24.01.2022 Gohd. Another C-Virus related post. Whilst the risk of contracting this dickhead of a virus is LOW, the next few months will be an interesting time and we all need to do our bit. We ask everyone coming to the studio:... 1. Please reconsider your jam if you are feeling crook. Please! 2. Make sure youre band mates are healthy before committing to a session. Please! 3. Wash your hands and use the hand sanitiser we have provided. Please! Your next jam is not more important than your own health and of those around you. Pen Cap Chew is committed to doing our part over the next few months too: 1. All microphones, cables and mixers will be cleaned and sanitised. Everyday. Same goes with the kitchen, chairs, door handles etc. 2. Hand sanitiser will soon appear in every room. 3. Cancellation policy will be...cancelled...until further notice. We would rather you cancel than chance it. Please note that this policy still stands for no-shows. Stay safe, keep it real and look after each other. We are all in this together. 22.01.2022 Check out this excellent little live sess recorded at Pen Cap Chew by PCC stalwarts Incomplete. This band is by far one of, if not THE tightest bands in Perth. Period. And they probably play twice as fast as most other bands. Shout out sound engineer / producer Jordan Azor who captured this performance. 20.01.2022 2020 has meant a few changes for the way we live; yet, like the big ball of gas in the air, some things don't change. A bit like the hard working folk at WAM who continue to turn the wheels to promote and celebrate the diversity, depth and talent of the West Oz music scene. We're stoked to present the POP category this year with a total prize pool of $800 worth of PCC sessions being awarded to the top three. France and I would have liked to have dusted off matching red velve...t jacket combos to present this in person but alas, perhaps next year. Two days to go!

One of PCC favourites, all round good guy and front man of Fremantle band Claybird, Del B, is working with remote aboriginal communities to address mental health issues through music and will feature of the 730 Report tonight. ... 12.01.2022 Good evening / morning all! So I have come to the following conclusion:: If the wealth of talent coming through Pen Cap Chew is any indication of how well its going after 10 months, I reckon were doing fkn brilliantly.... From the Koi Child lads representin at SXSW and receiving an ARIA award nomination, to Pond playing at Coachella (!), to bands like POW!Negro, Hideous Sun Demon, Hunting Birds, Elli Schoen and Dream Rimmy playing huge festival stages like Southbound, GTM, Falls Festival and Laneway, to a multitude of bands doing national and international tours or releasing music to sold-out crowds, to a whole heap of PCC bands getting nominated for a whole heap of WAM awardsand thats really only scratching the surface. But to be perfectly honest, the achievements of these PCC bands dont get me half as stoked as witnessing the effort that goes into their craft behind closed doors. I get stoked on the bands, irrespective of who they are or whether they play to the bar staff, that have developed their own style over the weeks and months in the studios, the bands who sound tighter and tighter every jam or those who have been crafting a unique sound that they will be one day renowned for; the bands that will one day be all over RTR, ZZZ and Triple J, playing the massive festivals and headlining their own interstate and international tours. That gets me boyband hot under the collar. Honestly France and I are just stoked to witness it. Enough of that teary-eyed sheeeet, Im an absolute mess. In other news, me mate Rhi will continue to be at the helm for a couple more weeks. Annnnnnnnd t-shirts are coming, BIGGER rooms are being planned as well as a Pen Cap Chew Presents.gig. 11.01.2022 Festival of the Chew. MASSIVE. Holey dooley - what an awesome night. Big up's to all the PCC bands that played the show - Hideous Sun Demon, Peter Bibby, Elli Shoen, Moana, Dan Howls, Fuzz Toads, Last Quokka, Moonlighter, Wave Wasabi, Montana Wildhack, Incomplete, transista and Lo Fire. Honestly, so stoked - every one of these acts were epic. A particular mention to a couple of artists that played their first shows (!) - Angie Colman and HOT SAND. Without doubt, their respect...ive trajectories are galactic. I've already been asked about the next one...Ku Ku Ka Chew? In short, yes its coming. But first!..we're cooking something else up...more to come.

With less than 5% of the room having any parallel surfaces to engineered acoustic wall treatments, dual walls and doors, the latest PA from Allen & Heath and EV, Persian rugs and foldback as standard, were catering for the bands that want a professional and affordable place to write, rehearse and record.... I will be sharing experiences of my own mental health journey that inevitably led to the creation of the Pen Cap Chew and the power of community in helping people with their own mental health challenges. There will be restrictions on the number people allowed in each of the rooms to ensure social distancing (so, no you cant have 8 people in a small room). All surfaces are sanitised daily including mics, stands, mixers and speakers and weve used the time to have all the rooms drycleaned and aircon serviced and cleaned.... ...but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider the health and well-being of everyone around you - if youre feeling even remotely crook, please reconsider you jam.
