23.01.2022 I recently saw this picture floating around on Facebook, so thought it would be a good opportunity to explain the difference between acupuncture and dry needling, as I am often asked this question. It’s important to clear the air and clarify that myotherapists do not practice acupuncture (unless they have studied Chinese Medicine and are qualified as an acupuncturist). However, as a rule, myotherapists (and other therapists) use myofascial dry needling. I explain it to my cli...ents this way Acupuncture works with the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) philosophy that the body has energy that flows through the body. This energy is called qi. When there is an imbalance of qi in the body, acupuncturists diagnose the imbalances and choose a selection of acupuncture points along different meridians (energy channels) which they needle. Myofascial dry needling on the other hand is used by a myotherapist to relieve the tension of myofascial trigger points. Trigger points are hyperirritable spots in muscle that may cause pain and dysfunction those knots that you can feel in your tight, sore muscles. Dry needling works with a more physiological philosophy, to specifically change the tone of the muscle. Of course some trigger points will often overlap with acupuncture points, but it is important to realise that they are two different modalities. This is a very simplified way of explaining the difference, but I hope it helps :) See more

11.01.2022 I'm sure we've all suffered from muscle cramps before. Here are some possible causes...

10.01.2022 muscle fiber - /muscle/ (mus´'l) /fiber/ (fi´ber) muscle fiber: any of the cells of skeletal or cardiac muscle tissue. Skeletal muscle fibers are cylindric...al multinucleate cells containing contracting myofibrils, across which run transverse striations. Cardiac muscle fibers have one or sometimes two nuclei, contain myofibrils, and are separated from one another by an intercalated disk; although striated, cardiac muscle fibers branch to form an interlacing network.
