23.01.2022 Hi, Kirsty here from PPFA, I am reaching out as I really need your help. Here at PPFA, we are working hard to get our PPEP Talk Schools Program up and running throughout Australia, after a successful first year in SA and a great start in WA. Our biggest challenge is funding (of course). This wonderful program, aimed at bringing the latest in modern knowledge and the new neuroscience of pain to Australian teens, is part supported by our shop profits & donations, in addition t...o the funding received through Federal and State Government grants. Now, obtaining Government grants is a whole different story for another day, but I do want to talk to you about our shop & donations as that’s where you can help us. We are keen to understand what you care about when it comes to purchasing from our shop and donating to our organisation, and for that reason, we have put together a survey that we would like to ask you to complete. We will use the information that you give us to make informed decisions on how we can improve your experience with us that hopefully will result in more donations and shop purchases! We would be so grateful for your help, the survey is anonymous and takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. Should you be OK to leave your name and contact details, we can add you to the draw to win $100 to spend in the PPFA shop as a thank you for participating! We will, of course, be sure to keep you in the loop on the progress we are making, not only with upgrading your experience with us but also with the school program. A big thank you in advance from us here at PPFA, but also from all teens who will greatly benefit from the PPEP Talk Schools Program. All survey data will be destroyed once the analysis is completed. If you have any questions on the survey, please contact Faye on (08) 8291 7923 The draw will take place on January 18th, 2021 We wish you all a much improved 2021. From Kirsty and the PPFA team of Educators

22.01.2022 Women mount a stronger immune response to viral and bacterial infections than men. This provides a survival advantage during a pandemic, so they are less likely to die of infection. However, women pay a high price: a higher lifetime risk of immune conditions such as chronic pain, chronic fatigue and autoimmune diseases. These conditions are associated with excessive activation of immune cells within the central nervous system. Those women with pre-existing conditions, includi...ng chronic gynaecological pain, fatigue, poor sleep or mood disorder have an altered, but not weakened immune system. They are anticipated to risk Covid-induced aggravation of their pre-existing symptoms, or an increased risk of Long Covid Syndrome if they become infected with Covid-19. In addition, the risk of thromboembolic disease associated with Covid-19 infection may prevent them using their normal hormonal medications. Women make up 67% of the global healthcare workforce in their roles as doctors, nurses, teachers, child-care workers, aged-care workers, and cleaners, and our community relies on their wellbeing. The vaccine is relatively new, and we don’t know everything about it yet. That’s true. However, the potential for Covid infection to worsen pre-existing symptoms in women with endo and pain, even if the actual infection was mild, is real. A clinic in Paris reported that their patients with prolonged fatigue, muscle pains and anxiety symptoms after Covid-19 infection had an average age of 40 years, and that 4 women were affected for every 1 man. I strongly recommend that women with endo and pain have the vaccine to protect them from Covid-19 infection, and the risk of Long Covid Syndrome. 21.01.2022 Endometriosis is the most common benign gynaecological condition worldwide, which is frequently mis-diagnosed, dismissed and under-recognised. This course will prepare and empower students with the knowledge and essential attributes to be an advocate for all woman experiencing chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis. The Australian College of Nursing has launched a single unit Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain study; the first of its kind in Australia. The purpose of this unit of s...tudy is to provide the student with the necessary theoretical knowledge to improve how they assess and manage endometriosis and pelvic pain in the clinical setting. This is achieved by exploring endometriosis pathophysiology, pain physiology, and contemporary, evidence-based treatment and management within various clinical settings. A holistic, individual, person centred approach is core to this subject. If you are interested in this study, please visit the Australian College of Nursing website for more course and enrolment details. https://www.acn.edu.au//single-/endometriosis-pelvic-pain

16.01.2022 We are pleased to be recipients of funding following today’s announcement from Minister Greg Hunt of a $354 million spend to support the health and wellbeing of Australia’s women. For women with Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis, this is a great day. 1 in 5 girls miss school due to period pain. 1 in 9 women will develop endometriosis, and, 1 in 30 teens have pelvic pain every day... Australian women with endometriosis identified school’s education as a top 3 priority when the bipartisan National Action Plan for Endometriosis was developed - and the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia is delivering on that priority. This grant allows the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia to deliver PPEP Talk to any Australian state that chooses to match funding and take up this opportunity for their young people. Thank you to Minister Hunt, the Honourable Nicolle Flint MP , the Honourable Lisa Chesters MP, Members of the Parliamentary Friends of Endometriosis Group, the State Governments of SA and WA, and the countless women who have made PPEP-Talk for Australian students a reality. 16.01.2022 With so much interest around our Covid-19 post, we thought some of you might enjoy reading some of the background to our post. We’ve drawn together a range of references that look at the differences in the immune system between men and women, what’s known about the basis for chronic fatigue, experience from previous coronavirus epidemics, the role of glial cells in immune-related pain, and the role of Toll-Like Receptors. 15.01.2022 24 Strands of Living Well with Pain. It may be overwhelming to look at all these factors and consider how to implement them into your life. Take a deep breath, and take it slow. You can start by aiming to tick one off per week, and gradually work towards carrying out all 24. Each management approach might only improve pain by 10%.. But if you do several of them, it will all add up to a worthwhile progress. ... Save this post and share it with your friends. Where are you starting? https://www.instagram.com/p/COetbUyDYdV/

By taking 2-3 months to prepare yours...elf and your body, you set yourself up best for a more comfortable hospital experience and a better laparoscopy outcome. 01.01.2022 We are very thankful for the support from the Federal Government, the SA Government and WA Government.
