24.01.2022 BRUSHED vs BRUSHLESS: Trolling motors have been around for many years already and the benefits of having a quiet operating system, as well as one which doesn’t pollute the environment, are well known. The next key evolution is differentiating between two distinct categories: BRUSHED or BRUSHLESS. There are some very key differences to be aware of, with Brushless motors quickly taking over from brushed motors given their greater capabilities: 1. Variable (dynamic) speed contr...ol (as opposed to choosing from limited set speeds) 2. Lower maintenance: due to superior design & no brushes or commutator erosion 3. This leads to longer lifetime for your system, so you’re not needing a new unit every summer 4. Higher power to weight ratio: you can choose a much more powerful 80LB system weighing the same as a 40LB unit; this can get you through high wind, current and vegetation in a much simpler manner. 5. Even less noise! The lack of brushes eliminates more noise than a brushed motor, let alone a petrol outboard alternative. 6. Higher efficiency systems: So you won’t drain your battery as quickly and can stay out on the water longer 7. Safer to operate: Our systems have in-built safety features, but also Brushless units have better heat dissipation capabilities, so your motor doesn’t overheat. This next stage of Pelican Trolling Motors provides higher power, more runtime, better safety and more control options for all boat owners. The future of boat motors is electric! www.trollingmotors.com.au

13.01.2022 THE LONG & SHORT OF SHAFT LENGTHS: A question we are often asked about here is regarding the length of trolling motor shafts, seeing as we offer the option to CUSTOMISE the length to suit your boat. So, what impact does this have on your boating experience? It’s important to get your trolling motor set in the right position for best possible performance ensure you have enough clearance between your vessel and the propeller, but also that it doesn’t sit too deep if operating... in shallow waters. Many systems are smaller and less powerful, with standardised 36 shaft (91cm) the most often seen. BUT: Pelican Trolling Motors Brushless range come standard with a 100cm shaft for a few important performance reasons 1) This length is great for larger boats, which previously had neither the power nor shaft length available to suit their thrust requirements. It also accounts for the greater height of a vessel that may require, for example, a 160LB thrust motor. 2) Having some extra room to adjust your mount ensures the system sits in the optimal position, not just for the propeller at one end, but also for the control handle at the other. 3) When operating in rough conditions the motor can obviously rise and fall along with your boat, so the longer shaft is great for ensuring your motor stays in the water and maintains stability while you steer. The 100cm has been chosen as our standard because it will suit most boats which use motors within this power range and smaller watercraft also. We are happy to custom-make longer shafts for bigger boats needing extra length, or shorter ones where you may have a vessel that’s often using shallower waters. The important thing is that you have the choice, and we are always happy to discuss your needs.

12.01.2022 As with any purchase, first and foremost, you want to make sure that what you are buying is safe. This is especially true while you are out on the water. You want a system that’s easy to set up, easy to control, lightweight, starts safely and keeps you informed of exactly when it’s time to re-charge. Our range of Brushless Trolling Motors all include FIVE SAFETY FEATURES as standard and we do not compromise on safety. Here’s what you can expect from these systems: 1. Start pr...otection: If the handle speed scale is in ZERO position when connecting to the power the program will start properly with an accompanying sound. If NOT in Zero position then the motor will not start, in order to protect the user from being injured by a sudden start. 2. Reverse connection protection: When the wire connection is reversed the motor will not start in order to protect the motor. 3. Overheat protection: If trolling motor propellers are entangled by items which cannot be set loose the motor could overheat. If the temperature of the motor reaches 110 C the controller will go into temperature protection mode: Power output will be reduced down to 50% in order to protect the motor, battery and operator 4. Low-Voltage Protection: When the voltage is displayed below the required (ie, 20V on 24V system) the controller will enter the Low Voltage Protection Mode: Power output will be reduced down to 50% to avoid damage or injury to motor, battery and operator 5. Stall protection: If the motor stalls, the controller will enter the stall protection mode: Power output will be 6A to protect the motor Take care, and always make sure to follow water safety guidelines by wearing your life vests and ensuring there are no swimmers or other hazards within vicinity of the propeller.

11.01.2022 Looking for an electric motor for your boat and not sure where to start? Check out the below starter guide to help get you sorted 1. SAFETY: For the operator and for the motor, it is important both are protected out on the water. Ensure your unit comes with features that will protect you from incorrect operation whilst out on the water, protecting you from injury and the motor from being damaged. 2. BRUSHLESS: These motors have higher efficiency, higher starting torque and ...generally quieter, lighter and more compact than brushed versions. You also maintain greater control, as they run at any speed & are easier to reverse 3. POWERFUL: Extra power translates to better control in less than ideal conditions, such as strong currents and high winds. A generally suggested formula is to go with the most powerful system allowable on your boat, given your budget and the weight/load and battery options available to you. 4. MOUNT: Ensure you have an adjustable mount, easy to install or remove, and one that is kept centred as best as possible. Transom mount works great when you are using these systems as your main thrust source and for boats of up to 20ft plus. 5. SHAFT: So much of your motor’s performance depends on the length of the shaft and its positioning in the water. A general rule applied is often 20-25cm under the water. This will differ between transom or bow mount options, but also make sure to account for factors such as high winds lifting your boat and the depths along your journey. And always make sure to look after your motor and batteries, to ensure many successful fishing trips!
