24.01.2022 Each year, Sustainable September calls us to focus on the way we are living the way we maintain, use up or spoil the earths resources and how we are impacting our planet and the people of the world. And it reminds us to work for a world for all to share, both now and in the future. We live in a vibrant world may we give time to caring for it, whether it be planting something to bring forth food, picking up the rubbish that scars its beauty or writing letters to encourage good legislation for its protection (Ecochurches WA, Sustainable September 2020). #SustainableSeptember #SundayReflection

Expect some exciting changes in Term 4 and beyond. Read the latest at our blog https://penrhos.wa.edu.au/news/a-warm-focus-on-wellbeing/ #PenrhosJuniorSchool #Wellbeing

23.01.2022 Our Year 12s recently celebrated the Mother Daughter Dinner - a lovely evening including three-course meal, plus presentation of Penrhos alumni dragon charms and gratitude flowers to thank mums for their ongoing support. We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2020 and their families back to the College for their final Valedictory celebrations on 21 October. #PenrhosCollege #MotherDaughter #Graduation

23.01.2022 In 2020, we were encouraged to ‘wander out yonder’ due to border restrictions on travel outside WA. We’d love to hear from boarding families and alumni whose regional businesses benefited from the local tourism boom. Who has silver linings to share from what was a very peculiar year?! We want to share your story comment below or email [email protected] #PenrhosBoarding #Regional #Wandering #WesternAustralia Photo credit: Rural Room

21.01.2022 Today, on Fathers Day, we remember the men in our lives who have loved, supported and strengthened us. Thank you - you mean the world to us. What is a dad? A dad is a person whos loving and kind, and often he knows what you have on your mind. Hes someone who listens, suggests and defends; a dad can be one of your very best friends. Hes proud of your triumphs, but when things go wrong, a dad can be patient, helpful and strong. In all that you do, a dads love plays a part; theres always a place for him deep in your heart. And each year that passes, youre even more glad, more grateful and proud just to call him your dad! (Author Unknown) #FathersDay #SundayReflection

20.01.2022 This year in the Uniting Church, the theme for Sustainable September is - now is the time to act. The Uniting Church promotes care for all creation and encourages all members to take actions that will lead to a more sustainable planet for future generations. As the Uniting Church, we believe we are connected to all Gods creation and we have a commitment to work towards sustainable and non-exploitative living. Our world is gravely threatened by climate change, and it is our responsibility to act to limit the worst impacts and stand in solidarity with those who are most vulnerable. (Dr Deidre Palmer, Uniting Church President). To read more about the Uniting Churchs Sustainable September plan, head to https://uniting.church/a-new-season-of-caring/ #SundayReflection #SustainableSeptember #Care

19.01.2022 Some people just have a natural calling to teaching, even if they havent realised it yet! As a lifelong learner, Nicole Briggs eventually immersed herself in education and teaching and has never looked back. She considers it a great privilege to guide discussions that will hopefully help to shape our next generations. #TeacherTuesdays #EnglishDepartment 1. What do you teach? I teach English and Literature in Secondary School.... 2. When did you first know you wanted to become a teacher? The funny thing is that I never wanted to be a teacher! In fact, it was the one job I was adamant as a child that I would never do! After studying English Literature and Political Science and completing my Honours, I just kept getting this nagging feeling that I should teach. I eventually relented and enrolled to complete my Graduate Diploma in Education, and I have never looked back. 3. What are your favourite things about teaching? For me, the relationship that I have with my students is by far the best part of teaching. In a subject like English where we are dealing with global views and exploring our world, I see it as a privilege to guide discussions which will hopefully help to shape our next generations. 4. Do you have a favourite quote? I try to live by the Micah Mandate (Micah 6:8) which says: What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. 5. Do you have any interesting hobbies? In my spare time, I enjoy watching my children play sport - particularly cricket, hockey and football Ill watch any sport really! I enjoy reading, jigsaw puzzles and gardening. I love animals and have a golden retriever and two Burmese cats, who keep me entertained.

19.01.2022 One of the highlights of 2020 to date is the exciting launch of Penrhos Full Circle, our new wellbeing initiative led by College Psychologist Tracy Hart. Tracy is working with groups of parents and carers both face-to-face and via technology - to help support the wellbeing of our girls, as part of our pastoral care offering. Join the closed Facebook group Penrhos Full Circle to learn more about Tracy via this weeks #TeacherTuesday #WellbeingWeek #RUOK What is your role a...t Penrhos? I have been in the role of College Psychologist at Penrhos for nearly 10 years. This year, I have been privileged to initiate Penrhos Full Circle - supporting our caregivers to, in turn, support the mental health and wellbeing of our girls. The workshops and seminars have been very popular so far. When did you first know you wanted a career in education? I was lucky enough to have some wonderful mentors in high school, who really inspired me. I can't remember ever thinking of doing anything else! I started retraining as a psychologist after teaching for five years and I have held roles in learning support, pastoral care and careers along the way. I have never really left school or education settings. What are your favourite things about your role? I can't think of anything more important than supporting the adults in our girls lives, knowing that the benefits will come back full circle to the girls. I love working with groups and assisting caregivers to work out helpful conversations and practices for their own context. Do you have a favourite quote? You cant stop the waves, but you can learn to surf. Jon Kabat-Zinn Do you have any hobbies? I love to study, dream about travel, travel when I can, spend time with family and friends and drink good coffee! I also love musical theatre! What is your proudest career achievement? I was so excited to win an NGS Super Scholarship to train in London during my 2019 long service leave. It inspired me to continue exploring group mental health and reinvigorated a passion for early intervention and preventative services like Full Circle.

17.01.2022 This mornings Year 5 showcase was an exciting learning journey through Term 3 History, English, Art and Library - a proud occasion for both parents and teachers! Our overarching question - Is there more than one perspective? - prompted the girls to think from different points of view, to constructively challenge each others thoughts and ideas, in helping to build a free-thinking, open-minded community. Well done, girls! #Exhibition #PenrhosJuniorSchool

17.01.2022 Thursday, 10 September is Penrhos College Wellbeing Day which coincides with R U OK day. A range of on-campus activities have been pla...nned that encourage us to relax and reconnect with one another creative colouring in, guided meditation, making gratitude cards to show appreciation for loved ones. 16.01.2022 #Congratulations to our Student Leadership Team for their triumph in the annual Penrhos vs Wesley College Perth #Netball game winning by a comfortable 11- 4. Well done to all 100 girls who participated over the five day 2020 WA Volleyball Schools Cup competition - Penrhos walked away with no less than five gold and five silver medals. Keep an eye out for the full results in the next PCN including the most valued players. #PenrhosSport #PenrhosVolleyball #AlumniMentors

16.01.2022 The tree is trimmed, the stockings hung, the stories read, the carols sung. I’ve placed the gifts beneath the tree, the stockings bulge with mystery. The scene is set for Christmas Eve, but then before I turn to leave, there in the stable small and brown I lay the baby Jesus down soft gently in his manger bed, wisps of straw to pillow his head. Somehow I feel the hours spent in making Christmas evident - the wrappings sparkling green and red, the sugar cakes and gingerbread, beribboned wreaths and candleshine - all these are proffered gifts of mine made up of thoughts and love and time. Just simple gestures, not sublime, but offered in his name today. My efforts seem in some small way much like the Magi’s gifts of old - my frankincense and myrrh and gold (Ethel Dietrich). #SundayReflection #Advent #Christmas
