21.01.2022 We're very grateful to have our very own club Wellbeing Ambassador. Muriel Cooper's insightful observations and reflections are an ever-uplifting way to start the week. If you've been feeling emotional lately, Muriel encourages us to find equilibrium through 'enjoying the relief, but accepting the grief.' <3 "It's normal to feel emotional right now If you've had bouts of inexplicable emotionally, you might be thinking 'I'm losing it,' but don't worry, you're not. Unless you h...ave a condition that you know causes mood swings, these are most likely brought about by the pressure of lockdown and the sudden relief of the easing of restrictions. You have the relief. Then you have the grief The grief of not having been able to see loved ones. The grief of watching people lose their businesses and jobs. The grief of people losing their lives. Grief brings emotionality that can't be eradicated by rationality, neither should it be. We need to grieve, and if that brings emotionality, let it out. It will pass. There is also fear about what the future will bring. That too is normal. Enjoy the relief, but accept the grief. It will pass." For more wellbeing wisdom, follow @murielcooperstalkingroom
18.01.2022 While PWC member Marnie Umbers is always very comfortable in conversation with the literati and other heavyweights as host of Frankston Library's awesome FrankTALKS, last night she was mixing it up with none other than Sir General Peter Cosgrove. Marnie lead a great discussion with questions ranging from leadership styles, military strategy, advice for today's youth, and the writing process of Sir Peter's new book "You Shouldn't Have Joined." Bravo, Marnie. We salute you! Check the link in the comments for what's coming up next in FrankTALKS

10.01.2022 How are you spending Story Week?
10.01.2022 "Make time for nature" is Monday's message from our Wellbeing Ambassador Muriel Cooper. "Watching the latest episode of 'The Crown' last night, it occurred to me how much time people of privilege, historically, have had to enjoy nature. Fishing, hunting (not that I approve), horseback riding. Before factories and office buildings, most non totals spent a lot of time in nature too. Gardening, working. Then, with the advent of the industrial revolution, nature slipped away, be...coming only the preserve of the rich, who jealously preserved their estates, pursuing and punishing poachers or anyone who trespassed on their land. During recent times, we've begun to appreciate how important nature is to our physical and emotional health. And now the only barriers to accessing it are our own. Now, as we start to approach some sense of normality, let's not slip back into the small, four walls of our offices. Nature is our proven ally in our quest for health in modern times. Now that many of us are back in touch with nature, let's not lose that touch. Make time for nature." Thank you, Muriel!
07.01.2022 Members ask. Muriel Cooper answers! Our Wellness Ambassador opened for questions from members this week, and will be answering them over the coming weeks. Question: "My conundrum is always finding writing time while having summer fun. Love to know your thoughts."... Answer: Thanks for a good question. It implies balance, but also an obligation to be productive and obligation can produce guilt if we're not achieving what we think we SHOULD be. Writing can be fun, but it's also work. Sitting at the computer, or with the page, whether we're writing, working or doing our taxes, still requires mental effort. Mental energy, like physical energy, is not limitless. Even though writing is enjoyable and creative, it still has an element of work about it and it still takes mental energy. In our society, we accept its our right to have a summer holiday...or at least take some time off work, to refresh ourselves and regain our mental energy. I suggest that taking time off from writing is necessary for the same reason. Of course, if inspiration strikes, I'm sure nothing will stop us from getting it down on the page, but in the meantime, it's important to have a break, take time off and have fun, without feeling guilty because we haven't been as productive with our writing. Guilt can be an enemy of creativity. Let creativity, not obligation, be your guide and enjoy summer fun, especially this summer after such a tortuous year. Next week...Muriel weighs in on not catastrophising about not reaching your goals this year. Our continued thanks to Muriel, a Mornington-based psychologist and author at The Talking Room https://www.talkingroom.com.au/
07.01.2022 Do you sometimes have no motivation to write? Are your expectations of 'not being productive enough weighing you down? This week, our Wellbing Ambassador, Muriel Cooper, encourages us not to worry and take the pressure off... "Why do many of us feel we have to be constantly motivated? Some develop writer's block because of this. They're not motivated for a couple of days. This then turn into fear-based procrastination which can then turn into writer's block. It's not that the...re are no ideas - it's that you've made writing into a scary failure, so your brain doesn't want to go there. A whole industry has evolved out of motivating people, where we idolize and enrich 'motivators' who tell us how to do it. Have you had a day where there's nothing much to do and instead of turning it into a day of leisure, you turned it into a potential yawning chasm of under-achievement? So, you go looking for things to do without a great deal of enthusiasm. Starting this, starting that, jumping from one thing to another and at day's end, collapsing into a stress-ridden heap because you "Got nothing done". If you're not motivated to write, or do anything for that matter, sit with it. Wait for something to bubble up, and most importantly, trust that it will. In meantime, go for a walk or make a cup tea. Do a mundane task (for me, weeding out emails). When you feel that "I SHOULD be doing something important" feeling and there's nothing important to be done, take a deep breath and let it go. I'm sure even Tony Robbins feels unmotivated sometimes " Thanks, Muriel - us creatives need a reminder of this every now and then!
