17.02.2022 Lex (Year 11) had a longer journey than most to get back to school this year! As a result of the recent wet weather in the state's far north, Lex's would-be road to school, the Birdsville Track, is closed. Instead, Lex took a helicopter and two plane trips to make his way 900km south to our Boarding House! We are so excited to welcome back Lex and our boarders who have made the journey back to Adelaide to be part of our community thus far, and we look forward to welcoming all boarders back over the coming week for the recommencement of full classroom learning.

08.02.2022 Happy Lunar New Year! The Pembroke community is spread far and wide, and we are excited to celebrate the Lunar New Year Year of the Water Tiger with each and every one of you around the globe. One of our boarding students, Roy (Year 10), joins us in wishing you a happy Lunar New Year in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. The Tiger represents bravery, courage and strength according to the Chinese zodiac. Comment below if you were born in a Tiger year!

01.02.2022 Welcome back to Pembroke for 2022! Today we welcomed our littlest learners and our Years 7, 8 and 12 students to campus for face-to-face learning and all other students returned to school online in Pembroke's E-Program. On campus, we enjoyed a beautiful day filled with plenty of outdoor activities. Our new students took tours of their campuses, our ELC students were entirely puffed out (and chuffed) by the end of a big first day, and our Year 12 students prepared themselves ...for their final year at Pembroke. Students in our E-Program had a busy day that included a wide variety of orientation and learning experiences, and everyone enjoyed seeing each other in the virtual classroom. We're so looking forward to the year ahead!

24.01.2022 Flashing back to Formal!

24.01.2022 We’d like to say a big thank you to the staff, parents, coaches, volunteers, and supporters who made Interschol such a successful week. In true Pembroke spirit, our community came together to contribute to an excellent week of sportsmanship, camaraderie and teamwork. Thank you! Thank you to Peter McRostie Photography for this additional gallery of great photos.

24.01.2022 Earlier this term our Year 12 Outdoor Education students completed their Self Reliant trip, where they spent four days hiking in Mt Remarkable National Park. The trip was an opportunity for the students to apply all the skills they’ve developed, including navigation, leadership, planning, packing, and resilience. Our students loved the chance to connect with nature and work as a united group, as the students walked independently with staff shadowing a few kilometres behind.

08.01.2022 Did you know that Pembroke has a Chinese Orchestra? We hope you enjoy this performance featuring beautiful Chinese traditional instruments: the Guzheng, Pipa and Erhu. Thank you to Mr Lester Wong, Strings Coordinator, and student musicians Naomi, Sasha, Isabella and Moon.

08.01.2022 Our Year 10 camps were temporarily put on hold due to COVID-19 but thankfully we were able to resume them during Term 3, with Reeves, Medlin, and Hill houses going to the Coorong National Park and the school’s Old Watulunga property on the Finniss River. The students explored by kayak and sail boat, exploring Lake Alexandrina and the surrounding waterways, and making it across to Younghusband Peninsula to visit the dunes. Our students were excited to get outdoors again, and displayed excellent teamwork and leadership skills, learning about Ngarrindjeri culture, the environment and sustainable practices.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to our Year 6s as they complete their Junior School years and move up to the Middle School! Head of the Junior School, Mr Carl Salt, asked them: What ideas matter? The ideas that matter to you right now, or in the future?" In answering, he quoted American writer and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson: "What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us." ... The rest of the Junior School surprised the Year 6s with a guard of honour as they walked to their Graduation Ceremony in the Middle School across glorious Kensington Oval.

07.01.2022 The Chair and Deputy Chair of the Pembroke School Board announced today that Mr Luke Thomson has chosen to retire from Pembroke School in 12 months from now at the end of Term 2, 2022. Luke’s outstanding service in education spans some 34 years, including his leadership as Chair of the Heads Council for the International Baccalaureate Organisation and as President of the Association of Independent Schools South Australia (AISSA), his ex officio membership of the International... Baccalaureate Organisation Board, and, of course, his exceptional contribution as the Principal of Pembroke School since 2010. A measure of Luke’s exceptional contribution can be seen in reflections of past Pembroke students: His unique way of viewing the school as an accumulation of perspectives, deriving not only cooperation but value in diversity, is felt in the genuine openness he brings to every conversation Emma Tam (2019) Luke Thomson champions the achievements of Pembroke students. He empowers young people to pursue their passions wherever they may lie Nicholas Duddy (2012) His years of experience working in education meant that he was a fantastic resource of ‘tips and tricks’ on how to go about initiating positive change Tess Ballard (2015). Luke has promoted a dynamic learning community for students as well as for teaching and non-teaching staff. Under his leadership Pembroke has continued its growth into a confident school that is true to its Aims, because Luke has embraced and exemplified those Aims himself. This strength has been enhanced by Luke’s active engagement with Pembroke’s community, and securing support for and delivery of key strategic developments. Some of the more significant achievements that Luke has conceptualised and steered the School to deliver are the Shipsters Road Project, our Social, Emotional and Personal Development Program, the strengthening of our student pastoral care program, our staff development program and Pembroke Academy. Always, Luke has challenged us as a School community to think, to explore, and to love learning. Whilst Luke will continue to serve as Principal for a further year, succession planning has commenced and is a critical responsibility of the School Board. We are confident that an exceptional candidate will be appointed to commence in mid-2022 to build upon the legacy of Luke and earlier principals. We will communicate with the Pembroke community again at the end of 2021 to announce this appointment. We are certain that the transition to a new principal will be well managed and supported by our experienced Deputy Principal and Business Director and our senior management team together with the whole school staff. There will be many opportunities to thank and farewell Luke and his family in 2022. We look forward to honouring and celebrating Luke’s significant contribution to Pembroke School at that time.

05.01.2022 Our Pembroke Equestrian Team riders performed exceptionally well at the 2020 SA Show Jumping State Championships, with many of our riders placing in the respective events. The highlight of the weekend was the Thompson and Redwood Junior Series, in which Pembroke riders took out all five placings. Well done!

04.01.2022 The Year 5 Musical at Pembroke is a much-anticipated event, every year, involving all Year 5 students who get to experience the thrill of planning, rehearsing and performing a live production. This year, each of our three Year 5 classes experienced a special Performance Day of the musical of Annie Jr which engaged students in costuming, make-up and final refinements to their performances; followed by a matinee show for their buddy class and culminating in an evening performance for their families. Our dedicated team of technical, teaching and Performing Arts staff supported students to achieve their personal best. Well done, Year 5! Photo credit: Event Photography

04.01.2022 Our Middle School Art Exhibition opened last week and, as ever, we were amazed by the artistic talents of our Year 7 to 10 students. Installed in its new home in our Shipsters Road building and with music performed by Middle and Senior School musicians, this annual Exhibition is one of the highlights of the Pembroke calendar each year. 04.01.2022 The 2020 Cricket Interschol between Pembroke and Westminster was a hard-fought affair and an excellent display of 4-day cricket. After playing day 1 under the hot summer sun the next 3-days had everything, including plenty of wind and patches of rain. Having won the toss and elected to bat, Westminster posted a formidable score of 330. In reply Theo (Year 10) and Ed (Year 12) combined for one of the great 10th wicket partnerships, displaying rugged determination, persistence,... and stubbornness, batting together for 60 overs, putting on 80 runs to take our total to 205. In the second innings Westminster added 206 runs to their total, setting us a target of 332 for victory. Wil (Year 12) was the pick of the bowlers in the second innings, capturing five wickets. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, Westminster completing the victory late on day 4. In the end it was an entertaining and engrossing game of cricket and we look forward to bouncing back in next year’s Interschol, back home at Kensington Oval.

04.01.2022 Last Friday two of our students, Izzy and Emily, competed in the SA Short Course Swimming Championships. 04.01.2022 With the final graduation and award ceremonies completed, the school grounds strangely quiet without students, and goodbyes said that’s a wrap for 2020 at Pembroke! It’s been a memorable year and one in which we have really lived our motto: Ex Unitate Vires (Out of Unity, Strength). Congratulations and farewell to the following staff who are leaving Pembroke after longstanding service: Ms Alison Bell, Ms Lesley Doughty, Mr Don Fogg (pictured), Mr Simon Grubb (pictured), Mr... Tony Hill, Ms Annie Nancarrow, and Mr Julian Trudinger. And while it’s been ups and downs this year, old scholar Eddie Sims (2018) articulated what many of us have felt about this unpredictable, but rewarding year we’ve had in 2020: "The confidence to undertake new challenges by making another plan, by finding another way I attribute to my experience at Pembroke." Wishing everyone in the Pembroke community a happy, relaxing and safe festive season. See you in 2021.
