24.01.2022 Peregian Kindy proudly supports Reconciliation Australia National Reconciliation Week 2020 - In This Together. The children have engaged in ideas around reconciliation, developing a further understanding of the wonderfully rich Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander cultures. They have thoroughly enjoyed their learning and craft activities - making hearts to show that they care "Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians as individuals, families, communities, org...anisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We strive towards a more just, equitable nation by championing unity and mutual respect as we come together and connect with one another. On this journey, Australians are all In This Together; every one of us has a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures." #NRW2020 #InThisTogether2020

23.01.2022 A special visitor, Sherida from @coolumcoastcare, to teach us about the turtles that visit to lay their eggs at Peregian Beach. One of the important reasons that we don't use plastic straws, glitter and balloons at Kindy and have dramatically reduced purchases of plastic in general. Did you know that food wrappers have a lifespan of up to 30 years in the ocean?! Plastic bottles could stay in our waterways for up to 1000 years! The children loved not only learning about the tu...rtles but about how to protect their environment. . . . . #peregianbeach #peregianbeachkindy #peregiankindyfamilies #coolumcoastcare #loggerheadturtle #sunshinecoastkids See more

13.01.2022 COVID-19 has brought change to every part of our lives. For most of us, it’s been challenging. Health concerns, home schooling, isolation, cancelled events, not seeing friends and family and of course the toilet tissue issue. Sadly, some families have lost loved ones. And many parents are concerned about long-term effects of the pandemic on the economy and their family’s financial security. Infant and child psychologists and psychiatrists from the Queensland Centre for Pe...rinatal and Infant Mental Health and Children’s Health Queensland and researchers from several Australian universities, have launched COVID-19 Unmasked. This online study will help build a picture of how COVID-19 and other recent disruptive events have affected young children, their parents, and family life. They hope to gather a wealth of information to help us understand the types of responses that young children aged 1-5 years have so we can learn how to better support their mental health and emotional wellbeing now and into the future following other stressful events. This knowledge will help parents, educators, health services and other professionals respond more effectively when events like this happen. If you’d like more information about the study please contact Dr Alexandra De Young at the Queensland Centre for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health on [email protected] or 07 3266 3100. Also, have you have you heard about our Birdie’s Tree resources? They are freely available online to help support young children through natural disasters (https://www.childrens.health.qld.gov.au/natural-disaster-r/ or Google ‘Birdie’s Tree’). ‘Birdie and the Virus’ has recently been launched to support families in the specific context of the COVID-19 pandemic (https://www.childrens.health.qld.gov.au/covid-19-birdie-vi/) North Coast Region Early Childhood Education and Care Department of Education
