25.01.2022 It's National Volunteer Week - an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of Australia's volunteers. With more than 5000 volunteers, TFS is ...Tasmania's largest volunteer organisation, and needless to say volunteers are our lifeblood. All volunteers play an important role in our organisation, through operational response, working behind the scenes to keep stations running, issuing fire permits and community education - as well as our juniors and cadets, social members and those with run the TFS Museum. A huge thank you to our volunteers for the contribution they make to keeping the community safe. #NVW #NationalVolunteerWeek2021 Matt Davis (TFS)

25.01.2022 We had a successful night at training, everyone joining in, coming to grips with the new truck and strengthening team work.

25.01.2022 The Penguin fleet out on display at the Penguin Primary School .

22.01.2022 Today is the feast day of St Florian - the patron saint of firefighters. This day is now widely recognised as International Firefighters' Day. We remember the s...ixteen Tasmanian firefighters who have died while on duty. We also honour the men and women of the Tasmania Fire Service and firefighters past and present around the world who devote their lives to serving others. Please take a moment to thank your local firefighters for all they do to protect the community.

21.01.2022 Well we are finally able to get back in to training and welcome anyone interested in joining the brigade, the next training session will be Wednesday 8th July 7pm.

20.01.2022 It's out with the old and in with the new! the old Dennis ladder truck has been taken out to make way for our (new/ second hand) medium tanker, greatly enhancing our bushfire capability and coincides with the merging of Heybridge brigade into Penguin.

14.01.2022 Winter is almost upon us. The likelihood of accidental house fires increases with people spending more time at home. Some tips to keep you and your family safe:... Install smoke alarms in every bedroom and hallway. Have a home fire escape plan that you practice with your whole family. Dust and test your smoke alarm once a month. Clean your clothes dryer filter after each use and always run it until the end of the cool down cycle. Keep everything two metres from the heater. Have your chimney and flue professionally cleaned annually. Never leave cooking unattended. Turn your electric blanket off when you get into bed. Use your wheat bag according to manufacturer’s instructions and never overheat in the microwave. Stay safe and visit www.fire.tas.gov.au for more information on how to stay fire safe.

12.01.2022 Please be extra careful on the roads with all this rain. there is a lot of water on the coast road between Penguin and Ulverstone.

11.01.2022 Yesterday saw our first bush fire for the season and provides a timely reminder that NOW is the time to get your property prepared for the summer!

10.01.2022 As firefighters and their families enter another long week of battling catastrophic bushfires, exhaustion and frustration is starting to boil over. This week, one woman put her thoughts in a blog post that’s since gone viral - her message aimed squarely at our Prime Minister.

09.01.2022 Week 7 is bushfire week on the recruit course. Given Tassie is the one of the most bushfire environments on earth, the skills taught during this week are some of the most critical of a firefighter’s career. Join James and Nick for last week’s update

07.01.2022 HO! HO! HO! here we go again, before Santa begins his usual gift giving job he will be visiting the streets of Penguin and district to say hello and hand out a few sweets to all the kids, big and small. we will be starting as usual at the east end of town at 5pm on Christmas eve and arriving in Heybridge some time around 7:30 all going well. so please spread the word and come out when you hear the sirens.

06.01.2022 Well here we are again, daylight saving time and another fire season looming! While permits aren’t in place for our area yet it is drying out fast and care should be taken when burning off, (we’ve already had an escaped burn off in Penguin and we suggest considering the weather forecast before lighting a fire. If windy conditions are expected, please don’t! At any time, it’s always a good idea to call TFS on 1800 000 699 to register a burn off. It costs nothing and can preven...t us being called out unnecessarily. When did you last change your smoke alarm battery? We recommend testing them every month and replacing the battery every year. If your smoke alarm is over 10 years old you should get a new one, (they don’t last forever), in which case we recommend getting one of the new ones with a 10 year lithium battery. Also are you bushfire ready? Now is the time to clear away flammable vegetation from around your house, clean the gutters and prepare yourself and your house to survive a bushfire. For more information go to www.fire.tas.gov.au in the list on the left you will find, heaps of information on Home Fire Safety and Bushfire: Prepare Act Survive. Stay safe. See more

05.01.2022 Congratulations and Thankyou to the Penguin community for an incident free holiday period. our thoughts are with our colleagues and those communities who have not been so lucky.

05.01.2022 If overheated or old, your wheat bag can catch fire. Never overheat them, and don’t take them to bed.

03.01.2022 This week the recruits split into two groups, with half in Launceston for urban fire training and the other half in Buckland for bushfire week. The Dans have provided this update from Launie *captions are auto generated

01.01.2022 When you overload power points and power boards, or piggy-back electrical cables, you’re creating a major risk of electrical fires.
