16.01.2022 When I was driving back from Hughenden a few weeks ago I spied the abandoned Cape River Meat Works and pulled over for a squiz. It looked like a place that need...ed a return visit. I found out who owned it, got permission to go there and took a couple of medical students along for company and also for an opportunistic photo shoot. It was an eerie adventure and there were a couple of turns that took us to spots where we were a little worried that a serial killer might pop out and end us I am very happy with the end results and would love to hear from people who worked there and could talk me through what the spaces were used for.
16.01.2022 92 years ago today, the first Flying Doctor flight took off from Cloncurry, Queensland. In its inaugural year, the RFDS treated 225 patients. Today, the RFDS he...lps over 1000 people every day, delivered through a network of aircraft, road vehicles and telehealth services across Australia. As we navigate through a global/national health pandemic, where the pace of change is ever increasing, the vision of our founder, John Flynn, to deliver a mantle of safety for rural and remote Australians remains just as relevant as it did in 1928. Recent months have seen all parts of the RFDS working frantically to ready ourselves to deal with a once-in-a-century pandemic. During this time, the importance of our deep links with rural and remote communities is more evident than ever. The same communities that have sold cakes, knitted teddies and passed the hat to raise money in support of the RFDS in the past, can now take comfort that the RFDS will be there for them during this heightened time of need. 92 years on, and we are still providing a mantle of safety for Australians and we think that that is a legacy worth celebrating!

The news of Geoff Tancred's passing sparked a memory of the Pentland Hotel for Marie Stevens, which she has shared: "The goat hitched a ride from Amara Station unbeknown to the two families. We stopped at the pub on the way to Hughenden. The goat got out from under the cattle truck and decided to tap dance down the bar knocking over all the drinks and ash trays from one end to the other. ... We couldn't catch it so left without it. On the return trip we pulled in and someone mentioned "the goat", a stray, that regularly visited the pub. None of the Adults admitted knowing that damn goat." Thanks for sharing, Marie.
