18.01.2022 On the 15th of June the Peninsula Woodturners Guild is having a demonstration by Chris Pouncy as part of the Robert Sorby Tour. Sponsered by Robert Sorby and Carbatec he will be demonstrating some of the new tools that Robert Sorby have created since the last tour. The demonstartion will start at 9:30 am so please be there by 9:00 am, cost absolutely free. To quote the Carbatec web site "There is a reason why woodturner Chris Pouncy tours Australia every year! Put simply, it...s because Chris, a true rock star of the wood world, delivers compelling demonstrations packed with info and entertaining patter. He is sponsored by the Robert Sorby tool company so their tools are featured however attendees keep returning because they love the expertise that Chris in turn loves to share. As well as action-packed demonstrations there will be door prizes, discounts and the opportunity to meet Chris at all tour stops." Hope to see you there.

17.01.2022 The Guild is holding its AGM on the 24th of September starting at 9:15 am so all members are requested to attend. We know most of you wont but as an incentive to attend please read on. Afterwards there will be a demonstration by a woodturner who it would be safe to say has turned woodturning upside down, inside out and any other direction that may take your fancy. I am talking about the talented, world renowned, creative and imaginative Stephen Hughes who will keep you enthralled for the rest of the day. $15 which will include a light lunch,ie a BBQ snag. Visitors are welcome with Stephens demonstration starting at 10:15 but try to be there by 10:00 just to be sure you don't miss anything.

17.01.2022 The Peninsula Woodturners Guild are having an exhibition of our members work on the 21-24 of November at the clubrooms in the grounds of McLelland Gallery. Opening hours are 10am to 4pm but may be later depending on how things are going. There will be items for sale and demonstrations of woodturning near the gallery main entrance as well as the Guilds workshop. So if you are looking for something unusual and hand made for presents this may be the place to start looking.

16.01.2022 This weekend the Peninsula Woodturners Guild is hosting the talented Brendan Stemp with an all day demonstration on Saturday with the theme of "into the kitchen". $15 including a sausage sizzle lunch. On Sunday there is a Master Class session limited to 10 lucky people which was booked out well in advance. Both events will start at 9:00 am

14.01.2022 Oops, looks like a slight communication error with the committee or interpretation by me. Starting time for registration for the auction will be at 12:00 in the afternoon, auction to start at 12:30 tomorrow. See you there.

07.01.2022 On the 22nd of August the Guild is hosting a demonstration by Andrew Potocnik, one of this countries better artistic woodturners. Start time is 1:00 PM, admission is 8 dollars which is cheap to see a turner of this calibre. Be at the rooms early so we can start on time, see you there for what should be an interesting and entertaining demonstration.

04.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we have to tell you all of the passing of Vic Walter. He was a very well liked and respected member of our Guild. Vic joined within a month of the initial founding of the Guild and was instrumental in finding the first meeting room for it. He served as President between 1994-1995, was made a Life Member some years later. Always generous with his time and skills, as his Monday turning group can attest too, he will be greatly missed by us all at the Guild. Our condolences go to his family and friends at this sad time.

04.01.2022 Coming up this Wednesday there will be an auction of timber, machinery, hand tools and other items at the Guilds club rooms. Staring at 12:30 in the afternoon so be there early to register and snap up some bargains. Most of the items up for auction are from members who have given up the craft for one reason or another or have gone on to the great workshop in the sky, may their shavings be ever long and their chisels always sharp.

03.01.2022 On the 20th of October the Peninsula Woodturners Guild is hosting Brendan Stemp for an all day demonstration. $15 including the usual BBQ lunch, ie snag. 9:00 am for a 9:30 start for what will be an informative demonstration. The following day, same start time same place, there is a masterclass which is limited to 10 people and already sold out. If there are any cancellations we will inform those on the waiting list. A great chance to get some one on one instruction, insperation and help from one of Australias best woodturners and an absolute bargain at only $60. See you there.

02.01.2022 They say if you need something done quickly and well ask a busy man, well we needed a demonstrator for Wednesday so we asked our Secretary and Treasurer[ yes he does both jobs and arguably the busiest man in the Guild]. So he is up on Wednesday for what could be an interesting afternoon, not sure what he will be doing but we wait with interest. See you there.

01.01.2022 I would like to give a huge thank you to Brendan Stemp for his efforts over this past weekend at the Guild with the demonstration on Saturday, in which he proved he is human when he messed up with the bowl by going through the base of it, and the master class on Sunday. Brendans generosity in showing his skills, knowledge and time was much appreciated by those people who attended the master class. Helpfull hints, different ways of holding pieces and other things too numerous... to mention made it well worth while attending. No matter how good you may be, or think you are, as a woodturner you can always learn something from someone like Brendan. For those woodturners out there who missed out I would recommend that you get in early when the next one comes around because it will fill quickly. Once again, thank you Brendan. There is nothing like having your eyes opened to different chisels and when and how to use them. See more
