17.01.2022 When grieving a loss it's completely normal to feel alone and even unsupported. Trying to be superwoman or superman every day is just too much for anyone. Although it may not feel like it at times, there are people surrounding you that actually want to help, the big issue is they often don't know how. This is where you need come in... is it a grocery shop, is it a home-cooked meal, a hug or a listening ear, a trip down memory lane or a day out filled with distraction...? Sometimes you don't even know so it's hard to expect them too. So when you do know, you need to tell them... how, where and when to support you. Yes, it can be difficult to ask for help but vulnerability is not a weakness and it will open you up to receive the love you need. I'd like to thank the thirty-seven Australian law enforcement officers that have been reported feloniously killed in 2020, the officers who have sacrificed their lives in previous years and my heart goes out to their surviving loved ones. These are ordinary people who face extraordinary circumstances and act with courage, honour and self-sacrifice to create a safer community.

01.01.2022 I updated my will last month. Who knew... what felt like a confronting discussion would have so many benefits. It made me feel helpful, like I would be taking away hard decisions for my surviving family members during their time of grief. I feel responsible and at peace with decisions about outliving my dependent. ... It makes me feel good knowing there is someone who knows my final wishes. I told my family about my organ donation wishes. I found out a bit more about my family's wishes and paved a way for more open discussions. It also made me reevaluate my concept of time on earth and let go of some negative emotions I don't need to carry around with me. It made me realign my values and put more effort into my own happiness. It gave me a sense of control. It got off my list of important things to do and freed up space for a lighter heart. A Will is for you, not just to benefit your family!
