19.01.2022 Phew! two years in the making this one was. It was a photo in the Melbourne 'Sun Herald' and I started drawing it two years ago but put it aside as I didn't have the patience to draw all that detail. Dragged it out couple of months ago and finally finished it. It was taken outside St Paul's Cathedral opposite Flinders St station. Ironically the song "Feed the birds' from Mary Poppins was on the steps of St Pauls cathedral London. It reminded me of my first job as a trainee po...st clerk in Melbourne in 1969, working in the city I used to see an old lady like this one feeding birds in the same place, a few years later I read in the papers about a big court case where an old lady who fed the birds outside St Pauls was thought by her three children to be a pauper who lived in a run down old house in Richmond and dressed in rags. They neglected her and didn't visit her in years. Turns out she was worth $4 million dollars and she left it all to the animal hospital. The two daughters and son contested the will but lost. Judge said they might have had a case if they treated their Mother with a bit of decency. Serves em right I say. See more

18.01.2022 A story about horseshit, and I don't mean something similar to bullshit. In Australia the movement of cattle from station to saleyards in the late 19th century, early 20th century often involved many months in the saddle for drovers, (cowboys) riding through some of the world's most inhospitable country to get their herd to rail sidings or town saleyards and many stories and poems have been written about hardships they endured by well known writers and bush poets such as Andr...ew, ((Banjo) Patterson, Henry Lawson, and others. this story is about "shit" One such writer asks, "Do you know how to tell a good drover", "By cattle shit. A good drover will let the cattle stand up for a stretch and a shit before he moves them on. The camp will have lots of nice neat piles of shit." "You can tell a bad drover if there's shit spread for hundreds of yards along the track out of the camp. He's moved them on before they were ready. Cattle are like people, they like to have a bit of a strech and a shit when they get up. Its so they're relaxed. It doesn't matter what a drover looks like on a horse, so long as he looks after the cattle. The flash cowboy hat and chaps, they don't drove cattle, its the man in them" See more

01.01.2022 I got me hat and me sunnies, I got me beach chair, I got me yellow duckie, I got the sand between me toes, and I got a good book to read. This is my idea of a day at the beach. I started this one some years ago but mothballed it till Terry taught me how to shade properly cos I had no idea how I was going to draw a yellow duckie with no distinguishing features other than wheels. Least now it looks like a plastic duckie lol
