25.01.2022 This morning I received some more lovely feedback on my electrical stimulation course. If youd like to see more about the course here is the link: https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au//electrical-stimula

25.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day! Digging back into the archives for this one, which is timely as I am pulling together my vaginal weights course which has grown from its original short talk in the UK in 2018 to what will soon be an online course. What does Cochrane say?

25.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: Nice big belly breaths help to relax the pelvic floor. This technique can be really helpful when working on down-training a tight, painful pelvic floor

25.01.2022 Keep an eye out for the launch of this. I am honoured to work with Jen and she is doing great things with ladies going through breast cancer treatment.

23.01.2022 Introducing my beautiful staff at Pelvic Floor Exercise. @_em_palmer_ has worked with us for years and was our first employee, she also used to manage my physio practices! @wasapam3 has been with us for several years now but she and I go back to kindy days with two of our kids! @mmadidas is my youngest daughter, who works part time for us whilst completing her psychology degree. I know I am biased being her mum but I think she is gorgeous, smart and sassy We are li...ke a little family at PFE HQ If you contact the office it is likely one of these lovely ladies will look after you. We went out for high tea on Saturday as a thank you to them for working so tirelessly throughout this whole s*#t show that has been COVID, they always have a smile and have all gone the extra mile for us and for you. We decided this was #girlsonly #noboysallowed so we sent Craig off to Bunnings... every man’s favourite place Do you love where you work and love your staff?

23.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: Pelvic floor muscles are skeletal muscle just like your biceps and quads and, just like them, will strengthen due to loads placed on them. Our pelvic floor needs to cope with the daily demands placed on it - and that will be different for every person. It is not just about doing pelvic floor exercises or kegels. Research is starting to point in the direction of loading these muscles for recovery too! You can have you own set of Pelvic Floor Tip cards from here : https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au//pelvic%20floor%20e

23.01.2022 Is it time that Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day returned? The original and best? Watch this space! Is it time that Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day returned? The original and best? Watch this space!

23.01.2022 An unexpected but much appreciated gift arrived today from the lovely ladies in the CPNWA (Continence Physiotherapists Network Western Australia) as a thank you gift for my recent talk / discussion with them via their virtual meeting. It was an absolute pleasure to be invited and if COVID has taught us one thing it is that we can make far more use of technology to connect professionally. I was able to join in even though I am 4,500km away and in a different time zone. (Yes A...ustralia really is that big!) Thank you Fiona D for inviting me and for my gift

22.01.2022 Merry Christmas! Thank you for supporting us this year in whichever way you have. Whether it was sharing a post, telling a friend to get their pelvic floor health checked, buying a product or attending a course, thank you for being here with us and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2021 xx

22.01.2022 New blog post to help you navigate how to use whatever product you have https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au//picture-worth-thou

22.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: Both men and women who are afraid of leaking often end up going to the loo too frequently as a "just in case " measure thinking that if they keep their bladder empty, it is less likely to leak....but in fact that leads to urinary frequency. Pelvic floor muscle training can help, along with bladder training once you have been medically cleared for anything that may need medical management first. If you would like to have your own tips at hand, you can buy a set of Pelvic Floor tips here: https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au//pelvic%20floor%20e

21.01.2022 Early bird still open for our upcoming CFA Conference. I am honoured to be one of the invited speakers. A great line up!

21.01.2022 To me, this systematic literature review also highlights the need to trial first line conservative measures before medications and invasive treatments for OAB. TENS is simple, easy and cheap and we have the evidence that it works, especially when combined with first line behavioural therapy. Save medication and invasive techniques for refractory cases, currently TENS ( as TTNS) is saved for refractory cases despite the growing evidence it should be used first line Open access in the latest Neurourology and Urodynamics. Conclusion of systematic review of the literature : "Anticholinergic use for 3 months increased the risk of dementia on average by an estimated 46% versus nonuse" https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/nau.24536

20.01.2022 I am often asked which is the best vaginal weight for me / my patient? The main thing to consider is your vaginal width - if the ball or weight is too narrow it wont stay in.....if it is too wide, it wont fit in in the first place. There is a short guide on this link on how to measure yourself (but the best guide is to see a pelvic floor physio) and then you can open up the comparison chart to see them all compared by width, length and weight. There is a whole course comi...ng soon on vaginal weights for the health professionals out there. This chart is one of the resources that will be included. Download link to chart here https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au//vaginal-weight-com

18.01.2022 For health professionals and patients, I can highly recommend any talk that Dr Sandy Hilton presents. She is a highly respected clinician in the pelvic pain field. There is a patient discount plus it is being recorded so, if like me, you will be asleep in another time zone when the talk is live, you will be sent the recording if you’ve registered.

18.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: The pelvic floor is an integral part of the core. Your diaphragm, pelvic floor and abdominals need to work together in tune with each other.

18.01.2022 Coming soon! Wiesner penile clamps!Coming soon! Wiesner penile clamps!

17.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: The pelvic floor does not work in isolation. It works with the diaphragm and abdominals .. in fact it also works with all of the pelvic girdle muscles. When retraining though, you sometimes need to start with isolated contractions before working on functional (all working together in everyday activities) movement.

17.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: The pelvic floor is NOT just the PC (pubococcygeus) muscle as you so often see described. It is also not just muscles, it has layers of fascial (elastic) tissue and ligaments that all blend together to form the pelvic floor that fills in the area from the pubic bone to tailbone and out to the "sit" bones. They also all work together to perform the functions of the pelvic floor. Did you know you can buy your own set of Pelvic Floor Exerc...ise Tip of the Day cards, in a stand, as a daily reminder? https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au//pelvic%20floor%20e See more

17.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: There is more to the pelvic floor than just muscles ... and yes there are many muscles, the pelvic floor itself is not just one muscle! Did you know you can buy your own set of these pelvic floor tips? Great reminders for home, office or clinic! https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au//pelvic%20floor%20e

17.01.2022 Working on some new blogs today and re-read this one from the archives which I think is one of my favourites. I still have this book on my shelf. Pelvic Floor Exercises, how far have we really come and the importance of native dances .....enjoy! https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au//pelvic-floor-exerc

16.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: It can help to EXhale as you EXert when retraining the co-ordination between the pelvic floor and the diaphragm. So many times in clinic when examining ladies, we see big inhale hold and then try to squeeze - NOT the right strategy and not the way they work together.

15.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: Working on good technique is key when training your pelvic floor. Then the key is to begin co-ordination and functional activity as it was never designed to work alone.

15.01.2022 Great info as always from the fabulous Michelle Lyons Do you know the gynae cancers and the signs to look for? This is one post that could quite literally save.your.life

14.01.2022 Thanks to the advocacy work and passion of colleagues, ABTA and our national association the APA Fiona Martin, MP has made this speech in Canberra today, pushing for better postnatal care for Australian women via access to womens health physiotherapists with experience in this area. 1 in 3 women experience a physical birth trauma that can affect them for life. They need our help and this needs to be available to all women, not just those who can afford private access. Thank you to Catherine Willis Lyz Evans Kimberley Smith, Amy Dawes from ABTA, and our APA Policy team Dan Miles and Mirjana Jovetic. Share the heck out of this Australian followers!

Fiona

13.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: It's a new year and that usually means you feel you have to make some New Year Resolutions Often that involves 'getting fit' or 'losing weight'... Nothing wrong with either of those goals but : you can't go from 0-90 in one go Sometimes when you start running, you also start leaking Research tells us that leaking during exercise is one of the main reasons women in particular stop exercising, and when you stop exercising you tend to put on weight and lose muscle strength BUT! guess what? these are leading causes of Urinary Incontinence in women, and the cycle continues SO- see a pelvic floor Physio who can guide you safely back into exercise and set you up with a pessary if needed and if you only leak a little bit or only with exercise, an interim measure can be a Contiform urethral support. You should still get your pelvic floor sorted but Contiform can help keep you dry Buy Contiform here https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au///bladder%20control

07.01.2022 Thank you Elaine Miller for all your advocacy work. Yes pads can be necessary, even life changing for some but treating the reasons behind the need is so important- for many women and men pads need only be a bridge to the other side but many don’t know that bridge ( pelvic floor rehab) exists. Let’s change that!

05.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: The pelvic floor should respond to changes of pressure in the abdomen. Increased pressure with cough, sneeze etc can make you leak - that is why the pelvic floor should contract just prior to this to help prevent leakage. You may need to train yourself to do this again. Tighten hold cough Tighten hold sneeze

05.01.2022 RATE has been developed by RANZCOG as a tool to help with diagnosis of your endometriosis. 03.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: One of the jobs of the pelvic floor is to support the pelvic organs. Bladder uterus and rectum for females and the bladder and rectum for males (and the testicles from the other side) it is aided in this job by the fascia or elastic tissue. Did you know you can buy your own set of my pelvic floor tips? A great reminder for the home, office or clinic! https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au//pelvic%20floor%20e

02.01.2022 It was a great honour last night to be an invited speaker at the @auscontinence national conference #NCOI2020 My topic was Conservative Neuromodulation Management of SUI and OAB Quite a different experience presenting via pre-recorded talks but also nice to do a short live Q&A on the night. Thanks to the scientific committee for the opportunity to talk on one of my favourite topics!
