22.01.2022 *CHINA UPDATE* Due to several typhoons during the month of August, some September sailing schedules are being impacted. Various vessels have been delayed creating port congestion in Ningbo and Shanghai, with vessels unable to berth as scheduled. To compound this COVID-19 procedures require crew to be tested prior to vessel berthing only after reporting is clear. We will keep effected customers informed as we continue to receive information from shipping lines.

16.01.2022 The Department of Agriculture is currently managing and investigating several Khapra beetle interceptions in recently imported cargo and containers. Australia maintains a pest free status for Khapra beetle, a serious pest of stored grain and dried food products. The recent interceptions occurred in imported non-food goods, such as refrigerators, car parts, nuts and bolts, as well as empty containers and high-risk food goods such as spices and flour. Importers, businesses and ...consumers are asked to report anything unusual in their imported goods. To report a biosecurity concern visit awe.gov.au/report or call the See. Secure. Report hotline on 1800 798 636. Khapra beetle larvae are 1.67mm long, golden brown with distinctive hairs across the body, including longer hairs at the end of the body that resemble a tail. Adults are less common, and are 23mm long, oval shaped, light yellowish brown to dark brown and covered with many fine hairs. https://www.awe.gov.au//media-statement-recent-khapra-beet

09.01.2022 From 1 January 2021, GB VAT on goods valued up to 135 will be collected at the point of sale, and not the point of import. This means that overseas businesses selling goods to be imported into the UK, valued between 0-135, will be required to charge and collect any VAT due at the time of sale. Alongside this, Low Value Consignment Relief (LVCR) will be abolished, meaning that VAT will be due on all sales of goods to UK consumers valued 0 - 135.* More information is available in the below link.

08.01.2022 **Updated Statement from Qantas freight** An update to the temporary closure of our Melbourne facilities Following our advice this morning regarding the temporary pause of our operations in Melbourne, we wanted to provide you with an update so you can plan accordingly.... The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) conducted a full assessment of the sites earlier today, and we will continue to work with authorities so we can resume operations as soon as possible given the importance of keeping your freight moving. A few of our Melbourne-based team were able to help process some urgent medical shipments which were already on route to Melbourne this morning. However, both the international and domestic terminals have now paused operations completely and will remain closed for at least the next 24 hours. Until operations resume, freight cannot be lodged or collected from either terminal in Melbourne. As a precaution, weve removed flights into and out of Melbourne from our online booking portal until midnight tomorrow (4 Aug 2020), and we recommend you seek alternative arrangements for any urgent freight movements as both freighter and passenger services are affected. Well resume operations as soon as were able to and were continuing to assess other options to minimise disruptions during this time. Thanks once again for your patience and understanding. The Qantas Freight Team

07.01.2022 Prime Minister Scott Morrison has referred to the news coming out of China as speculation. I simply note that is not what China has said they’re doing. China has denied that is what they are doing and I can only take that at face value out of respect for the comprehensive strategic partnership we have with China and to work through the channels that we have under that relationship to address the issues that have arisen, Mr Morrison said.

06.01.2022 Industry Update PFS would like to update you on some local supply chain challenges. These escalating issues could mean delays to departures or arrivals & increased freight costs in the coming months. - Empty Container Management Due to a surplus of Import containers versus export containers, most empty container parks in Melbourne and Sydney have become congested. At the end of July there was an extra 30,000 TEU of equipment in Sydney alone. ... - Shipping Delays Due to adverse weather conditions & terminal disputes, we are seeing vessel delays on arrivals & departures around Australia. - Peak Season Surcharges Ex Asia We have been notified by our carriers of upcoming increased pricing. Most shipping lines are running between 102-120% capacity which means space demands are premium. -LCL rate increase ex China, Hong Kong & Taiwan Due to the increase in FCL rates it will also have an impact on LCL costs, Which are set to increase by USD $5-10 Per CBM. The PFS team will be in contact with any effected customers & are on hand to answer any questions you may have throughout this period.
