13.01.2022 Meet the composers... A Joyful Noise concert is this Sunday. Mendelssohn was a child prodigy, writing string symphonies from the age of 12. His first publis...hed work, a piano quartet was written when he was 13 years old. In later years Mendelssohn played an important role in reviving the music of J S Bach in Europe. In 1829 he organised and conducted a highly acclaimed performance of the St Matthew Passion which had not been played since Bachs death in 1750. We will be singing three works by Mendelssohn including Lift Thine Eyes from his most famous oratorio Elijah. See more

01.01.2022 Meet the choir... Hi we are Megan and Bruce and we are newer members of Penrith City Choir. We have had a lovely warm welcome to this wonderful group. Choral singing is an exhilarating joyful experience and we enjoy the challenge of learning. Lucy is a wonderful leader who challenges and encourages us all. Singing in a choir is a lot of fun and the learning experiences are wonderful! We are looking forward to the next performance at St Stephens church on 27th October at 3pm.
01.01.2022 Meet the composers... For A Joyful Noise one of the composers is Antonio Vivaldi. Dont be deceived by the white wig Vivaldi had curly red hair like many members of his family. A violinist like his father, Vivaldi went into the priesthood (like all good eldest sons) and was ordained at 25. His nickname was The Red Priest. J S Bach was a great fan of Vivaldis music.
