25.01.2022 We now have the Check in TAS app to assist us to meet the Public Health requirement to record contact details of individuals or one member of a group of patrons who attend the club. The good news is it is really easy to set up and use, with many other venues across the state using it too. The Check in TAS app is free to venues and patrons. For further information visit the Department of Health website http://www.health.tas.gov.au/covid19/check_in_tas.... The Check in TAS app is available at the Google Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details...) and from the Apple App Store (https://apps.apple.com/au/app/check-in-tas/id1540569133) If you need any help there are instructions at all entries of the club or send a message here if you have any queries.

25.01.2022 Wishing Sahvanna Cox a fabulous week representing Penguin and all the other young life savers from across the state, who are attending the 2021 Lifesaving Development Camp at Ulverstone Surf Life Saving Club. This is an extremely valued program for both the attendees and their clubs who benefit from the advanced skills gained within a real life scenario training environment. Huge thank you to the Management Team for their commitment to providing this opportunity now in its 7th year.

20.01.2022 Fabulous news for our club and all clubs across Australia with the announcement today from the Australia Government to provide additional funding to every club Lifesaving equipment is expensive and this support allows our volunteers to focus their time on patrolling our beaches, operating our club, providing community awareness programs and educating, training and developing current and future life savers, instead of spending this time fundraising for vital equipment to help keep the public safe.

15.01.2022 It seems as Club President I have been locked in to take the "plunge" down the Central Coast Council Ulverstone Waterslide into the unheated, iced pool. The Central Coast Youth Leaders Council, which consists of representatives from Penguin District School, Ulverstone Secondary College, Leighlands Christian School and North West Christian School are excited to be hosting the Pledge for a Plunge Fightmnd event to help support the FightMND 27 Challenge. There will be a donatio...n tin at the club for anyone interested in supporting this worthy cause and local youth led fundraising event. I am sure there are many of you who would be happy to pay for me to be thrown into a pool of ice cold water. Also only think it is fair if Ulverstone Surf Life Saving Club join in the fun and help raise awareness and funds to Fight MND. You can also donate here https://hub.fightmnd.org.au/2/penguin-surf-life-saving-club. Cheers Allison

06.01.2022 MEET THE MEMBER Club Roving Reporters Angus Burton and Rory McClymont are back with another ‘Meet the Member’ Profile. Today they introduce Matt Stones. Matt is the Junior Activities Coordinator on the committee. This means that his role is to liaise with those like Allison Kable, Nicholas Canales, and Andrew Towns in order to coordinate the nippers training sessions, and to assure that everything runs as smoothly as possible. ... Matt and his family have always loved the ocean and because they only live across the road, they decided that in 2017, they would further their love for the ocean and join the best Surf-Club in Australia. Staying fit is one of Matts priorities and he stated that he still wants be surfing when he’s 80. Its also seeing his family progress through the club which keeps him motivated to keep putting his hand up to volunteer around the club. Many of those within the club see Matt as a role model and a mentor which is great for the growth of our younger members. Matt shared with us, one of his most memorable moments of being within the club. It was during the camp trip to Carlton beach which took place last season. He explained that the whole community feeling was amazing. Seeing the younger kids developing their skills whilst taking on some of the big swell was definitely a highlight for Matt. Matt is an extremely well valued member of the club who has put huge amounts of time and effort into assuring that the Nippers training sessions and other activities run the best they possibly can and he does a great job at it, so we all thank you very much for your efforts Matt! For any questions and enquiries regarding the Junior activities Nippers side of the club, please don’t hesitate to contact Matt Stones.

04.01.2022 Front page - congratulations Ken Knight on 70 years of continuous service to our club and surf lifesaving.

04.01.2022 This is a lovely story about what’s really important, which as a result of an inspirational young ladies choice and observations, thankfully had a positive outcome. Every competitor even at an elite level is a volunteer lifesaver at a local club and must have patrol hours to be eligible to compete, and are truely aware of always being rescue ready, seconds count .

04.01.2022 R U OK? 02.01.2022 Congratulations to Sahvanna Cox who today completed the Lifesaving Development Camp, and obtained valuable advanced lifesaving awards through scenario based activities. Just as valuable are the friendships and connections made with others in clubs across the state. Massive thank you to the volunteer leaders and management committee for the work and commitment that goes into running this program. Special mention to Nicholas Canales who has been a part of the management team for a number of years now.

02.01.2022 Congratulations everyone for those who did not tune in to SLST Awards of Excellence we have just won Club of the Year. This is amazing recognition of what has been a season of strength at our club in every area. It highlights where we came from with low memberships in 2017 particularly our patrolling base where we had 4 patrol teams with a mix of members doubling up to make the 5th. To have 10 patrol teams this season highlights the commitment of everyone. Our Nippers numbers and dedication is also evident and exciting our surf sports area and boats is growing again. Also the financial strength we have gained by all our bar volunteers, plus all our members who help the club in so many different ways. A huge thank you to everyone for your contribution and for making it such a wonderful club to be a part of. Cheers Allison x

02.01.2022 MEET THE MEMBER This week our club roving reporters Rory McClymont and Angus Burton caught up with Deanne Aitken. Deanne has been working hard within the club since 2017. Her main roles within the club include Registrar, uniform coordinator, and a nipper coach for the ‘Little Penguins’. Deanne’s children were keen to start their surf life saving career at Penguin and Deanne was all for it!... The motivation for Deanne comes from all of the kids that she works with around the club. Seeing their pure joy and excitement when they’re training at the club and seeing how far they’ve all come is something which she treasures. For the past two seasons, Deanne has travelled with the nippers for their carnivals down in Carlton Park. She has fond memories of the other parents and the nippers sitting around the campfire telling great stories after they’ve been competing all day at the beach. Deanne works very hard around the club, responsible for training up some of our youngest members and making sure the have fun. The work she does doesn’t go unnoticed so on behalf of the Penguin Surf Club, we all thank you very much!

01.01.2022 Big thank you to our wonderful lifesavers who are back out at Preservation Bay today, tomorrow and Monday from 12pm to 5pm. Enjoy the beach this Christmas holidays, stay safe and swim between the flags.
