22.01.2022 From the Southern Highlands Fire Control Centre This is to advise that the current suspension of Fire Permits was reviewed this morning taking into account the significant local growth in grasslands fuels and dryness of soils etc. Despite recent rains there has been no appreciable rise in soil moisture thus making the threat of escape of fire from pile burning activities a real possibility. Accordingly, the current suspension of Fire Permits will remain in force until furthe...r notice. This suspension will be reviewed towards the middle of February or if there is a significant change to the current weather pattern. An 'in-field' inspection and collection of fuel samples is undertaken in both Local Government Areas every week. See more

19.01.2022 Your Brigade is getting prepared ARE YOU? With all PERMITS SUSPENDED and hot windy weather on the way it is time to get prepared. Time to look at your Bushfire Survival Plan https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/resources/bush-fire-survival-plan and to prepare your property https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-p/prepare-your-property Your Brigade was preparing with a game of 'firies soccer', a bit of fun but good pump, water transfer and hose training

19.01.2022 "The concreting at the Brigade Shed is now completed which provides improved access to bay 3 and allows 3 tankers to park and fill at once. A great situation if/when the Village is threatened as we were earlier this year. WOW what a generous community the Southern Highlands is. We thought that we would be spending all of our NSW Government $10 000 RFS grant on the concreting and lockers but due to the generosity of the community we will now be able to buy more fire-ground rad...ios (over and above our RFS allocation). A HUGE thanks to: - Roy Clewett (Clewett Concreting - Moss Vale) and the team he used on the two days, Mick Lebernegg & Luke Challis, for his discount on 'an already excellent value for money quote' and an excellent job https://www.facebook.com/royclewettconcreting/ Robert Giddings, General Manager Concrete NSW & ACT BORAL, for the very generous donation of 6 cubic metres of concrete towards the job. Also, thank you to Rod Hurry, Account Manager at BORAL https://www.boral.com.au/ Mark Gualtieri from Bowral Concrete Pumping for donating his concreting pumping services on the day using his brand new 'biggest concrete pumper in NSW'. Also to Peter Lethridge from CPE who assisted Mark. 0414 582 577 Simon from Sawcrete for the concrete saw cuts 0415465760 And finally a big thank-you to our Brigade member Nick Turner from NJT Earthworks, here in Penrose, for donating his time and machinery to do all the excavation work and also the donation of the road base material used for the slab prep. https://www.facebook.com/njtearthworks/ 0427 909 451 These are great LOCAL business that have supported the Village so deserve our support in return, give them a call and see what they can do for you when considering who to use for your next project."

18.01.2022 The Fire Danger Rating for 16/11 is VERY HIGH. All FIRE PERMITS are SUSPENDED

17.01.2022 The Brigade was paged to two illegal burns today. The first was to rubbish being burnt in a large pit in Kareela Road and the second to a small pile burn at Canyonleigh

16.01.2022 At the Brigade General meeting tonight members of the Brigade were presented with their 'NSW Premier's Bushfire Emergency Citation' for service during the 2019/20 Bushfire season by Inspector David Stimson, unfortunately not all recipients could be present. Members of the Brigade were involved from October 2019 in Northern NSW , at the Green Wattle Creek fire (December) till the Mighty Morton Fire was declared out in early February 2020 putting in over 260 deployment days. Of course the Brigade could not have been able to put in this sustained effort without the support of their families and the Village.

16.01.2022 This morning Penrose 1, PC South (combined crew of 7) and Wingello RFB responded to Wingello to an 'assist ambulance crew'.

14.01.2022 For those who are wondering what is happening at your RFS Shed today. The Brigade is using money from the $10000/brigade grant from the NSW Government to put in a concrete apron to allow heavy RFS vehicles to access our southern water tanks. Big thanks to to Nick Turner from NJT Earthworks for doing the excavation for free. The concrete will be poured tomorrow. The money was also spent on 24 lockers for new members

10.01.2022 First call-out of the year as Penrose 1 and PC South responded to assist Wingello RFB at a MVA on Murrimba Rd. The Brigade was called off en-route. Excellent response to the page with 4 members left at station due to COVID-19 restrictions on truck crew numbers
