20.01.2022 'Requiem to a mate' (John Queripel). From the album 'Oh Africa' (1993). Written about an old folk singer and trade unionist Harry Anderson, who I never met, but about whom I heard many stories.

18.01.2022 'Monday Morning' (John Queripel). From the album 'Oh Africa' (1993). Written in Wollongong (Australia) during a 'recession we had to have.' The poor keep paying the price of economic policy.

16.01.2022 'They're mad and we're not.' (John Queripel). From the album 'Seditious Intent.' We of course are the only ones sane enough to have 'the bomb.' Everyone else we conveniently classify as 'mad.' But is anyone who contemplates using the bomb sane?

13.01.2022 'Winter's here to stay' (John Queripel). From the album 'Oh Africa' (1993). Cold mornings, warm bed and the struggle to get up from it and face the new day's demands.

03.01.2022 'Shall I not rage?' (John Queripel). From the album 'Oh Africa' (1993). The island of Negros in the Philippines. Sugar is king and dominates the island but suddenly the bottom falls out of the price of sugar as Coke and Pepsi change to glucose. Unable to sell their product rich landlords have no intention of bearing the pain themselves but pass it on to the poor who they squeeze ever tighter. Rebellion is met by militarisation and children in cardboard coffins are one of the results.

01.01.2022 'Romero, Martyr of El Salvador' (John Queripel). From the album 'Oh Africa' (1993). This conservative elevated to become the Archbishop of El Salvador changed his to become a fearless defender of his people. His outspoken leadership brought his martyrdom 24 March1980 assassinated by the oligarchs while saying Mass. This song picks up some of his words.
