25.01.2022 For the event, our Gold Sponsor, Peninsula Vet Care is setting up a checkpoint at their Mount Eliza clinic for the MY Mount Eliza Virtual Run & Fun Festival. S...top by if you are out getting active in the area between 9:30am to 12pm for free goodies! Peninsula Vet Care is a local, family-owned business who supported us at the MY Mount Eliza Fun Run in 2019. Having seen the amount of community engagement, they generously decided to be involved again this year. You’ll find their vet clinics in Rye, Rosebud, Dromana, Mornington, and Mount Eliza and have looked after Peninsula pets for over 40 years. Remember to register for this event at www.mymounteliza.org.au #sponsored #peninsulavetcare #sponsormessage #mountelizapets #morningtonpeninsulapets #petsofinstagram #familyevent #communityevent
24.01.2022 Dr Kate had an unusual surgical case at Peninsula Vet Care Dromana this month! She is pictured here holding 'Mr Darcy', the adorable dwarf lop rabbit who came in for castration. Normally this is a simple procedure, but Mr Darcy had a slight problem in that one of his testicles was missing! An exploratory surgery was required to find it hiding in his abdomen. We call this an 'abdominal cryptorchid' testicle, and this is extremely rare in rabbits with the surgery being more complex. Luckily, Mr Darcy's surgery was successful, the 'missing item' was retrieved and he has made a full recovery. Well done Mr Darcy!
23.01.2022 Peninsula Vet Care were delighted to be involved in the MYMtEliza Virtual Fun Run/Dog Walk/Cycle held throughout the Mornington Peninsula on Sunday the 27th of September. The event was postponed from March due to COVID 19, and involved an entirely different scenario of participants walking, running, cycling within 5km of home and checking in at different locations on the Peninsula. The aim is to raise money for an amazing charity called Snowdome who research and trial treatments for blood borne cancers such as multiple myeloma. The event was organised by a Mt Eliza dad Geoff Nyssen who is undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma. It was great to see so many people (and dogs!) supporting the event. 23.01.2022 HAPPY VET NURSE DAY! Please join us in thanking the incredible nurses of Peninsula Vet Care for Vet Nurse Day! Our nurses play such an important role in the care and treatment of our patients and we could not do it without them!
22.01.2022 Recently our team at East Mornington were treated to puppy cuddles which are always a highlight of the day! They were visited by a litter of 7 Heeler puppies who were in for their first check-ups and vaccinations. Vaccinations are extremely important as they protect our dogs against potentially deadly diseases such as Distemper, Parvovirius and Hepatitis. We recommend all puppies have their first vaccination at 6-8 weeks of age. We are still offering important preventative services such as vaccinations during COVID-19 restrictions so feel free to give us a call to book an appointment.
20.01.2022 We are joining forces with the charity Story Dogs to raise much needed funds and increase awareness of how these dogs are changing our children’s lives in the classroom. A $120 donation gives one child a whole year of one on one reading sessions with their furry companion. Please drop into any of our clinics this Friday 7th May to make a donation and meet a story dog. These magical helpers are in short supply across the Mornington Peninsula and we need your help to increase these hard working volunteers.
20.01.2022 Don't forget, tomorrow we are raising money for Story Dogs. Come and visit and make a donation, or click on the link below: https://www.givenow.com.au/crowdrai/public/peninsulavetcare
19.01.2022 BEWARE OF SNAKES! It was about this time last year when our clinics treated the first snake bite case for the summer, so we thought we would post a reminder on how to help keep yourself and your pets safe coming into summer. Snakes are attracted to food and water sources and safe, quiet places to hide. Try to make your backyard less appealing to snakes by keeping your grass cut low and your property clear of objects where snakes may be able to hide (e.g. wood piles or piles o...f rubbish) If you are walking your dog close to bushland, especially near water in the warmer months, you should keep your dog on a lead and avoid long grassy areas. It is also best to walk your dog in the cool of the morning, before the day warms up. If snakes are common in your area you could consider building a snake proof fence around your property. To ensure your cats safety, it is best to keep it inside with access to a snake proof outdoor enclosure. Daniel at the Victorian Dog Training Academy offers snake avoidance training. More information can be found on the website. If you think your pet has been bitten by a snake, it is vital you bring them to the vet immediately. Some pets will appear ill, drool, vomit and collapse others will not. Cases of snakebite can look perfectly normal up until the pet collapses and suddenly dies. Each of our clinics have snake antivenom that does not require a correct snake identification, it works against the common species of snake in Victoria. You do not need to identify the species of snake or interact with them, so please don’t endanger yourself trying to get the snake, they are best left alone. Stay safe everyone!
18.01.2022 Last Friday, Peninsula Vet Care turned orange to increase awareness and raise much needed funds for the charity Story Dogs. If you haven’t heard of Story Dogs, it is a literacy program which gives children the opportunity to practice reading to a calm and friendly canine companion. Dogs make ideal reading companions because their accepting and loving nature helps children to relax and engage in the process. They also don’t judge, laugh or criticise and allow children to proceed at their own pace. The Story Dogs are changing children’s lives in the classroom and your donations are ensuring that this highly beneficial program keeps running. So, thank you to everyone who came into Peninsula Vet Care on Friday to make a donation. Your support is greatly appreciated!
16.01.2022 Who has tried this training trick? We want to see your videos!
15.01.2022 It is true that some dogs will eat almost anything...and gorgeous Huxley is no exception! He came to visit our East Mornington team recently after eating a sock! Luckily his very diligent owners were straight onto it and brought him in right away so our team could administer some medication to make him vomit. Thankfully we had success and were able to get him to bring up the sock and avoid a potentially life threatening obstruction. Although he was feeling a little bit sheepish afterwards he enjoyed some extra TLC from the team!
15.01.2022 Ziggy is helping the Rosebud team at reception with some last minute bookings before the public holiday tomorrow. He says go cats! 14.01.2022 How cute is Kora and her family, relaxing in reception at Dromana COVID style!
09.01.2022 Over the years our feline adoption program has successfully re-homed hundreds of stray or abandoned kittens and cats. We began the program back in 2006 to assist with the feline over population problem that was apparent in the community. Our goal was to desex both adult cats who had already had kittens, to prevent them from becoming pregnant again and desex kittens before they were put up for adoption. The good news is that the number of stray cats and kittens has significant...ly reduced each year since 2006, meaning that, in a small way we feel we have helped contribute to the feline over population problem but also helped to enrich the lives of the cats and kittens who found forever homes. Toby is just one of those kittens who was adopted by Lisa from our Dromana clinic nearly 7 years ago, when he was just four months old. Lisa tells us that she is so thankful to have Toby in her life and for that he is treated like a king. Lucky Toby! See more
08.01.2022 Pictured below are before and after photographs showing patients mouths that have had a dental scale and polish at Peninsula Vet Care. You can see how amazing the difference is! Dental disease is a very common finding in pets, and can cause bad breath, oral pain and reduced quality of life. Dental cleans are performed at all our clinics and we have gold standard equipment & monitoring including dental radiographs which help us assess the extent of the disease. If you have any questions about your own pet's dental health, please give your local Peninsula Vetcare a call.
06.01.2022 Spring has Sprung! Spring is prime time for young birds to be leaving their nest for the first time. If you come across a baby bird, in most cases, it will be a fledgling learning to fly and just like riding a bike there will be a few falls before they get it right! But don’t worry, mum and dad will be near by watching over. In some instances however, the baby bird may be in danger or may be injured and needs your help. So how do you know when to intervene and when to leave... the bird alone to reunite with their family? See below for advice on what to do at each stage of a birds development. Note: Injured birds may also be brought into any Peninsula Vet Care clinic for an examination and treatment free of charge. See more
05.01.2022 Murphy was in at our Rye clinic recently for his first weigh in since starting his weight loss program. He has lost weight and gained energy, finding it easier to chase after his frisbee! If your pet has also gained a few kg’s during COVID, speak to your local Peninsula Vet Care weight loss nurse who can help support you and your pet with a personalised weight loss plan.
02.01.2022 Keira is a beautiful Cavoodle who came down to see Dr Kate at Peninsula Vet Care Dromana to have her ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) repaired. The ACL is one of the key ligaments that helps to stabilise the knee joint. Rupture of the ACL is a very common injury in dogs (as with footballers) and requires surgical stabilisation to reduce arthritis build up and prevent lameness in the future. Unfortunately, this was Keira's second ACL rupture; she had surgery on her other back leg a year earlier. ACL surgery for Keira involved stabilising the knee with a new, artificial ligament called a 'tightrope’. Surgery went very well and Keira is making a speedy recovery at home! Luckily, there are only ACL’s in the hindlimbs, so this should be her last operation! Well done Keira on being such a brave and cuddly patient for our team!
