24.01.2022 Penguin pies bring tears to your eyes Are you brave enough to try our local Flaming Penguin Pie? . Dont worry, it doesnt contain any penguins Pen...guin Country Bakehouse owners Geoff and Sonia Stewart started making hot chilli pies in 2014 after Burnie resident Oscar Harding lobbied for them to make something with extra kick. This is Tasmanias hottest pie and attracts people from all over the country who want to test their resolve . The pies come in two levels, with the milder version measured at 750,000 on the Scoville Scale, called the Flaming Penguin; and the second is 1.25 million on the Scoville Scale. Mr Stewart did warn that a few people had returned a couple hours after trying the pie to ask how long the chilli would burn in their stomachs . Speaking with The Advocate in 2014, Mr Stewart did advise "I had one guy sit down and eat the pie as if it was nothing and said the chilli was like a good wine, he said you can taste the quality in the chilli," Mr Stewart said.
