09.02.2022 We’re well and truly in the midst of Summer now, enjoying those beautiful beach days and warm sunshine . For some, however that heat can get a bit too much. Doctor of Chinese Medicine, Nadine Gardiner has shared with us a simple, cooling recipe as well as ways these ingredients can help to reduce summer heat. In Chinese Medicine, there are external environmental factors that contribute to illness and cause imbalances in our bodies. One of these is Summer heat. Generally, ou...r bodies can adapt to these changes, however, if there is an imbalance in the body, certain symptoms can arise. Summer heat is Yang in nature, it represents the fire element. The attack of Summer heat is either due to hot weather or the low adaptability of the body to acclimatise. Foods that reduce summer heat: Watermelon - xgu is energetically cooling and sweet. It removes heat including summer heat problems, influences the heart, bladder and stomach; is a diuretic and moistens the intestines. It’s used to treat thirst, urinary difficulty, oedema, canker sores, depression, kidney and urinary tract infections. The seeds of the watermelon affect the kidneys and act as a general diuretic as well as a remedy for constipation. These little things contain a compound called cucurbitacin which helps lower high blood pressure. The rind of the watermelon is rich in silicon and its outer green skin is concentrated in chlorophyll, making it great for diabetes! Dry seeds can be made into tea, whilst fresh seeds can be chewed raw. Watermelon rind can be juiced or dried and made into a tea. Also, it’s quite great pickled in salt (however if you have high blood pressure avoid this one ). Mint bòhe is cool, acrid and surface releasing, in Chinese Medicine, it enters the Lung and Liver meridians. It releases the exterior, dispels wind-heat, clears the head, brightens the eyes and benefits the throat. Mint tea is very refreshing and enters the Lung and Liver meridians. This can be sipped hot or cold and helps to disperse wind-heat, clear the liver, brighten the eyes and drain heat toxins. - Doctor Nadine Gardiner
27.01.2022 We’re excited to welcome everyone back after the holiday period. Happy 2022! Here is a brief update to say that we completely understand and empathise that with the current rapid spread of COVID-19, it can be difficult to manage your booking. If you are not able to attend your appointment due to COVID, please kindly provide us with as much notice as possible Whilst our staff may also be unable to attend appointments for similar reasons, we will ensure to provide all of... our patients with the same regard or offer a different practitioner. We look forward to having you all back in the clinic soon!
25.01.2022 The simple answer is yes. We are essential. We are still open and here to see you! Just to answer some FAQ 1. You are allowed to attend medical appointments outside of your 5km radius. If you are stopped show your appointment reminder message/email. ... 2. Please wear your mask, use the hand sanitiser on arrival and prior to leaving and practice social distancing whilst in the reception area. 3. Deep breaths. 6 weeks. We got this! As you know things are changing day to day. As we know we will update you
22.01.2022 With a heavy heart we have to inform you that we have been instructed that from tonight Wednesday 05/08 that we will be closed for the foreseeable future in-line with the Governments COVID-19 Stage 4 restrictions. Sadly for us and other allied health modalities there has been some ambiguity and not a clear directive until this afternoon that we were unable to stay open until now. Especially disappointing as we know that people are in desperate need of care during this stress...ful period. Whilst there might be further clarification and we could possibly re-open earlier it is best to assume we will be closed for face to face appointments until the end of the lockdown and stage 4 restrictions lifted. During this time we will offer Telehealth as well as contactless herb ordering and collection. Please contact the clinic if we can assist you with this. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you all once this has passed!
11.01.2022 After a whirlwind few days the government has clarified its position on essential service allied health and we will be allowed to re-open. As stage 4 restrictions are in place to limit the movement of the general public certain stipulations have been put in place in what patients we are able to see. Permitted care must only be provided if the absence of, or delay of this care, would result in a significant change/deterioration in the patient/client’s functional independence... necessitating escalation of care. Basically, we are able to assist all patients who if not seen may deteriorate and require emergency care/impact the public health system. The types of patients we are able to see include: 1. Acute or Chronic Pain which requires immediate treatment. 2. Mental Health Concerns. 3. Pregnancy support. Other points to make 1. You do not need a GP referral to see us. 2. You are allowed to drive outside of your 5km radius for an appointment. A appointment reminder message or invoice post appointment is sufficient if you are stopped and checked as to where you are travelling. 3. Wearing a mask within the clinic, hand sanitation and social distancing is required at all times whilst attending appointments. 4. We as practitioners will comply to all PPE/COVID safe requirements to keep your appointment as safe as possible. 5. If you have any cold or flu like symptoms we advise you to not attend the clinic, self isolate and proceed to be tested at your nearest testing facility If you are confused or would like to know if you are able to be seen please call the clinic on 5973 4116 and we can advise. As things are ever changing in this crazy year we will keep you updated as we are :)
11.01.2022 We are masked, temperature checked, sanitised and still open to see you

06.01.2022 This is our lovely Doctor of Chinese Medicine - Helen Bourke. Helen started her TCM journey while she was studying Human Biology at uni. She takes a caring, patient focused approach in her consultations which leads to a carefully tailored treatment plan for each individual. Aside from being a talented healer, Helen is also a mother and loving wife who spends her spare time playing tennis exploring nature and visiting her family in country Victoria. The full interview can... be found in the link on our bio but here is a snippet: ’ . ? After uni and an amazing internship in China seeing TCM integrated into mainstream medicine, I started practicing in community acupuncture clinics in Richmond and Collingwood. As a graduate, it was a great opportunity to work alongside experienced practitioners, and inspiring to see how acupuncture can really help people with chronic, and often debilitating conditions. I've really enjoyed treating people with a range of conditions in clinics around Melbourne since, and have learnt so much from all the practitioners and patients I have worked with along the way. The beauty about being a Chinese Med practitioner is you are continuously learning, evolving and sharing with other people, so there's a lot to enjoy and love about it! ? I love being outdoors, and really enjoy going for a hit of tennis, bush walks, going to the beach, gardening, catching up with friends and going on adventures with my hubby and kids. ? Returning to my home town in country Vic to see my beautiful fam and friends was the first thing I did when restrictions eased. It was so good to see them again! Now I'm really looking forward to live music, winery lunches with friends, escaping to the country and camping under the stars.
