the story of the PaSR rescue vehicle hijacking yesterday around 2pm on Wynnum Road under the Tom Burns bridge. The car with the juvenile magpie (going for release at Redcliffe) aboard is still not located. Pretty sure the search would be more intense if maggie was a human child. This was a well planned crime as the car that rammed our car was stolen that morning. Thanks again for all the support we just want maggie back unharmed.

19.01.2022 Not sure how this female Australian White Ibis ended up with this pile of filler foam on its foot as it sets pretty quickly apparently. Clara was originally named Clarence until we informed the 2 concerned Kallangur residents Bobby & Barbara that she was female. There was no injury sustained by Clara due to their fast reporting and a 'clean & release' was achieved for 1 lucky Ibee.

18.01.2022 While the rain has been widely welcomed and given much needed relief to a fire stricken county it can also present with a few problems for the waterways. 4 pelicans at a private property in Eagleby have fell victim to possible toxic waste flushed out by the recent big rains down Logan way. PaSR has been monitoring both this property and Berrinba Wetlands for 12 years and after much testing a conclusive answer has not yet been reached.

18.01.2022 It is highly unlikely that we would have to perform a rescue in this small lagoon in the Brisbane inner suburb of Red Hill where a crow was suspended from a overhanging tree branch by fishing line. There is a 'No Fishing' sign in clear view. It was a bit challenging due to the terrain but achievable. Thanks to Pat for her assistance with the rescue and to Gail Austen for her continued support supplying the wave riders that have assisted PaSR with so many rescues.

16.01.2022 So precious and so sadly lost.

16.01.2022 Update: Ruggy the rescue vehicle has been recovered but not in its glorious state any longer. Some rescue equipment has also been recovered just wont know what till it is all released after forensic testing. 7 youths (2 x 15 yr olds) have been charged in relation to the hijacking of Ruggy. Thanks to all our FB friends as this would not have been achieved without your assistance you mob of Sherlock Holmes and to all your wonderful words of support. xoxo

16.01.2022 Fast food outlets have these tops for drinks frozen or other wise and they have proven to be a real hazard to the wildlife because they are left derelict everywhere. This is not the first animal PaSR has rescued wearing one of these as a collar but luckily for this juvenile magpie no injury was inflicted on the beak, tongue or neck. Thanks to Gwenda from Gaythorne for alerting us to the plight of this young maggie who was released back home after a vet check from the team of Brisbane Bird and Exotics Vet.

16.01.2022 Report any sighting of our rescue vehicle as there is a juvenile magpie aboard which was going to Redcliffe for release. This appears to be an organised hijacking as the car that rammed the PaSR rescue vehicle was also stolen. Pleeze help us get little maggie back safely. PaSR team.

15.01.2022 Inappropriate fishing practices continues to be a negative product of COVID19 as they remain unchecked and are impacting on the wildlife and their environments as a result of a lack of education and frustration due to the pandemic. Most recent rescue calls to our 24/7 hotline have been for fishing line entanglements. A simple request - respect our environment and the wildlife as it all matters. Thanks to Katrina, Dannielle, Mitchell and Mandy for caring about this special pelican at Victoria Point Boat Ramp

14.01.2022 Life has always been about timing & choices. Covid 19 has actually assisted the gang who stole our rescue car with little maggie in it because our Queensland police force is already understaffed to deal with the outbreak of domestic violence. This is the reason we were given for not being able to attend the address of our cars last known location. This info came with a pic & an exact address. The car has been stripped bare & little maggie is reported as deceased whether by fa...ir or foul means is undecided. Justice is easier said than performed. While our little but pro active organisation has endured many an environmental crisis this event & being able to recover from it has already taken it toll. It is with grave sadness that PaSR will begin the wind down process. The last 17 years has been filled with learning, emotion, good & bad times but the support has been given unconditionally & for that we thank you. Goodtime Surfing Wooloongabba and the Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd have been our constant supporters for the entire time. Stay safe everybody as this is only the beginning & life as we knew it will never be the same. The PaSR team. xoxo PS Please call 1300 animal for all rescues. See more

13.01.2022 Its fair to say this Crested Tern was caught hook, line & sinker. Thanks to Kelly who reported the Tern to PaSR when walking her 2 doggies along the Sandgate foreshore at 3.40 am this morn. Apologies for the bad pics as there was not very good lighting at that hour. Message to all anglers - DO NOT CUT THE FISHING LINE IF YOU CATCH A BIRD REEL IT IN & CAREFULLY REMOVE ALL THE LINE. ALWAYS BE MINDFUL OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS BEFORE CASTING OUT & NEVER LEAVE SET LINES UNATTENDED.

13.01.2022 If only the wildlife could talk this Silver Gull from Wynnum Foreshore would be able to dob in the human who decided it was a good idea to tie plastic striping to 1 leg and material to the other leg in what could be described as some sort of tether situation. Whoever did this must have got bored with the whole thing and luckily for gully set the bird free before permanent damage was sustained to the legs. If anyone knows who might be responsible for this act of cruelty please advise the authorities as it is well documented that animal cruelty is only the beginning of a much more sinister career.

10.01.2022 Hard to get into the festive mood when, to quote the words of Pink, 'There is so much wrong going on outside'. The Australian Wildlife was doing it tough before these catastrophic bush fires. School holidays have not officially started and the PaSR team is already flat out with the regular calls for flighted birds with leg entanglements, broken beaks etc. but this crow (Murarrie) and magpie (Ormeau) presented with a very different dilemma for us and our wonderful vets. Both birds were called in within 2 weeks of each other.

09.01.2022 Of the 25 flighted bird rescues so far in 2020 nine have been magpies with 4 being leg entanglements. No 1 (Ascot) & No 2 (Wakerley) were both double leg entanglements. No 3 (Mt Cotton) & No 4 (Rocklea Markets) were single leg entanglements. All 4 were 'clean and release' because they were called in before any permanent injury was inflicted on the birds. Thanks to all those people who take the time to care for the wildlife. xoxo

06.01.2022 Happy New Year to all the friends of PaSR but not sure if this is the best way to start a New Year. Called into RSPCA as an Emu in big trouble where the caller had even placed wet butcher paper over it with an umbrella on top to keep it cool. Sal had to apply mouth to mouth to save it. Um!!!!

05.01.2022 This sub adult pied butcher bird appeared to have a sweet tooth when sighted at the Beaudesert Coles but that proved to be an incorrect assumption as the mince was much more appealing upon rescue. This is unusual behaviour when holding a wild bird but it might have been because he/she was trapped in store for 3 days apparently. Butch was still in good body condition possibly because of the food selections he/she had available during the stopover so the best result - a clean and release - was achieved.

02.01.2022 Thanks to Mark Cosgrove for choosing Pelican and Seabird Rescue Inc as the charity for this special tournament. Friends of PaSR and any Handball fanatics are welcome to pop in and say G'day.

01.01.2022 These 3 rascally magpies (originally 4 but 1 ran out of money and left) decided to do a bit of Xmas shopping at the Kenmore Woolies but forgot where the exit was. A little directional guidance with the use of some fresh tasty mince got them to the exit door with all their shopping.

01.01.2022 This was 1 very lucky pelican as the 10 plus meters of braided fishing line that was trailing from the wing, which had a very large hook embedded in it, could have become entangled in any obstacle in its path. The fishing line had prevented pellie from flying but paddling fast was not a problem which gave Hammy a fair chase. A 'clean and release' was achieved and pellie was released back at the UQ St Lucia lake without injury. Thanks to Heather for her assistance during the rescue.
