23.01.2022 Why are our politicians any different? --- For our representatives to truly represent us, they must understand us. To efficiently and compassionately respond they must also experience the pain we are all going through. Like thousands of others, I too have had to take a salary cut just to retain employment.... Surely I and others are the lucky ones. As thousands of small businesses shut and thousands more workers and casuals lose their jobs. Putting aside the national cabinet, our local MPs are actually doing less now then they ever have. No fuctions to attend. No photo opportunities or unveilings. Little physical contact with constituents. Yet week after week the $$ keep rolling in. I say it's time for our politician to step up and show leadership. I am not taking aim at the wealth of any specific politician; or their 2nd, 3rd or 4th houses or all of the necessarily claimed expenses. Just a common sense flat pay cut.

20.01.2022 SMITHY’S AUSTRALIA DAY by Warren Dakin - Australians are a funny lot, you’ll often hear one curse, How things have started badly, and they’ll probably get worse,... The weathers dry, the sun’s so hot it’s stolen all the water, The Government has never done the things we think they oughta’. But if we hear a tourist say his home is much more grand, They had better be prepared to make a very solid stand. For although we Aussies may complain at what’s become our lot, When someone knocks this country, we defend with all we’ve got. We may criticise some teenage brat, may even wish them failure, But we stand behind them cheering when they’re playing for Australia. Because, if this is home to you, the country of your birth, Then you back the native player to beat anyone on Earth. When the cricket bats are swinging or when someone scores a try, When a home grown horse has won the cup and made the owner cry, When some paralympic athlete hits the front and sets the pace, You’ll hear Aussie Aussie Aussie as the crowd goes off their face. And although we like to take a break in overseas locations, If you take the time to question this nomadic population, They will tell you without blinking that wherever they may roam, The best part of the journey was the last bit, .coming home. For the sun was never brighter on the beach at Waikiki, Than it is on all the sandy shores Australia has to see, The water never purer nor the air as fresh and clear, The people never friendlier than those that we have here. If you venture to the outback where grass is scarce as snow, As you swelter you may wonder what it was that made you go, But just look at the locals who have lived there since their birth, And I know you will not find a better class of folk on earth. All across this wide brown country from the Cape to Hobart town, There are people who will help you when you find the chips are down, And if someone should abuse you, and does it just because, Then that person’s not Australian, and that person never was. So when you feel disgruntled just remember this rendition, And never blame the country for the acts of politicians, Look up and count your blessings when you see our flag unfurled, And be grateful that you live in the best country in the world. #Straya

16.01.2022 DASHED HOPES --- Local residents Ken and Pauline Hope have lived in the same property for over 40 years. Neither are blindly against development on principle, but for simply seeking a fair go, they are now in a David and Goliath battle with the NSW State Government and Lendlease.... The Hope's accept that part of their land was forcably acquired by the state government as part of the upgrade to the Northern Road. What they were not expecting was three years of headache and heartache with the construction giant using their property as a dumping ground, damaging fences, and racking up an estimated $90k in monies owed to them for the rented use of the additional land, all of which remains unpaid and not repaired despite a written agreement. So what do the Hopes do? They reach out with hope to Lendlease, NSW Roads, Transport Minister Andrew Constance MP, Tanya Davies MP, even one of their local Penrith City Council representatives. Everything good citizens are supposed to do. And what happened? Everything we’ve come to expect from good government and those they wheel and deal with - nothing - all have either ignored the calls for help, declined to speak with the Hopes, or similarly just put it all into the to hard basket. Yet now in this news item Transport for NSW make claims in direct contradiction to the written correspondence provided to the Hope Family. So which is it? Are these companies really that untouchable? Are our representatives really that unaccountable? What does it take to get a fair go? And who will stand up for the Hopes? 9 News Sydney Jodi McKay MP Chris Minns MP A Current Affair Councillor Karen McKeown

14.01.2022 On days like these, it fills my heart with joy to know we can actually trust the Govt and the local MP to fulfil election promises. 7 years with the LNP and 15 mths with Ms shh don’t talk and check All the Congestion is Busted and Dunheved Rd upgrades are full steam ahead... ... No wait. I was dreaming. I must have passed out for bit, while stuck in this car park soaking up all the carbon monoxide.

14.01.2022 IS ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR? - The ARL Commission announced yesterday that following advice from the Australian Rugby League Indigenous Council, the national anthem will not be played at the All Stars match on the Gold Coast later this month. Many of the people I have spoken to since the announcement have mixed feelings. So I thought I would pose the question:... Is it time to change our national anthem to be more inclusive?

13.01.2022 GROW A MO FOR A BRO On average, one in eight men will experience depression and one in five men will experience anxiety at some stage of their lives. Blokes make up an average six out of every eight suicides every single day in Australia. The number of men who die by suicide in Australia every year is nearly double the national road toll.... Mental health matters. Movember Australia is working to help men stay mentally healthy, but they can’t do it alone. Let’s get Mo-tivated. Please donate to my Movember efforts and support men's health. #Movember #MoForABro

11.01.2022 Another kick in the teeth for our frontline emergency service workers. After being told this week that Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced a 12 month wage freeze for all NSW public service workers, last week she spent up big dishing out increase after increase to the faceless bureaucrats that run her and her government.

10.01.2022 HIGHWAY UPGRADE TO INCLUDE BIRTHING LANE --- Given that our own federal member is a young mum herself, I would be interested to know what Melissa McIntosh MP thinks of the PMs contemptuous response to failed maternity services in parts of regional NSW. On Wednesday, Alicia Payne - Labor for Canberra, addressed a question to Prime Minister Scott Morrison (ScoMo).... Women from the Yass Valley are currently forced to travel an hour to Canberra or Goulburn to give birth. As a result, a number of women have been forced to give birth on the side of the Barton Highway. Does the Prime Minister agree that this is unacceptable? And the PMs response - Well, I’m pleased to let the member know that that’s why we’ve committed $150 million to upgrade the Barton Highway. Perhaps the upgrades should include a birthing lane or a drive through maternity unit? Having worked in regional NSW for a number of years while my wife was heavily pregnant with our twins, I know only too well the issues that come with limited access to healthcare services in these areas. We expect better than this. Women deserve better representation than this.

08.01.2022 The Penrith Relay For Life Gala Dinner on Saturday night was a huge success. Well done to the Committee for their effort in putting together a great night at the St Marys Rugby League Club. Events such as these help to raise vitals funds for the Cancer Council NSW research, prevention, information and support services. #FcukCancer

08.01.2022 There are many different types of Dads. Father figures come in all shapes and sizes, and being a parent can sometimes lie with a less-traditional role-model. So today let’s celebrate all the different dads out there who help shape who we are. Happy Father’s Day ... If you or a loved one need support, Lifeline can provide a listening ear and telephone crisis support 24/7 on 13 11 14.

07.01.2022 As today’s high temperatures look to fuel an already extremely volatile and dangerous fire threat across large parts of NSW, please stay safe and adhere to the directions of our NSW Rural Fire Service and Emergency Services.

06.01.2022 The NSW Opposition have introduced legislation to ban property developers and real estate agents from serving as councillors. Since 2017 councillors must disclose whether they are a property developer or a close associate of one. But is that enough? Do you think property developers and real estate agents should be eligible to serve on local councils?

05.01.2022 It is an honour to have been selected to sit on the 2021 Australasian Housing Institute Awards Committee. These Awards formally recognise and reward excellence in professional practice, from the grassroots to the most senior levels. They serve as an opportunity to promote the difference that social housing professionals make to people’s lives. #community #housing #professionals... https://www.housinginstitute.org/2021-awards-judges

04.01.2022 MORE CROOKS COME HOME TO ROOST?? --- Doesn't pass the pub test Or the public money test.... Stuart Ayres may try to justify it with a new statement, in each new week, just like his federal liberal counterparts. Simply put - the $12 million State Government grant was for allocated for a grassroots sports centre. Nothing more, nothing less. If the scope of works changed, then so too should the allocation of funding. Either less or zero. Instead of leg spinners, it’s just more partisan spin. Yes that includes the ALP who come off poorly, appearing to care more about the political point scoring than they do the people of Penrith. But let’s get back to basics. If you or I obtained a Council or NSW grant we would have to acquit it without change. If you or I got planning approval for a pegola and back deck, we could not build a granny flat instead. So one can confidently conclude that Panthers got a sweetheart deal that’s out of the ordinary. Or perhaps that’s the real issue. That this isn’t out of the ordinary. That this is the real normal. Money = Influence and Influence = Money. And we Taxpayers are just suckers. Could your local sporting facility use a $12 million boost? Could 12 clubs / sports in Penrith use 1 mil each? NSW ICAC needs its funding returned, and we need a FED ICAC yesterday. And I Campaigned for both at the last elections. More than ever before we need private money out of politics. It’s the only true way to weed out corruption in both parties. It is also the only way to have a real competition of ideas. #MoreSportsRorts #MoreToCome

02.01.2022 FEDERAL ICAC - NOW Of course we are all shocked, but not surprised by this scandal. This is precisely why a Federal ICAC was my top priority when running for the federal set of Lindsay. It begs the question:... Why is the Liberal Party of Australia not all over this like a fat kid on a cupcake? Is it because they are just as hollow; just as preciously built on a house of cards; as we all expect? Could it be that they are concerned about their most recount and public issues such as the electoral rorting by Gladys Liu MP and the China connection, Senator Bridget McKenzie's $100M sports rorts, Angus Taylor MP's doctored documents, the parachuting of Warren Mundine into the seat of Gilmore or Morrison into the seat of Cook. If the Adem Somyurek scandal, while a Victorian state issue, is not yet another reason to establish a Federal ICAC then it begs the question what will it actually take to achieve this solution and real accountability? I mean seriously what will it take? #ICACnow #auspol
