13.01.2022 "Plotting NSWs transition away from coal will be the subject of a parliamentary inquiry, including how the state can make the most of renewable energy supplies...." "The inquiry will also look into the impacts on regional communities from the current energy system. These will include the effects coal-fired power have on water supplies in a drought and the sectors wider impact on the environment and public health." As the scientific and medical communities are increasingly aware of the health impacts of fossil fuels (and of coal in particular), the NSW inquiry needs to take these public health risks seriously. New coal is fundamentally incompatible with a warming world, and is harmful to our climate and our health. If you want to be part of the movement to protect our climate and our health, consider joining or donating to support CAHAs work: https://www.caha.org.au/donate
13.01.2022 Unanimous resolution at ASU National Executive: "The Australian Services Union is proud to support the school strikers Global #ClimateStrike on September 20 an...d the young leaders who are demanding real and immediate action on climate change. The school strikers are everything that young Australians should be passionate, active and caring. For them climate change isnt a problem for another day, its something that will directly impact the rest of their lives. And these students arent just dreaming of changing the world, theyre going out and doing it. Weve always had the back of those fighting for a better future and always will. Thats why the ASU is calling on members and workers to support the school strikers Global #ClimateStrike by taking a day of leave to attend a #ClimateStrike rally on 20 September, organising a workplace solidarity selfie, or passing a workplace resolution in support of these young activists."

03.01.2022 Banks arent walking the talk on climate action. 33 global banks financed fossil fuels with $1.9 trillion since the Paris Agreement was adopted, led by JPMorga...n Chase, the worlds biggest banker of climate change by a wide margin. This is dangerously at odds with the steep cuts to emissions we need in order to keep the worlds warming to 1.5C, according to last years IPCC report. This 10th annual bank report card, "Banking on climate action" was published by Rainforest Action Network, BankTrack, Indigenous Environmental Network, Sierra Club, Oil Change International and Honor the Earth, and endorsed by more than 160 organizations around the world. This report focuses on the US. I wonder how Australian banks compare? Read more: https://www.ran.org/bankingonclimatechange2019/
