24.01.2022 What a brilliant idea!

23.01.2022 Mr & Mrs Spiny Leaf Stick Insect. 3 years ago I wouldn't have even gone near these guys. I had a terrible fear of bugs and crawlies. I didn't like them near me and having them touching me would have resulted in a lot of manic flailing around and possibly hyperventilation. I'm honestly so proud of students when they make the decision to put their fears aside and try to hold or pat one of my Sticky friends. I know how they feel. To overcome that fear is not easy...but I encoura...ge everyone to try! Now I love working with these guys! I'm still not 100% with spiders like our spider loving mate @toms_hooked_on_nature #LoveWhereYouLearn #lovewhereyouwork #penrithlakeseec #Extatosomatiaratum #spinyleafstickinsect

22.01.2022 Biodiversity Month is held in September each year and aims to promote the importance of protecting, conserving and improving biodiversity both within Australia and across the world. Australia is home to between 600,000 and 700,000 species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. About 84% of our plants, 83% of our mammals, and 45% of our birds are endemic meaning they are only found in Australia. Such a simple concept but with long-lasting and invaluable health and wellbeing benefits - and the bonus is that we have managed to align it with the Stage 1-4 curriculum for teaching convenience

12.01.2022 Beneficial bugs! Making their homes in Penrith Lakes EEC Kitchen Garden Schools across Greater Western Sydney, pollinators of all shapes and sizes are welcomed ...by teachers and students alike. A small yield of the fruit and vegetables grown in our schools are left to take seed, encouraging pollinators like bees, moths, butterflies, flies, and even mosquitoes to populate the garden and bring to conclusion the life cycle of our valued plants. Our pollinators find food and take up residence for the seasons to follow and our students take joy in harvesting from pods and flower heads to seed save for the following year. #LoveWhereYouLearn #EZECNSW #DepartmentOfEducation #kitchengarden #pollinatorgardens #PollinatorWeek
