24.01.2022 "We very strongly felt that the build-up of tension from the bushfires, smoke and the hailstorm that preceeded COVID really fed into people's heightened sense of anxiety." Today, the final day of Perinatal Mental Health Week you can read more from Dr Yvonne Luxford, our CEO in The Canberra Times, via the link below. https://www.canberratimes.com.au//after-giving-birth-ken/

24.01.2022 The people who love you and your baby are there for you, and if you feel like it's time to look outside the village for support *hands up* we're ready to talk! Feeling resentful of the huge changes in your life and the new responsibilities you have is a normal part of parenting. It can be difficult to know what your limit is, but when that resentment becomes more frequent or more consuming, it's time to speak up and seek help. You can call the Perinatal Wellbeing Centre on 02 62881936 during business hours to speak to our team, and you can find out more about all of the programs we're providing to help you through what you're feeling.

It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded.... 19.01.2022 Yumalundi! "We, gathered at the 2017 National Constitutional Convention, coming from all points of the southern sky, make this statement from the heart..." these words open the Uluru Statement from the Heart, an invitation from First Nations people for structural reform including constitutional change. Structural reform means establishing a new relationship between First Nations and the Australian nation based on justice and self-determination where Indigenous cultures and pe...oples can flourish, and we all move forward. Whether you are familiar with the Statement or learning about it for the first time, we invite you to take time today to visit ulurustatement.org and read the Statement in full. It is moving, humbling, thought provoking and inspiring as we continue to reach for a better Australia for all who live and love this land. #ulurustatement #alwayswasalwayswillbe #NAIDOCweek2020

10.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. Yumalundi! Along with being Perinatal Mental Health Week 2020, this week we are also celebrating and reflecting on #NAIDOCweek2020. We love the artwork @naidocweek have released, and these beautiful words from their website explaining the concept behind the artwork. "We are spiritually and culturally connected to this country. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Aust...ralia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. We built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Always Was, Always Will Be. acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future. Through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming we transformed the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty. NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Our coastal Nations watched and interacted with at least 36 contacts made by Europeans prior to 1770. Many of them resulting in the charting of the northern, western and southern coastlines of our lands and our waters. For us, this nation’s story began at the dawn of time." 10.01.2022 It seems like the digital space is dominated by stress, sadness and worry these days. This is your reminder to amplify the loving voices of kindness not just when speaking to the people around you, but also when speaking to yourself. a lot of us think things about ourselves we’d never dare say to someone else. Today is your day, take a moment to think about which voice you use to talk to yourself: is she kind, patient, understanding and encouraging? You deserve that! #mentalhealth #selflove #selfesteem #motivation Gorgeous illustration by @shegotthepink

09.01.2022 A wonderful collaborative video from the team at Vinnies Canberra/Goulburn and students from University of Canberra.

09.01.2022 You might think 'relaxed' is your default, but once you get into the swing of parenthood relaxing can really take some practice! Lots of parents find it's difficult to 'switch off' once their baby arrives. Figure out the amount of time you can 'afford' each day (whether it's 5 or 25 minutes is up to you!) and find a comfortable position to sit... and breathe. Inhale deeply through your nose, taking in the energy of the world around you. ... Breathe out slowly through your mouth, releasing your worries into the air. Can't get into this new routine? Time to pull out that phone and set a calendar reminder! #motherhood #parenthood #mindfulness #mentalhealthmonth #totallynormalMHM #canberraparents #postnatalanxiety

07.01.2022 You are now officially starting the slide into the weekend! What will you do today to take care of yourself, while you're taking care of people you love? #motherhood #parenthood #selfcare #mentalhealth #aretheschoolholidaysoveryet #canberraparents Adorable illustration by @colormehappii

07.01.2022 Good luck with the tiny human wrangling, entertaining, feeding, loving, growing and soothing today everyone! Remember: your baby doesn't need you to be perfect, they just need you to be you

04.01.2022 Has there ever been a more relatable and comforting moment of Bluey than Lola's paw on Chilli's knee? We've got happy tears and we don't care who knows.

03.01.2022 This q reminds us of that familiar old saying: knowing the difference between the things you can and cannot control. It's totally normal to hold on tight to those routines that guide your life, but relaxing the rules and knowing which items on your to-do list can wait until tomorrow will give you a bit of breathing room once the baby arrives. #totallynormalMHM #mentalhealth #pregnancyadvice #motherhood #parenthood #canberralife #mentalhealthmonth

02.01.2022 Most people are surprised to know that around 1 in 20 men experience depression during their partner’s pregnancy (antenatal) and up to 1 in 10 new dads struggle with depression following the birth of their baby (postnatal). Anxiety is thought to be as common and many men experience anxiety and depression at the same time. It is important to know that help is available and the earlier help is sought the better the outcome for dad and the family.
