10.01.2022 Turquoise has been mined for thousands of years in the regions of Iran, the Sinai Peninsula (Egypt) and in more modern times the United States. It is often found in large scale copper mines due to chemical compound being a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminium. Turquoise can be very valuable in its finer grades.

07.01.2022 Turquoise was an important gemstone for many ancient cultures. The Aztecs inlaid turquoise into gold in combination with other minerals to make masks, knives and shields. Possibly one of the most famous ancient artefacts containing turquoise is Tutankhamun’s burial mask which it was inlaid in gold and accompanied by lapis lazuli and carnelian stones. Such fascinating artefacts!

05.01.2022 Garnet is named after the Latin word ‘garanatus’ meaning ‘seedlike’ as it looks much like the seeds of a pomegranate. It is one of the oldest gems used by mankind dating back as far as the Bronze Age (3300-1200BC). Pieces from the famous Staffordshire Hoard, a collection of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver metalwork dating back as early as the 9th Century, contain beautiful inlaid garnets in Celtic motifs.
