21.01.2022 Fiona and her mum came to us after previously trying to apply for the Age Pension themselves and after 12 months they gave up. They engaged us and we had it sorted within 3.5 weeks. This is what they thought about Pension Services.
21.01.2022 Liz was referred to us by a Financial Adviser and she was an absolute nervous wreck, she had been trying to complete the Centrelink forms at home for over 4 months. You see Liz had been eligible for the Age Pension for years but she had some Airbnb income and some other sources of income coming in so never worried about it. Until COVID hit and this dried up very quickly. She felt guilty about her sons supporting her, but didn't know what else to do. We took over the whole pro...cess for Liz, liaised with her Accountant and determined the best course of action. We gave Liz a specific list of things that she needed to get us in order for it all to go smoothly. Late last night I got the email containing the below. Liz is over the moon, it has taken less than 7 days for her Age Pension to be approved, she will have money in the account next week and she can move forward with life. What a great way to end the week!
19.01.2022 The fear of COVID-19 spread has made many people afraid to move into residential care. But is it a real problem, or just a bad media rap? A recent Government report shows that despite the deaths from COVID-19, in the first seven months of this year, around 1,000 fewer aged care residents passed away than in the same period last year. This is likely due to lower rates of influenza and infection control protocols. The report also shows that out of the 2,706 residential aged car...e services in Australia, only 213 had experienced any COVID-19 infections (at 11 September), with 98 of these having only one case. And most have been in Victoria. Overall, the proportion of all aged care residents in Australia who passed away with COVID was 0.32% (this compared to 5.3% in the UK). One of the hardest aspects this year has been the need to isolate and that has restricted family visits. Technology may help to stay in touch, but it doesn’t always replace a hug. Whatever your fears, the most important thing is to keep safe and to ensure our loved ones access the best care, in a suitable environment. There are no guarantees in life, but informed decision-making can help remove some stress. Look at all your options, including residential care. If you or a family member needs care now, or in the near future, give us a call on 1300 025 521 to discuss how we can take away the stress of the complex paperwork #centrelink #agedcare #retirement
19.01.2022 We have been working with one of our clients for the last 6 months. They have a complex situation and have been "stuck" in complex assessments. Now to get the initial application in, it has taken us over 5 hours, 120 pages of application forms and close to 200 pages of supporting documentation. Now after 6 months of having this application last week, the application came back as declined. As someone in Centrelink had calculated her husband's income as $120k per annum, in re...ality, it is maybe $60,000 and she is entitled to her benefit. If she had not been working with us, she would have just accepted this rejection and moved on with life. We have lodged an appeal on her behalf, and demonstrated the clients actually income and potentially where the mistake has been made. Now we can't guarantee the results but we are 99% sure we are correct. This will result in the client getting close to $8,000 in back paid entitlements. If you need help with dealing with Centrelink please get in touch with us.
17.01.2022 While most people will be focused on the Race that stops the nation. The Reserve Bank has reduced interest rates to 0.1%. Hopefully, the government moves quickly to adjust the deeming rates inline with this. To help those who are not getting much in return on their cash in the bank
14.01.2022 We were recently engaged by a client to review her currently Centrelink entitlements. She was happy with her current Age Pension but wondered if she was getting all that she was entitled to. Very quickly we found that she was not receiving a full age pension, and she should have been. This meant that she was losing out on approximately $3,500 per annum of Age Pension payments. We have referred her to a financial adviser in order for her to get the issue fixed. This has cost her over $15,000 over the last 5 years. Enough for her to buy a new car. When was the last time you or your parents reviewed their entitlements? For this client, it was over a 9 x return on our fee for reviewing her situation in the first 12 months. Not a bad return in anyone's book especially when things are getting tougher
12.01.2022 The federal budget doesn't have much for Pensioners with the exception of an additional two payments of $250 in December and March. People who receive the following benefits will also be entitled to this disability support pension, carer payment, family tax benefit, family tax benefit lump sum, double orphan pension, carer allowance, Commonwealth seniors health card, pensioner concession card and veteran card.
12.01.2022 Top five tips to stay at home as you age. 1. Homecare may, even if temporarily, defer the need to move into residential care. 2. You will require an ACAT assessment. 3. Family support may still be needed to manage and potentially deliver additional care where needed.... 4. The family home needs to be suitable for your needs. Home maintenance, renovations, or a home relocation might be required to ensure a safe and accessible environment. 5. The cost of home care may prove to be considerably higher than residential care. If you have any concerns about getting the paperwork done for a home care package or anything to do with Centrelink reach out.
10.01.2022 We are often asked why would we engage you when we can manage the whole process ourselves. We have come across a number of occasions where Centrelink have not got it correct, and not just by a little bit. One mistake we found recently Centrelink had made a $350,000 mistake on a clients account. This caused a huge amount of stress for our client and her partner. There was once a joke that when you take a claim form at Centrelink you make as well take a complain form as well. I...n 2017/2018 Centrelink had 253,752 pieces of feedback, of these 236,563 were complaints! https://www.transparency.gov.au//part-4-custom/41-customer
08.01.2022 Meredith came to us recently as she was struggling with applying for the age pension, she has two investment properties which were currently sitting empty and listed for sale. She had all the ongoing expenses which go along with the properties and no income. Due to the properties, she needed help applying for the Age Pension, and while we took as a while to get all the documentation she required from the banks, we eventually got the claim lodged over the weekend. On Wednesday... morning, as things were tight and she had limited cash flow and minimal reserves we escalated the claim with Centrelink. While they initially said that they could not expedite payment we persisted, and they agreed to escalate the claim. Within eight hours of escalating with Centrelink, her age pension was approved. This means she now has cash flow and can pay the bills. It also means that she can reduce the level of support she has been receiving from her sons. This is a great win for Meredith and her family. It alleviates some of the financial stress and burden that she was feeling. If you need help with applying for the age pension or dealing with Centrelink in any manner please reach out. You can get in touch via [email protected], visit www.pensionservices.com.au or phone us.
06.01.2022 One of the questions we get asked regularly is how much can I have in assets before I get a full pension or part pension. We have explained the assets test in the following blog post. https://www.pensionservices.com.au/assets-test/
05.01.2022 This week is National Carer's Week. Ther are over 2.65 million Australians who provide care and support to a family member or friend with a disability, mental health condition, chronic condition, terminal illness, or who are frail aged. This often impacts a carer financially. There is support available through the Carer's allowance and also the Carer's Payment. Many carers potentially miss out on these or get bogged down in the paperwork.... If you know a Carer who is not claiming either of these get them to get in touch with us, as between now and the end of October we are offering $110 off any of our fees to process these claims.
05.01.2022 The Federal Budget will be handed down at 7pm tonight. There are plenty of rumours of what will be included but will Seniors be looked after? We will have all the answers after 7pm tonight
05.01.2022 While indexation will not apply to payments this week because CPI is negative it looks like there could be a payment in the budget. We will bring the official news when it comes to hand in two weeks.
05.01.2022 If you know someone who is currently getting Jobkeeper, as of later this week they could be eligible for Jobseeker as well. If they are having trouble with the application get them to contact us.
03.01.2022 We recently had a client who has significant wealth, they asked us if it was worthwhile completing the Centrelink Paperwork for Aged Care entry (SA486). We did some calculations, and although once her home has been sold she will have to pay the maximum in aged care fees; in the interim she will be able to save approximately $70 per day. We expect this will be able to be backdated to June when she first entered care. While the client’s house is currently on the market, and it ...may be another couple of months before settlement occurs, we estimate that by completing the forms now the client will save over $10,000 in fees already paid, and at least another $3-$5,000 going forward. If you know someone who is struggling with Aged Care paperwork, and you would like to reduce the stress at this already trying time, then please get in touch with us.
