16.01.2022 WRIST PAIN? Do you suffer from pain in your wrists/elbows that is impacting on your work, whilst at the gym or social outings such as dancing? Wrist and elbow pain can be debilitating, with some of the most common diagnoses we see are tennis and golfer elbow, tendinosis and TFCC injuries. ... Here are a few simple stretches that may help. Start slow and gradually increase your tolerance. And dont forget to load/strengthen your wrists also for long lasting results. If pain persists see the expert Physiotherapists at Perform Better Physiotherapy for an accurate assessment and treatment plan.

15.01.2022 CLIENT SUCCESS STORY!! READ UNTIL THE END! This is Amanda - she presented to Perform Better Physiotherapy frustrated, exhausted and lost. Having been dealing with chronic lower back pain for over 10 years and during that time consulted many doctors, specialists and other allied health professionals hoping to get an answer for a pain that was debilitating and severely impacting on her life. Unfortunately Amanda was met with scepticism, pain medication, xrays, ct scans and ne...gative attitudes by the professionals she entrusted to help her. Specialists even told her to never lift anything over 5kg and do not bend or twist at the risk of causing further damage. This only compounded her worry and anxieties. Everyday tasks became a stressful activity and as a young mother the advice she had received was destroying her confidence, impacting on her ability to do her job, and be present as a mother and a wife. On our first consultation, we began to address these fears and concerns, aiming to instil hope in a brighter and more positive future. We did this through a combination of psychological tools such as acceptance and exposure therapy as well as a graded exercise program. In the first video I challenged Amanda’s long held belief that she should not lift more than 5kg by asking her to lift a 6kg kettlebell. It was the beginning of a long process that involved facilitating a movement and strength philosophy as well as Amanda recognising that her spine and lower back were indeed not fragile and she was more capable than she thought. Fast forward 3.5 months to the 2nd video and you will see Amanda lifting a MASSIVE 60KG x 4 REPS. I Not only is she stronger physically, she is stronger mentally, displaying a more positive outlook on her life and her future. She is in more control, does not let pain control her and has a newfound confidence in herself. Thank you for putting your trust in me Amanda. It has been a pleasure assisting you in your own recovery and I can't wait to see where this journey takes you!

12.01.2022 ACL CONSERVATIVE REHAB PART 1 With the growing body of research indicating that some people can 'cope' after ACL rupture without the need for surgery, it is imperative we as physiotherapists continue educate our clients and ourselves on all options. In a study by Thoma et al 2019, they concluded that if given the opportunity, not rushed to surgery and given at least 3 months of a progressive rehab plan patients can cope in their lives without an ACL. ... Here we have Alex completing his rehab 4 months post ACL rupture. Alex wanted to avoid surgery and was willing to work hard at his rehab and is managing quite well in his day to day life. Final thought. Dont be quick to rule your clients out and the need for surgery straight away. If they do decide for surgery later on, their chance of recovery will be far greater with a solid 3-4 months rehab behind them.
