With most clients, I only get to hear snippets of your story... but thats the best part of this job!!! Far more interesting than the art part!!! I love when you share. 23.01.2022 I was asked to create a very special portrait for this young mans birthday last month This is another Pencil Head mash-up from separate photos! I went about sketching the one with her arms around him (using my own body & hands as the reference to position them together) and they loved it so much, they ordered him another one using the other supplied photos There is no bigger compliment! 20.01.2022 Two big commissions completed over the last few weeks. These take a lot of energy - I put absolutely everything into them and if I wasnt 100% happy, I wouldnt let them leave my home!!!! These two jobs involved concept, photo shoots and then (finally!) the actual painting part!! Youre looking at my dream come true. P.S. Im dolled up because Im getting nice photos of them for the socials I would love you to share this with friends that might appreciate it, or anyone considering commissioning an original piece. 18.01.2022 Since starting Pencil Head, I’ve attended a corporate Foodbank Christmas Hamper packing event each December, and I also donate something for the auction or raffle. Ann won my prize last year and asked me to sketch her Dad. It was a brilliant reference!! A simple photo that showed his character. I went with a rougher style to suit the subject and included an axe as the cherry on top! Thank you Ann and I’ll see you again in December

17.01.2022 Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold built on the idea that in embracing flaws and imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art. Every break is unique and instead of repairing an item like new, the 400-year-old technique actually highlights the "scars" as a part of the design. Using this as a metaphor for healing ourselves teaches us an important lesson: Sometimes in the process of repairing things that have broken, we actually create something more unique, beautiful and resilient. 11.01.2022 Happy 1st birthday!! This is a great alternative to keeping an annual photo of your kiddies. Black & white charcoal with a colour pencil pop, on toned tan paper. Love these!

10.01.2022 Check out the video too.... its extra close-up!! You may be surprised to hear that small portraits like this are actually harder than larger ones (for me, anyway) At this scale, every single stroke of pencil plays a huge role in the accuracy of the drawing, so I spend a lot of time perfecting each tiny 3cm face! The pencil has to be crazy sharp too! These faces went through a bunch of tiny amendments before I was happy to send to Rachel for the first review.

09.01.2022 Short video to see the faces up close. Each head is only 3cm in size! Sometimes the grain in the paper is enough to completely change a feature! Certainly challenging, but the result is rewarding. Even better when Im told the receiver was moved by his gift Thanks again for looking everyone. Have a great night!

05.01.2022 Six kids from six photos, 85cm wide, charcoal & graphite. Sadly, one of them left this world far too soon Im proud to be able to produce large group portraits from your favourite photos, it has to be one of my biggest challenges - but also the most satisfying. If youve missed some milestones this year, or had your holiday plans shut down (collective sigh), you may like to consider commissioning me for your family portrait - the COVID special, where I can combine loved ones from across the globe Just a thought.....

01.01.2022 Gorgeous Sunday in Brisbane!!! I was given the opportunity to paint another landscape - the view from Burleigh Hill! It was a challenge painting something this small and quite detailed - but as always, loved it.
