12.01.2022 Join BIAV President David Meehan, CEO Steve Walker and Maritime Safety Victoria's Gareth Johnson as they talk about boating safely under current restrictions.

11.01.2022 We are asking Victorians to stop all forms of recreational boating to help stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). From 11.59pm tonight, Victoria is introduc...ing Stage 3 restrictions. There will only be four reasons to leave your house: For essential food and supplies. For exercise. For medical care. And for work and education if necessary. To be clear, the Premier has described exercise as ‘a walk round the block or a bike ride to stretch your legs and get some fresh air’. This does not include recreational boating. Please note that Marine Search and Rescue services do not have the same capability to perform rescues on the water as they normally would. Anyone choosing to head out on the water is putting themselves and others at increased risk. Our advice is to stay home, take the time to inspect your lifejackets and keep on top of boat maintenance, and prepare for when we have the all clear to head back out. If you can stay home, you must stay home. Take care everyone. 11.01.2022 METROPOLITAN COURSES ON HOLD. Following the announcements made by the Victorian government Victorian Boat Training will not be conducting courses at any Metropolitan locations effective Thursday 9th July for a minimum of 6 weeks. Courses will still be conducted in our regional locations. www.victorianboattraining.com.au/all

11.01.2022 Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions have been reinstated across metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire. This decision has been made to help manage coronavirus ...(COVID-19) and limit its transmission across regional Victoria. You can still fish and boat but with the following restrictions: If you live in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, you can go fishing and boating within metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire with one other person or with household members. You cannot travel outside of metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire to go boating and fishing. If you live outside of metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, existing restrictions still apply but you cannot travel into metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire to go boating and fishing. The Murray River will remain open to those Victorians not living in areas with Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions for fishing and boating. Fishing and boating will be permitted on the Murray provided Victorians do not land on the NSW side of the river. All boats launched in Victoria must be retrieved back in Victoria . Victorians are being asked to be considered and use common sense when it comes to their activities. And importantly, no matter where you live, if you feel sick you must stay home and get tested. 05.01.2022 Last weekend, we saw lots of call outs where people had run out of fuel or lost battery power. Don't forget to check your battery is fully charged, and that you...r fuel tank is full (with fuel that is less than six months old) before you head out. This is especially important if your boat has been sitting in the driveway for a couple of months. If you do find yourself in trouble on the water, you will need to raise the alarm. Distress beacons are your best option in an emergency, however we know it is often the case that mobile phones are first to hand. Our recreational boating safety expert Gareth Johnson has some tips about using a mobile to call for help. Better Boating Victoria See more
