24.01.2022 This poor bird was put to sleep this week. His beak was twisted out of shape and his legs bowed so badly that he couldn’t run. He has been eking out an existenc...e for the past few years by being fed table scraps, dog food and chicken mince. He had metabolic bone disease. Metabolic bone disease in birds results in painful degenerative changes in the bones that result from nutritional imbalance and deficiencies. Imbalances of calcium, phosphorus, and Vitamin D3 can lead to soft or brittle beaks, claws and keel, bone fractures and enlarged parathyroid glands. If you talk to bird carers, and avian vets they will tell you that this is one of the biggest causes of euthanasia of black and white baby birds that come into care. What makes this so heartbreaking is that in many instances the reason for MBD is entirely preventable because it is due to humans feeding these birds or the birds parents when the bird is still in nest. If you are feeding mince, bread, seed, sausage, chicken or pet food to wild birds you may well be part of the problem. Human food is not natural for magpies and can make them sick. A natural diet for these birds consists of insects and small animals. We often hear I love my local maggies and feed them regularly. If you truly care then don’t feed them regularly and don’t feed them human foods. **** If you really want to help then a compost heap or worm farm can augment the natural food supply during these dry times and still bring these magnificent birds as visitors to your yard******

23.01.2022 Being nocturnal and living underground means the treatment of mange in wombats can be difficult and time consuming. I'm not at all surprised that there are pe...ople willing and able to do the work. Volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure wombats are given the best chance at beating this devastating disease. One method known as the 'burrow flap' enables them to self medicate as they enter and leave their homes. Watch below as it's put to the test. I'm asking the Victorian Government to support mange treatment projects in this years budget. This important work will go along way toward securing wombat numbers into our future.
22.01.2022 It must be love
22.01.2022 Does anyone remember when Opi came in? He was comatised for two days solid and we worked so hard at getting him going and now loooooook
21.01.2022 No rest for the wicked And the picture is here to tell you to STOP AND CHECK. Unforunatly It was to late for this mum and baby, we are lucky there is people who do call and we can and will fight to save their lives. Last night I didn't sleep in fear id loose a new Joey that just came in who is extremely unwell And hats off to Gary from Cobargo Wildlife Sanctuary he attended to an adult kangaroo 40 minutes from his home at 1.30am and this is not unusual for Gary and Sara .... School holidays are here and the mortality rate sky rockets. Without compassion and passion we cant do what we do. Followed by so many tears and a broken heart we won't stop the fight for those who are misunderstood.
21.01.2022 Two days of no movement , laboured breathing, limp and basically in a comatised state. I fought so so hard , fluids , hourly feeds alternating between electrolytes and milk , no sleep and lots of love .. he opened his eyes and lifted his head. But he did the fighting. #saveourwildlife #kangaroo #australia
20.01.2022 This is Peach Peach was attacked by a dog in Tathra and suffered a nasty wound to her leg , it wasn't until a week or so passed that she was called in by a member of the public and rescued by another carer only to end up here with me to be treated for a very nasty maggot infested wound. She was seen at pambula vet clinic by Dr Gabby and will be in care until she has made a full recovery

17.01.2022 I AM NOT YOUR PET. I AM NOT YOUR PROJECT. This is Emmott. Late afternoon yesterday a phone call was made to let us know that the member of the public had a wallaby that wasn't in good shape. I drove an hour and a half to pick him up only to find out firstly they had him for two weeks , they wanted to keep him but then he suddenly got sick. He was being kept in a small cage in a house with hunting dogs , sleeping in a green bag, he was fed baby formula for humans and cat kibble, bread , and some fruit and vegetables. I am honestly amazed he is still alive. Macropods NEED to be cared for by a licensed carer, without the right care , right nutrition and the right environment they will die. Our wildlife is not your pet !
17.01.2022 Gabby tells me she's learning that thing all the kids are doing ... 'dabbing' Anywho , this is little gabby , named after our beautiful local vet who unfortunately had to euthenaise her mum.
16.01.2022 Wild animals are being pushed out of their homes to make way for livestock.
15.01.2022 This is Zelda - I picked her up after a suspected motor vehicle hit laying in someone's front yard. Unable to get up and not much fight to get away from me , I bought her and her young Joey Topsy into care, we had x-rays and discovered there was no obvious breaks but possible spinal nerve damage .. 8 days on after the right medication she has built enough strength to stand , we have a journey ahead of us but I am actually so excited to watch her recover with so much fight and will to live.
13.01.2022 People are so shit
13.01.2022 A beautiful and dedicated carer to our young macropods , without the hours of work that goes into these tiny babies they would not survive. We are so lucky to have you Linda
13.01.2022 In times of crisis, the natural world is a source of both joy and solace. The natural world produces the comfort that can come from nothing else. ~Sir David Attenborough. Ringtail Possum amid the blooms of a Drunken Parrot Tree. Photograph M. Uzzell.
10.01.2022 He was rescued from Cuttagee . Weak but lively, the end of his tail was missing and the bone was exposed. Thankfully Merimbula Vet were to the rescue and operated as soon as possible. Thankyou Dr. Gabby #saveourkangaroos #saveourwildlife
07.01.2022 The Australian Government not only condones the horrendous cruelty inflicted on little joeys like Ginger every, single night but they have legalised it! Have yo...u watched the trailer for "Kangaroo a Love Hate Story"? Or better still, watched the entire movie? https://kangaroothemovie.com/ Australia has a wildlife trade where just a handful of people get incredibly rich off the back of slaughtering kangaroo families every night. Ask your MP if they support this industry! And please help raise awareness. These gentle, kind and loving ancient ones need your voice <3
06.01.2022 Holly's journey ended yesterday and I am deffinatly more then broken. She was released with my mob at the beginning of the year and came home recently very unwell. After fighting hard for two weeks Dr. Howard did some investigating and her heart and kidneys were failing her. She's at peace now on kangaroo island were her fate resides. I can rest knowing we did our best for Holly and she trusted me enough to come home to say goodbye #saveourwildlife #savethekangaroos
05.01.2022 Holidays have finally come for Alex and I and what would we want more then to spend time with the babies
03.01.2022 WE DID IT! It feels surreal to say this - but Andy Meddick MP's motion for pound reform just passed parliament 34-3. These reforms include mandatory kill repo...rting, ensuring rescue groups can save death row animals, reviewing outdated behavioural assessments, and more desexing initiatives (including considering TNR). The government has now committed to a working group for next steps and implementation of the reform. This is history in the making! I'm so proud of the 27,000+ Victorians who signed the petition and the many other Australians who have supported us even though they couldn't sign. THIS IS YOUR SUCCESS. And needless to say, I will forever be grateful to Andy Meddick MP and his dedicated team who have worked so hard to make this happen. Andy also delivered a beautiful speech in Parliament that I hope to share with you soon. I will keep you updated about what happens next - but give yourself a huge pat on the back, because you've earned it. We could not have achieved this without all of you. This is for Dash and for the thousands of others like him who did not need to die. Countless lives will be saved in the future because of them. THANK YOU! Photo credit: Lisa Davis
02.01.2022 This beautiful big boy was rescued Saturday just gone. by krysti , with the help of Susie, To dart him. Krysti please could you coment on his story and when h...e was from . After krysti brought him to us at little urchins we assessed his injuries and felt he was luck to have come in to care so soon after his injuries as the cut were very fresh. A Tear in his leg and damage to his big toe swelling to his ankle and along the foot. To the end of his toe . Krysti called many a vets to get an X-ray of his foot as we’re not sure as yet if he has a fracture in the long bone of the foot. But no sign of infection. His shoulder was also swollen with a small tear in the arm . Cleaned the wounds and dressed them added a splint to the foot just in case there’s a fracture. . He is doing so well very settled and getting around really well. Looking for a name for him . Olivia pointed out we had bandaged him in soccer colours so we named him soccer Roo. Follow his story . He’s so beautiful and I am gaining his trust . Thank you krysti and Susie for saving him See more
01.01.2022 We knew it was most likely coming, but we waited, hoped and wished for as long as we could that there was going to be a better ending. As it is more often than... not with injuries from vehicles, 'Mumma Bear' had to leave us for Kangaroo Dreamland. Her little son Chase said goodbye and we promised 'Mumma Bear' we would do our absolute best for him and she will be very proud. And over the weekend vehicles again caused havoc with the lives of our wildlife. In Tarthra there were three Kangaroos hit all within a small suburban area. In these short narrow streets the normal speed would be 30kph so its hard to imagine how these can all be accidents. We attended Sunday morning to a large male roo who had been hit and then dragged along the road, with the driver failing to stop. He has some serious damage to one paw, and other injuries that will be x-rayed today, but again we will give him a chance. (It wasn't to be. Unfortunately he had a badly broken pelvis. See picture) See more
