25.01.2022 Mondays PATHWA food service was again well attended with over 120 people joining us for a meal of pumpkin soup, shepherds pie and vegetables, as well as salad ...and coleslaw. Thanks to Betty-Jane, Anke, Mike, Bernice, Julie and Carol for preparing another wonderful meal and to Lisa, Diana and Susan for helping with the service. This meal would not be possible without the support of our food suppliers SecondBite and West Coast Meats - thanks again for your support. Thanks also to Lawleys Bakery Cafe for the sandwiches and savoury & sweet pastries. Last Monday also saw the last service for our fabulous cooking team who are taking a break for a while. To Betty, Anke, Patti and Bernice, thank you for your commitment and generosity in providing your time, energy and compassion to PATHWA and more importantly, to Perths most vulnerable. You have shown that providing delicious, nutritious and wholesome home cooked meals in large numbers to Perths homeless is possible, and in doing so have provided an opportunity for those most disadvantaged in our community to come together and be treated with dignity and respect for this you should be proud. You will be missed. To all our PATHWA community members, if you are looking to get involved in a front line community service, and help us to continue to provide food to the Perth homeless community, please get in touch.

24.01.2022 It was a cold and wet for last nights PATHWA food service. As well as gaining some respite from the cold weather, our guests were provided with a wholesome me...al consisting of pea and ham soup, roast chicken, roast pork, mash potato, carrots & peas, a vegetable frittata, roasted potatoes and a garden salad. Thanks to our fabulous volunteers Betty-Jane, Anke, Patti and Mike for preparing a great meal. Big thanks also to our food supporters SecondBite, Soul Link and Food Rescue for providing the ingredients, and to Lawley's Bakery for the pastries which always bring a welcome smile from our guests. Thanks also to our dedicated volunteers Zachary, Deanne, Anne and Everton for the room preparation, food service and packing away.

23.01.2022 Despite the best laid plans of mice and men, it was a different PATHWA service on Monday night, with our volunteers having to adapt to changed circumstances. Ne...vertheless we were able to provide savoury & sweet pastries and bread from the back of two cars to our welcome friends. Thanks to Lawleys Bakery Cafe for the food - without who we wouldnt have been able to provide a service at all. Thanks to Betty-Jane, Patti and Bernice for the prep work. Big thanks to Mike, Anne, Everton and Deanne for persisting with the service. . See more

23.01.2022 Our volunteers are at Bunnings Midland today raising funds for our organisation. The money we raise today will go towards providing good quality, healthy food to those doing it tough and experiencing homelessness in Perth. If youre in Midland today please pop in and say hello, and buy a snag!

21.01.2022 A busy night at the PATHWA food service at UnitingCare Wests Tranby Centre last night with a full house, a wheel clamping and a reminder that those who we try ...to help are often facing extreme struggles. Another great meal was prepared by Betty-Jane Ruthven, Anke and Carol - a delicious potatoe pie with roast veggies. FoodRescue and Lawley's Bakery Cafe Mt Lawley provided the pies, sausage rolls, sandwiches and sweet pastries, while Mike prepared his sausage sizzle. Thanks to SecondBite for the fresh fruit and veggies which were popular as usual. Thanks to Micaela from Relish Gourmet for all the yummy treats delivered and distributed by Garry and Jenny - they were a big hit with all. Thanks also to Emma from Morph Salon for providing the hairdressing service - which made a great transformation for some - and was greatly appreciated. Thanks to all our volunteers on the night - Lisa, Diana, Mike, Anke, Betty, Carol, Garry, Jenny and Emma.

20.01.2022 Perth MP John Carey says the solution will group mobile homelessness providers in the one location, rather than all over the city.

20.01.2022 It was a wet night for this weeks PATHWA service, so very grateful that we were able to provide some respite to many rough sleepers who were also able to enjoy... a warm meal and some company. Our fantastic cooks Betty-Jane Ruthven, Anke and Carol prepared a wonderful potato pie and roast vegies while Mike Beach cooked up the sausage sizzle. Thanks to Lisa Maree and Dani Bennett for picking up sandwiches, pies and pastries from our great supporter Lawley's Bakery Cafe Mt Lawley, and to SecondBite for the fresh fruit and vegetables. Diana May and Samantha Pace were on hand to help serve up the sausage sizzle and hand out the greatly appreciated fresh food. Special thanks to Anke for last weeks FoodBank purchases and to Di for her continued efforts in raising funds to pay for food and the security services. As you can see, a lot of time and effort from many people goes into providing our food service, but those who come along often get much more. This week, we saw a great gesture from one of our guests, Steve. Steve lost his job a few months ago and became homeless. Despite this, and with some help, Steve kept pursuing work. Yesterday, Steve was given a trial start with a local company, and to get ready for his start on Monday, went out and bought some work boots, which he had with him last night, as well as the shoes on his feet. One of our other guests came in without shoes, so Steve decided to share his good fortune and gave up his shoes. This just goes to show that generosity resides in all of us, even those who dont have much to give. See more

17.01.2022 This week is National Homelessness Week. This week is about raising awareness of people experiencing homelessness, the issues they face and the action needed to reach solutions to homelessness in Australia. Take this week to have a conversation with someone who is homeless, learn their story and find out how you can make a difference

14.01.2022 PATHWA is an incorporated not for profit community organisation that provides food and support to people living on the streets and those at risk of homelessness. We receive no government funding, with 100% of all donations going towards funding our services. We provide a new food service on Monday evenings at the Tranby Centre in East Perth where those experiencing homelessness can come to feel safe and receive a warm home cooked meal and other provisions to sustain them for ...a little while. We have recently started providing a hairdressing service which is very well received. While we receive great support from SecondBite, Lawleys Bakery Cafe and FoodRescue who all donate food. However, we also have costs of approximately $200 per week to run the service. At present, our volunteers contribute funding, which is supplemented by selling donated household items online. We are often asked how people can help. Donated food and goods to sell online are always welcome. At the urging of some community members, we have started an initiative where, those that would like to, can donate $1 per week set up as a direct debit. We are aiming to get 200 donators which would cover our basic weekly costs. Donations can be made to: PATHWA INC. BSB 036-022. ACCOUNT 474092 If you would like to help in some other way or get further information, please contact us through our Facebook page or email address. 09.01.2022 Just a little reminder of how you can help.

09.01.2022 We were very lucky to receive a kind donation from the owner of The Painted Workshop, a very stylish shop in Kelmscott. They held a Christmas function and auction in December and chose PATHWA as the beneficiary. A reminder that the wider community really care about those less fortunate. If you havent visited her shop its a wonderland of beautiful things. Thank you so much for thinking of us. https://www.facebook.com/thepaintedworkshopperth/

04.01.2022 Myself and Paul Gale founded PATHWA in January this year and we have been very pleased and encouraged with its success so far in supporting those less fortunate. One of my main functions is as fundraiser. Our food service costs approximately $200 to run every Monday, despite a lot of the food being donated, which we cover in a variety of ways. To sustain this we need the support of our followers. How can you help?... 1. Donations can be made of furniture, general household items and bric-a -brac, (not clothes or books). These items I sell online and those I can't sell are donated to my local op shops. Items can be collected depending on distance. Left-over items from garage sales have been a good source of income. 2. A great way to help for is to set up a $1 a week donation through your bank. Our bank details are PATHWA Inc, BSB 036 022 ACCT 474092. Other monetary donations can be made through this account. 3. Donations can be made of dry food staples. For example rice, pasta, tins of tomatoes & bottles of cordial. If you require any further information, pm me or email [email protected] Thank you for your on-going support.

Thanks also to Dani for picking up the Lawleys Café Mt Lawley food. A big thanks to couple of new members of the PATHWA team in James and Sonja, for answering the call at short notice to come down and help with the serving, with Anne, Everton and Garry Jackson also on hand to serve up the sausage sizzle, fresh fruit and veggies, and the pastries and sandwiches kindly supplied by Lawleys Bakery Cafe Mt Lawley and FoodRescue.

01.01.2022 A Little Known Robin Williams Story: Years ago I learned a very cool thing about Robin Williams, and I couldnt watch a movie of his afterward without thinking of it. I never actually booked Robin Williams for an event, but I came close enough that his office sent over his rider. For those outside of the entertainment industry, a rider lists out an artists specific personal and technical needs for hosting them for an event- anything from bottled water and their green room ...to sound and lighting requirements. You can learn a lot about a person from their rider. This is where rocks bands list their requirement for green M&Ms (which is actually a surprisingly smart thing to do). This is also where a famous environmentalist requires a large gas-guzzling private jet to fly to the event city, but then requires an electric or hybrid car to take said environmentalist to the event venue when in view of the public. When I got Robin Williams rider, I was very surprised by what I found. He actually had a requirement that for every single event or film he did, the company hiring him also had to hire a certain number of homeless people and put them to work. I never watched a Robin Williams movie the same way after that. Im sure that on his own time and with his own money, he was working with these people in need, but hed also decided to use his clout as an entertainer to make sure that production companies and event planners also learned the value of giving people a chance to work their way back. I wonder how many production companies continued the practice into their next non-Robin Williams project, as well as how many people got a chance at a job and the pride of earning an income, even temporarily, from his actions. He was a great multiplier of his impact. Lets hope that impact lives on without him. Thanks, Robin Williams- not just for laughs, but also for a cool example.
