13.01.2022 What could be simpler than paying attention? It sounds so ridiculously simple when one tries to explain what mindfulness is. It’s the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. But practicing a simple thing in difficult circumstances is, well, no longer simple. Carefully folding the sails and coiling the rope while on the deck of a storm-tossed sailboat, with screami...ng winds and crashing waves, is decidedly difficult. And it’s a bit like practicing mindfulness in the midst of a global pandemic, raging environmental disasters, and an unprecedented political maelstrom. How do we, as Rudyard Kipling once said, keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you? How do we find equanimity and self-compassion when we feel overwhelmed at every turn? See more

11.01.2022 "The first three days were absolutely terrible. I was antsy. I felt nervous and lost when walking through downtown, consistently thinking the worst of what people thought of me or just even sitting in a coffee shop without my phone in my hand just made me feel out of place and not with it. I’d laugh to myself because again, it’s just a stupid phone, it’s just a stupid app on my phone, why was it so vital to my every day life? I couldn’t handle it, I couldn’t handle being in public without hiding myself from the outside world. I needed to replace my social media habit with something else." Could you live without your phone and social media? Have a read of this and let us know what you think.

11.01.2022 Vertigo refers to a type of dizziness that gives you the sensation that you or the world around you is spinning. It isn’t a medical condition but a symptom of other conditions that range from viral infections to the formation of calcium carbonate crystals in your inner ear. About 5 percent of Aadults experience vertigo, and many people notice it when they’re feeling stressed or anxious. Even though stress doesn’t directly cause vertigo, it can contribute to dysfunction of the part of your inner ear that controls balance, called your vestibular system.

11.01.2022 The truth is: Everyone experiences stress, especially during a pandemic. While there’s research to support that some of the stress response is genetic and, in too many cases, results from traumatic life experiences in the form of PTSD much of the everyday stress that most people are dealing with contains an element of choice in how one responds. And these decisions around stress can make a big difference in the long-term.

10.01.2022 The negative effects of over-parenting on children are well documented. Research shows it can lead to psychological distress, narcissism, poor adjustment, alcohol and drug use and a host of other behavioral problems in young adults ages 18 to 25. But why do some parents teach their children to fish and others feed their children fish? Helicopter mums and dads hover over their childrentaking care of tasks children could do themselves such as cooking, cleaning, or paying bill...sremoving obstacles, solving problems or overseeing every aspect of a child’s life. But why are some parents driven to overly focus on their kids? Could the perfection and anxiety that makes some employees top-notch workers backfire when they employ those same tactics to parenting? And could your own career success that you want for your children do more harm than good? See more

10.01.2022 Living with anxiety is much more than simply feeling concerned or stressed. An anxiety disorder is a medical condition characterised by persistent and excessive worry. Examples include panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. 08.01.2022 Social media has become increasingly common with an estimated 3.6 billion users worldwide, and that number is projected to grow to almost 4.5 billion by 2025. And even though social media has fundamentally altered how we communicate with one another, scientists are still researching potential health implications, especially for mental health. However, evidence indicates that social media may contribute to depressive symptoms, especially amongst younger populations.
