24.01.2022 You still need your regular healthcare, despite COVID-19. Your family still needs the usual vaccinations, screening tests, age-related check ups, repeat prescriptions and treatment for short-term illnesses or chronic conditions. And we’re still committed to providing high-quality healthcare for you and your family. COVID-19 hasn’t changed that at all. It has changed our appointment process though. Face-to-face appointments are still offered in some cases but we’re treating... most patients through bulk-billed phone consultations. Telephone appointments protect both patients and staff and provide an effective way to dispense prescriptions, refer you to specialists, implement care plans or treat short-term illnesses. Read our blog to learn more about how your appointment may have changed, https://loom.ly/bCLRxJ4 #peregianfamilymedicalcentre #covid19 #appointments
23.01.2022 Welcome to the cold and flu season. This year, if you have a cough, a sniffle, a sore throat, a fever or any other symptoms of COVID-19, then you need to be tested. It’s most likely that you’re just suffering from a common cold but there’s no way to be sure it’s not COVID-19 without a test. Testing is offered at many locations across Queensland and results are usually available within a few days. Yes, it’s a bit of a nuisance to do this every time you have a cough or cold ...over the coming months. But it’s a vital part of getting back to normal. We’re only able to enjoy dining out, going to the gym or exploring Queensland because we’re keeping a lid on the virus through extensive testing. Here’s what you need to know about it. Read our blog to learn more about getting tested for COVID-19, https://loom.ly/AnZLHNM #covid19 #coronavirus #peregianfamilymedicalcentre #healthcare #gettingtested
23.01.2022 The days are getting hotter so we’re reminding you to look after your skin. That involves following Sun Smart advice to slip on clothing, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat, seek shade and slip on sunnies. One of the most important things you can do is to see your GP for an annual skin cancer check. While you should check your own skin regularly, your doctors are trained to look for skin abnormalities using certain tools and lenses to improve our vision. Rest assured that mos...t skin cancers are successfully treated, especially if they’re found early. Click here to read more on how we can help you care for your skin by enabling early identification, diagnosis and treatment of any skin cancer. 23.01.2022 Shifting your mindset is always hard. Right now, during cold and flu season, we all have to shift our mindset from ‘It’s just a cold’ to ‘I need to get a COVID test and stay home’. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose and fatigue. As you can see, these are very similar to the symptoms of a cold or the flu. Without a test, there’s no way to know which illness you have. Widespread testing is the best way we have to stay on top of COVID-19 while e...njoying eased restrictions. So, if you have any cold or flu symptoms, please stay at home until you are better and get a COVID-19 test. 21.01.2022 Anyone can get COVID-19 but those with compromised immune systems are at a greater risk of developing serious symptoms. Having a compromised immune system means a person has a reduced ability to fight and recover from infections and other diseases. Those with chronic health conditions, infants and the elderly are some of the people who often fall into this category.... As life continues to get back to normal and visiting family and friends becomes a regular occurrence it's important to still implement precautions. When visiting the immune-compromised you should: Not attend if you are experiencing any respiratory or infective symptoms Not attend if you have been in close contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 or currently awaiting results Practice social distancing save the hugs and kisses for later Wash your hands and maintain good hygiene Avoid visiting in large groups or in a group from multiple households. And remember, stay safe and do what you can to stop the spread. #peregianfamilymedicalcentre #peregianbeach #pfmc #doctor #selfquarantine #covid19 #immunecomprimised *All information is general in nature, patients should consider their own personal circumstances and seek a second opinion. 19.01.2022 Everything you swallow goes down your esophagus, the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. Some of your regular habits may irritate your esophagus, contributing to the risk of esophageal cancer. That includes things like smoking, hot drinks, alcohol and not enough fruit and veg. As with other cancers, it’s much easier to treat esophageal cancer successfully if it’s diagnosed early. Unfortunately, esophageal cancer is often missed in the early stages. So, be on the ...lookout for symptoms like difficulty swallowing, new or increased heartburn, blood in your vomit or stool, and unexplained weight loss or fatigue. 11.01.2022 Postnatal depression was fairly common before COVID-19 but is definitely on the rise now. It’s very, very tough adjusting to a new baby when a global pandemic has disrupted your support networks. Most new mums ride the rollercoaster of the baby blues for a few days after their baby’s birth. Postnatal depression is more persistent. It affects some mums and dads when their baby is between 1 month and 1 year old. Symptoms include mood swings, anger, tearfulness, negative thought...s about yourself and increased anxiety. Postnatal depression can affect anyone but is more likely if you’ve had a difficult pregnancy or birth, have previously lost a child, or are experiencing other stressful life events (like a global pandemic!). Read on to learn more about risk factors, symptoms and treatment for postnatal depression and anxiety, https://loom.ly/dCpARTE *All information is general in nature. 08.01.2022 It's Breast Cancer Awareness month and a great reminder to get into the habit of regularly self-examining your breasts and if applicable, getting a mammogram as directed. To examine your breasts firmly palpate all your breast and armpits using 2 or 3 fingers, to inspect the area in a circular motion covering top to bottom and side to side. And if you notice any of the below signs book an appointment with your GP for a formal exam. #breastcancerawarenessmonth #breastcancer #cancer #womenshealth #breastlump #gp #breastcancerawarenessmonth2020 #peregianfamilymedicalcentre

02.01.2022 Did you know that each year women visit their GP more than men do? This is despite the fact that males experience a greater share of the total disease burden compared to females*. At Peregian, we are very driven to promote healthy lifestyles for men. Which is why we are happy to say we now have 3 male GPs available Monday to Friday. Because sometimes you just want to see a male doctor about male health concerns.... 01.01.2022 Most of us know that exercise has many physical health benefits like maintaining your weight, lowering the risk of chronic disease and improving joint pain and stiffness. But exercise also has a profoundly positive impact on your mental health as well, such as improving self-esteem, reducing anxiety and depression. So how much exercise should you actually be doing? The Australian National Exercise Guidelines suggest that at a minimum you should do 2.5hrs of moderate-intensi...ty activity, or 1.5 hours of high-intensity activity a week. But ideally, the average, healthy person should be doing much more than this. If you're unable to achieve this they also recommend doing at least 10,000 steps a day and minimise your sitting time. Is something holding you back from daily exercise? Book an appointment and talk to your GP about how you can improve your overall health here, https://loom.ly/Z6UkcYo #peregianfamilymedical #pfmc #jointpain #dailyexercise #exercise #healthy #weight #getfit #gp #medicalcentre Source: https://loom.ly/QJ0l-PE *All information is general in nature, patients should consider their own personal circumstances and seek a second opinion.
