25.01.2022 "Learn as much as you can about the culture and participate." - Aunty Deanna. Each year, NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who are part of some of the oldest continuing cultures on the planet. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #NAIDOC2020 *Posted by the NSW Department of Education*

24.01.2022 Here’s some facts & figures about our ‘Yellow Brick Road’: 49m2 concrete to create our path 38 pavers / 1m2... 1,862 pavers to cover the whole path 24m long and 1.5m wide, with wider bits at both ends Expansion joints are every 6m Saw cuts every 2m As much as we’d love to cover our ‘Yellow Brick Road’ in 1,862 pavers, we don’t think that will happen, but we can always aim extra high! Our more realistic goal is 100 pavers, but happy for more. These will be laid in rows. This will allow for almost 16 rows. With 16 rows we could have a row of pavers approx every 80cm. We currently have enough for 12.5 rows. Below shows the path we are trying to cover. Have you got your form in? The closing date has been extended. Do you need a new form? Message us and we will send you one.

24.01.2022 Looking for inspiration for your Hand drawn paver? Here's some examples from Signature Engraving & Design-a-Brick to help with the inspiration. Due to the delay in getting the playground build started we have decided to extend order due date. The new date will depend on when the build start.... Watch this space for a new closing date.

21.01.2022 Please join me in congratulating Rebecca Harrison, who was today the winner of the 2020 David Coleman Volunteer Of the Year Award! Penshurst West P&C appreciates and recognises all volunteers, regardless if they are an active part of the P&C or not, and today, Rebecca who has volunteered at our school for approximately 10 years was recognised by David Colman also, amongst a wealth of worthy candidates from various organisations throughout the community. Congratulations Rebecca!

20.01.2022 The shape and form of the new Playground is appearing. You can see the course of the pathway. I wonder what is going into the holes?

20.01.2022 Book Club Ordering is back at Penshurst West in time for Christmas, however, this time things are a little different. - All orders will be online via 'LOOP ' ONLY. - If you have not used LOOP before, an account can be set up by visiting Scholastic.com.au/LOOP - If you have any issues creating your account, please contact scholastic on 1800 021 233 and they will be happy to guide you. - All Orders will be delivered to your home NOT the school. 16.01.2022 It's SASS Recognition Week this week. It is a time to stop for a moment and contemplate the tremendous work done by the School Support and Administrative Staff, or SASS, at Penshurst West PS. SASS cover a wide range of roles within the school. In fact, the school would find it difficult to operate if these dedicated staff were not seeing to the needs of our students, staff and wider community: Finance Management Learning Support... Grounds, Repair, and Improvements Attendance, Enrolment and Exemptions Library Assistance Goods, Deliveries and School Resource Management Archiving and Records just to name a few. It is easy to get some idea about how valuable the role of SASS is in any school is and how active the SASS staff are at Penshurst West. We are particularly fortunate in the level of skill and sheer goodwill from which students and teachers benefit each and every day. What is more, they are to the last person, just superb human beings who look to consistently buoy the work and efforts of everyone around. On behalf of the entire community, we thank our SASS for playing an irreplaceable role in making Penshurst West Public School, a great school. 09.01.2022 Well our Tee Pee Boardwalk Challenge is finished. It also looks like our Passive Play area is almost finished. I'm sure our students will have fun in the rock grinding area. Can't wait to see the slide go in!

08.01.2022 Want to know what’s going into our new playground? Here’s what’s in our Passive Play area and what all the numbers & letters mean. Unfortunately, our budget didn’t stretch to the whole design. But this allows us something to work towards.... #1 Not included in this build Timber sleeper bench seats #17 Not included in this build New planted garden beds Maybe a parent working bee? #2 Rock grinding station #16 Not included in this build Shade trees #3 Natural Australian hardwood seating #4 Informal sandstone boulder terracing Totem Not included in this build E Deco granite surfacing C New turf #6 Timber deck cluster #5 Sandstone log seats Now are those sandstone blocks making more sense?

We are in the process of finding out the new start date and will keep you posted. 'Yellow Brick Road' memory pavers can still be ordered. Here's some ideas of what they could look like. First two images are thanks to Signature Engraving.... Can't find your form? Send us a message and we'll forward you a new one.

06.01.2022 Have you placed your 'Yellow Brick Road' memory paver order yet? Email your completed form; along with your Direct Deposit receipt to [email protected] Don't have a scanner? Then drop your completed form in the Penhurst West Public School letterbox. The letterbox can be found next to the Scott Street entrance gate.... Need a form? Then send us a message and we'll forward you one. Orders close 27 September 2020 Thanks for your support!

04.01.2022 Our new playground is commencing. Today the area was fenced off. Tomorrow a bobcat to reshape the area and the delivery of Sandstone blocks and boulders will arrive. Urban Landscape will continue to work through the holidays and when school resumes on the 12/10 there will be lots of changes to see. Don’t forget to get your Paver order in.

03.01.2022 Our playground build is almost complete and it's looking fantastic. There are some very excited students who can't wait for the fences to come down. For those that thought we lost the grass area, check out the photos as the new playground hardly made a dent in it. No plants for the time being, our budget didn't stretch that far. But the items in the playground will keep the students pretty busy during lunch & recess.
