25.01.2022 Principal’s Update Week 5 of Term 2 We have made the most of the sunshine this week at PDHS. Our K/PP students farewelled Mrs Turner most appropriately; by drawing her along in a fabulous chariot through her kingdom. You can see in the photos how much she loved their efforts! Our youngest students have also delighted in welcoming Mrs Dowson and Mrs Milburn to their class this week....Continue reading

23.01.2022 NAIDOC Week celebrations are held around the country to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Today we began our NAIDOC celebrations with an Acknowledgement of Country and students participated in puppet art at lunch time.

23.01.2022 Principal’s Update for Week 7 of Term 4 Congratulations to the Year 6 class and Mr Brooks on their performance at the assembly this morning. It was a very entertaining item. Thank you to Tammy from Colour Me Face and Body Art for giving up her time to create the wonderful face art! In Geography, the Kindy and Pre-Primary class have been exploring Aboriginal culture by creating indigenous art inspired drawings and identifying indigenous animals with a variety of picture-word c...ard games. The class are also getting particularly good at singing head-shoulders-knees-and-toes in Noongar which they have been learning this term. The year 10 students have completed the Keys for Life program this year. Students will be able to use their certificates to receive their learners permit. We wish the students all the best with getting their drivers licence. In Science, the Year 6s have been carrying out investigations on effects of plant health looking at how plants are watered and salinity. They have diligently carried out tests on the plants over a number of weeks, taking careful measurement along the way. The Year 7s have learnt about forces and how to make structures stable, including a challenge of creating the tallest tower. This knowledge will now be put together with some creative thinking to develop their very own toy that works using forces. Year 8/9 students are refining their Science inquiry skills through investigating different product brands. The food tasting exploration was very popular, with no problem locating volunteers. Students are now testing products including hand soap, chalk, sticky tape, tennis balls and paper towel using a wide range of tests that they have created. Tonight we look forward to the Blue Light Disco organised by the local Police and P&C and next week is our Community Week, Emergency Services Week and Work Experience. Have a most wonderful weekend, Sarah

22.01.2022 SCHOOL ASSEMBLY ON TOMORROW YEAR 6 HOSTING 8.50AM

21.01.2022 Principal’s Update for Week 4 of Term 4 Today we celebrated Book Week by dressing up as our favourite book characters and participating in a whole school parade. Thank you to parents and carers for your support in preparing the costumes and for watching the parade on the day. This week the Year 1/2 students have been focusing on challenging themselves, particularly in Maths where they have been making connections between money and multiplication to determine how much money ...they have. In English they are exploring procedural texts and they read Wombat Stew to inspire us. In Science they are investigating how they can change everyday items. In Kitchen Garden this week, the Year 2 and 4 students cooked a warm sweet and sour Warrigal Green salad. Warrigal greens grow in our kitchen garden and is found naturally in New Zealand and Australian bush. Students learnt and used bush herbs such as river mint and flavours from the tomato bush to season their salad. In Art, the Year 6 students have been exploring their use of line and complimentary colours by creating their own interpretation of Vincent van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’. On Thursday, Josh Langley, author from Donnybrook who wrote, Being You Is Enough, Magnificent Mistakes and Fabulous Failures and Its Ok to Feel the Way You Do visited the Primary Students. He taught the students to value themselves and to be resilient by having a go. The students loved his entertaining stories and hearing about his journey to becoming an author. Our Year 9 & 10 students have begun preparations for their Workplace Learning program which will occur later this term. They have started to complete the Work Readiness Package which involves completing a work safety certificate, development of a Resume, as well as undergoing a Work Readiness interview. They were lucky to have Mary Anne Tierney, the Workplace Learning Coordinator at Manjimup Senior High School visit our school to work with the students for the morning on these requirements and answer any questions they had. Completion of the Workplace Learning program gives our students a head start on Year 11 and 12 by providing points towards their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). Next week the Year 10 students commence exams; and as a school and a nation, we will recognise and celebrate NAIDOC week, with the theme this year being Always Was, Always Will Be. Enjoy your weekend. Sarah

Looking back at this week, on Tuesday the Food Technology students created an absolute feast! Previously, they had designed recipes within the ‘Asian foods’ category, and on Tuesday they created their dishes. They shared sticky salmon noodles, laksa, caramel chicken rice and fried ice-cream. The students are working on perfecting their timing to ensure all components are ready at the same time. In Art, Ms. Hannaford was very excited to demonstrate the screen printing process which would allow the student’s repeating pattern designs to come to life. Some students have lasercut their patterns onto thick paper and adhered them to the silk screen, before using a squeegee to push the paint through the screen to create the design on to paper. They’ll continue to perfect their methods over the next few weeks before they finalise their finished artwork. Next Friday we look forward to our whole school assembly hosted by the Year 6 class and the Blue Light Disco run by the local police and our P&C which will be after school (more details to come). Have a lovely weekend Sarah

11.01.2022 Principal’s Update Week 4 of Term 2 Just like that, Week 4 is done and dusted at PDHS. Firstly, we wish Mrs Turner (otherwise known as Miss Tammy) a wonderful break when she commences her Long Service Leave on Monday. She will absolutely be missed, but we know she will have a fantastic time chasing the sunshine (and her children!). We are delighted to welcome back Mrs Dowson, who will take our K/PP class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We are also excited to welcome Mr...Continue reading

09.01.2022 EERIE EEL OR WORK OF ART? Students from Pemberton District High School have been studying an unusual creature this year. Lamprey's are prehistoric, "blood sucki...ng" jawless fish species that latch onto other fish and suck their blood or flesh for food. With looks only a mother can love, students and local artist Sharon Hinchliffe transformed them into a work of art and painted a mural at Pemberton's Lefroy Brook Weir.

08.01.2022 Principal’s Update Week 6 of Term 2 Just like that, we are over the halfway point of Term 2! As part of their Health program this week, the Pre-Primary students were lucky enough to be invited to watch a series of short plays developed and performed by Mrs Brooks’ Year 3/4 Drama class. The plays were based on the theme of Bullying and explored ways of dealing with, and reducing this behaviour. As well as the very serious side to this issue, it seems like a lot of fun was ...Continue reading

06.01.2022 Principal's Update Week 5 of Term 4 This week we celebrated and recognised NAIDOC week. Students participated in a range of experiences from puppet making, hand print painting, dancing, eating kangaroo sausages and throwing of boomerangs. Well done to all students who eagerly participated and thank you to the staff who organised and assisted throughout the week. The Year 6 class have farewelled Miss Madeley who was completing her second year practicum. We wish her all the ...best for the future. Year 9 and Year 10 students commenced their exams, with a final exam to be completed next week. These students are to be commended for the way they have applied themselves throughout the exams. Next week we look forward to students demonstrating the school values of being respectful, resilient and challenging themselves at the Interschool Athletics Carnival here at PDHS. Other upcoming events include the Blue Light Disco on Friday 27th November (time tbc) and the Colour Run on 4th December. Enjoy the weekend Sarah https://www.facebook.com/koomaldreaming/

05.01.2022 YEAR 6 CAMP Our Year 6 students had a fun-filled time in Perth last week for their Year 6 Camp. They enjoyed a jam-packed schedule of learning and adventure, including ice-skating, a tour of Parliament House, a workshop at SciTech, a visit to Penguin Island, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking, rock climbing and a Quiz Night. Our students conducted themselves most admirably throughout the camp, representing our school responsibly and showing great respect for themselves and others. A very big thankyou to Mrs Schmidt, Mr Hughes and Mrs Kelly, without whom the camp would not have been possible.

04.01.2022 Principal’s Update for Week 9 of Term 4 What an eventful week we have had! This week the Year 9 and 10 students painted a mural depicting the lifecycle of lamprey in the Lefroy Brook. This project was the accumulation of studying the lamprey with the help of Murdoch University, a field excursion to the lamprey ladder at the weir, and a workshop designing the mural with artist Sharon Hinchliffe. I encourage you to check out the painting at the Pump Hill Road Water Treatment Pl...ant. Our year 6s celebrated their primary years with a graduation dinner mid-week. It was lovely to hear them all reflect on their memorable moments over the years. This morning students transitioned ready for 2021. The highlight for the Pre-Primary students was playing in the big kids playground and the current year 6s enjoyed using a variety of technology in their learning. This afternoon the Year 9 students served the Senior Citizens whilst the Year 3/4s performed "Count On Me" at the annual Senior Citizens' Luncheon. I'd like to thank the Pemberton Sports Club, Alice's Kitchen, PDHS P & C, St Joseph's P & F and the rest of our school community for a successful day. Upcoming next week we have Year 10 Graduation, Presentation Night on Wednesday night, and students’ last day for 2020 on Thursday 17th December. Enjoy your weekend Sarah
