23.01.2022 We're having a planning session this Saturday for everyone that has stepped up to take on a volunteer role with our wondrous organisation. We will be using the permaculture design pattern to determine what aspects of the current model need to be treasured and carried forward, and what aspects could be improved. We'll also be doing some creative ideation to imagine new ideas for the future. There are still some volunteer positions available if you would like to be involved. ... I am also happy to receive suggestions and ideas from any of our members prior to the planning session. Just message me. If Permaculture Central Coast was a model of best practice, what would be different? How might we better align our group with the three core ethics of earth care, people care and fair share? 05.01.2022 Hello all, in response to the call for office positions in PCC, I have nominated for the position of Treasurer. I have completed 2 PDCs including with David Hol...mgren, and teach permaculture with my wife Meg McGowan as Permacoach. In support of my commitment to the Treasury role, relevant experience includes that I have been a member of my local Rural Fire Brigade for over 10 years. In this time I have been Secretary (1 year), President (3 years) and currently Treasurer (3 years). I am a qualified fire fighter Crew Leader, and for 6 years a Deputy Captain. I am completely familiar with the roles and responsibilities of incorporated associations, particularly Treasury tasks for regular and annual reporting and annual submission to an auditor. I am now retired from my profession, which was 4 decades as an IT Industry systems & security manager. I look forward to participating in the Permaculture Central Coast committee and am committed to a rigorous standard of compliance and reporting. See more
05.01.2022 Hello lovely PCC members. I have been contacted this week about the impending Annual General Meeting. I know the current executive have been asking for a well...-earned break from all their amazing efforts and as of Wednesday there were still no nominations for positions. My dear friend, Kerrie Anderson, has encouraged me to step up and take on the facilitation role of President. I have accepted on the basis that, if the membership supports my selection, I will mentor Sandra Eyles as Vice President so that she can move into the role the following year. My hope is to start a tradition of rotating these key roles and sharing the work of running this awesome group. It is not my intention to fill the role on a long term basis. For those that don't know me, I'm possibly best known to you as 'Meg the Permacoach' and I presented to the meeting back in January when we all played a learning game about the permaculture principles. My husband, Graham King and I teach permaculture from our home in Matcham, which has been under permaculture for over 20 years. I have done a number of permaculture courses including PDCs, and Rosemary Morrow's teacher training course. Prior to my retirement I was the Commander of the NSW Police Fraud Squad so I am very aware of the legal obligations that come with being on the committee of an incorporated association. I am also a trained facilitator with experience in sociocracy. What I will bring to the President's position, if elected, is a deep commitment to making sure that all members are valued and heard, and that all decisions are made by consensus. I have a genuine commitment to the ethics and principles of permaculture and will ensure that my behaviour aligns with them. Graham is nominating as Treasurer so that we can enjoy this experience together, as has happened with previous executives, but I will let him speak for himself. If you have any questions you would like to ask me prior to the AGM please feel free to message me. I would also like to encourage other members to contact the secretary about the outstanding vacant positions, or to consider nominating on the night. We all know how wonderful this group is. It's a tradition that deserves to be continued and the ethic of 'Fair Share' includes sharing the volunteer roles. See more

03.01.2022 Cooperate with nature: Did you know that micro bats can eat 1200 mosquitos in an hour? They are also essential pollinators and help to keep your permaculture sy...stem in balance without the use of synthetic chemicals. But many are struggling due to loss of habitat. Here's a great Gardening Australia story about how to make a bat box for them. You will also find ready made ones online. Always avoid touching any wild animal and wash your hands if you need to. Our destruction of their habitat and their increased exposure to us have resulted in disease risks in both directions. Let's learn to work with nature rather than against it. See more
