20.01.2022 Johnson & Johnsons false, misleading, and dangerous marketing campaigns have caused exponentially increasing rates of addiction [and] overdose deaths. Doctor...s (including me) were brainwashed to prescribe high-strength painkillers, believing them to be safe and effective. Opioid makers colluded to create the illusion of an epidemic of untreated pain, which created the surge in opioid prescribing I witnessed as a medical student and junior doctor. The practice of medicine in the US and also in the UK has become an industry with corporations wielding considerable influence over medical policy and the provision of treatment. Im very grateful to have graduated from a small, independent family medicine training program with wise physician faculty who modeled rigorous standards for opioid prescribing.
