16.01.2022 A couple of months ago I published a blog (GAB56) http://www.sashagrishin.com//gab-56-grishins-art-blog-numb and a related piece in The Conversation https://t...heconversation.com/friday-essay-amid-a-war-on-cult that art schools were under threat and some workshops, like Printmaking and precious metalwork, were facing extinction. Yesterday distressing news reached me that Griffith University that incorporates the Queensland College of the Arts proposes to withdraw specialisations/majors in Jewellery and Small Objects, Print, Advertising Photography and documentary photography as well as rationalizing course offerings in Art Theory. This is catastrophic. QCA is the most important centre for printmaking north of Sydney and its closure will be a body blow for printmaking nationally. Time to write to the VC Carolyn Evans [email protected] pointing out that this is a disastrously bad proposal and should be rejected. Artists should not be afraid to take a stand and make their voices heard. I suspect that if Printmaking at QCA (with such a long and illustrious tradition) is allowed to fold, this will embolden other universities to cut deep into their art schools. See more
