23.01.2022 Vale John Kearnes | It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to long time Association Member John Kearnes, who lost his battle with cancer on Friday morning. Association Chairman, Gary Haines has paid tribute to John Kearnes following his passing yesterday morning.... John was a member of our Association for more than 25 years and in that time he made a significant contribution to the coaching and development of our members. He always put forward his views, challenged members to do better and his heart was always in the right place. Last season when his health deteriorated, we had a long conversation about taking it easy but he was determined to be out and about at the football every weekend. John simply said, ‘it takes my mind off the chemotherapy’. We will miss his commitment and dedication very much. This weekend members of the NSWRL Junior Representative Squad wore black arm bands, in memory of John

06.01.2022 VALE TONY BUTLER, LIFE MEMBER | It is with a heavy heart and much sadness that we inform you of the passing of Life Member, Tony Butler on Monday. Tony joined our Association in 1979, he was graded in 1993 and awarded Life Membership in 2002. He achieved so much on the field including his appointment to the A Grade division 1 grand final in 1985 and being awarded the Bob Kandelas Referees’ Referee Award in 1986. ... Tony held many positions including Advisory Panel, Appointments Board, Coaching Panel and Association Trainer, the latter being a role he was dedicated to improving the fitness of the active referees. 02.01.2022 Penrith Referees Association Development Squad Provides Clear Pathway to Higher Squads | Over a long period of time our best up and coming referees have been selected in our Development Squad. They train hard over the offseason to get ready for the season ahead and gain skills necessary for their progression, it has also paved a stepping stone for our officials to get to the next level. This squad has unearthed a lot of talent in its time having members like current NRL offic...ials Grant Atkins, Rickey McFarlane and Mark Bohan all coming through this squad. This year is no different, our squad has trained for a number of weeks and will continue to up until Christmas and return in early January. Today the squad was lucky enough to be presented their new training singlets by the Director of Referee Development Cam Turner and one of the squads coaches Lyndsay Packer!
