24.01.2022 Why do we hold ourselves, and other women, up to impossible standards? Why do we tear each other down and bitch behind each other’s backs but still stake our claim in the feminist movement? 24.01.2022 Societal standards led me to believe that pink represents all things feminine. That to be a good little girl I needed to love the colour pink and wear floral and floaty dresses. For such a long time I have been rejecting that. Thinking it put me above society, and sometimes honestly thinking I was better than others because I didn’t conform to the pressure of depicting that ideal when in actual fact, all I did was miss out on the opportunity to rock a f*cking excellent colour. 23.01.2022 Bisexuality comes with a myriad of misconceptions attached to it. People like my brother, who shrug off my sexuality as a phase, as indecisiveness, and in some cases completely deny its existence, have fed into a long and seemingly never ending battle of bisexual erasure that seeks to classify bisexuality in a way that is only ever convenient to others. - Anonymous Illustration via @cindylovesthis on Instagram. 22.01.2022 Emily St. John Mandel’s breakout 2014 novel presents a viral outbreak at its worst: the (to be clear, entirely fictional) Georgia Flu spreads across the world virtually overnight, and humanity’s response to this pandemic is as futile as it is now recognisable. Air travel grinds to a halt. Efforts are made to stockpile and quarantine. Those left stranded pass the time as we might: they do push-ups, learn languages, play video games. They read. 21.01.2022 ‘My perfect, idyllic reality came crashing down one Tuesday at midday. I was about to teach my class, which was already five kids down as the Coronavirus pandemic began to work its way through London. I happened to glance at my phone, where I saw a startling message from my Dad. DFAT has issued a warning to all Australians overseas that they should return. Let’s get you on a plane ASAP.’ Romy Browne Artwork via @nataliefornasier on Instagram Read Romy’s full blog post here: www.perspectivetheblog.com.au//mourning-the-loss-of-my-inn

21.01.2022 We are a generation that cares so much about social justice and things that are important like climate change, Indigenous rights and the refugee crisis. But if we can’t even have open and constructive political discussions with our family about these issues, how will we ever create positive and long-lasting change? - Abbie Gosling Read Abbie's full blog post on our website: www.perspectivetheblog.com.au//we-need-to-learn-how-to-talk

19.01.2022 When I was a teenager, you know young, naïve and full of hope, I thought my life would be sorted by the age of 27. If not 27, then 28 at the latest. And by sorted I mean, I would have a fabulous life partner, a brilliant high paying career, and an amazing house. Here I am at 40 and life hasn’t quite panned out the way I imagined. 17.01.2022 Please remember that it is not an intentional or malicious act if we don’t pick up the phone and reach out. We didn’t actively think about not calling you. We’re not sitting there thinking, ‘Hmm, who would be the best person for me to call and cry hysterically to?’ No offence, but if I’m mid-downward-spiral, I’m hardly thinking about giving you a call or sending you a text. I’m probably just trying to breathe through it and make it out the other side. Yome Retman You can read Yome’s full blog post here - www.perspectivetheblog.com.au/read/you-should-have-called-me

17.01.2022 When I stepped on the scale at the start of 2019, I froze. I had avoided doing this for so long, because I knew it would hurt to see how badly I’d neglected myself and how I was failing to put myself first. - Sheli Spector Read Sheli's full blog post here - www.perspectivetheblog.com.au//but-weight-lets-talk-about-

16.01.2022 I asked the nurse to give him another dose of meds, to help him settle. It was the last dose he was administered. The next morning the snoring had changed to a pitch I was unfamiliar with. It sounded uncomfortable and taxing for him, but the nurses knew what it meant. - Alexandra Hamilton Read Alexandra's full blog post here: www.perspectivetheblog.com.au/read/losing-dad

15.01.2022 I’ve completely shut down mentally and physically. How did I get into this situation? I can’t leave, let alone move any part of my body. I’m debilitated. Sami Read Sami’s full blog post here: www.perspectivetheblog.com.au/re/what-are-you-doing-tonight

13.01.2022 In our society there is a view that love is the be-all and end-all; it is that thing that we should all be trying to obtain and doing everything to keep. But why isn’t there the same fuss over being single? Aren’t both categories amazing life choices? 12.01.2022 Somehow, they’d replay themselves in perfect sequence as I went about my day. I’d wake up feeling like I’d lived two or three traumatic, exhausting days, depending on how many nightmares I had been blessed with the night before. 11.01.2022 A pit of anxiety forms when I meet new people, knowing that they’ll usually say, What a lovely name! or, Wow that’s so unique! but almost always follow up with, I’m so sorry, can you say it for me one more time?. There is something about ‘Eirene Sidiropoulos’ that doesn’t ring easily. 11.01.2022 My grandmother lives with us, right down the hall from my own room. I’m so close that I’m always able to hear her and my grandfather as they watch the news, cook dinner, or yell over each other. This close proximity has made it so hard to mourn and cry. - Anonymous Read the full blog post here: www.perspectivetheblog.com.au/read/dont-tell-grandma

07.01.2022 A few weeks ago, I told my mum. I watched her heart break; the boy who used to be a constant in my life, who I used to love spending time with, who I laughed with and confided in, had violated me, destroyed me. Anonymous https://www.perspectivetheblog.com.au/identi/an-open-letter

05.01.2022 Every single day politicians urge people to seek help, and they reassure us that there is support available no matter where you live or how much money you earn. I want to scream at the sentiments that only a year ago appeared on token days like World Mental Health Day and RU OK? Day. When the pandemic ends, will mental health support be swept back under the carpet? Amber Hemmes Read Amber’s full blog post on our website: https://www.perspectivetheblog.com.au//a-year-of-one-step-

04.01.2022 Imagine if every time you were expected to interact with a new or mostly unfamiliar face, your heart rate doubled, you could physically feel the blood rushing to your head and your mouth became so dry that you couldn’t even get a word out if you wanted to. - Liora Sher Artwork via the incredible Mythra Sage Art Read Liora's full blog post here - www.perspectivetheblog.com.au/read/growing-up-shy

01.01.2022 What is it, exactly, that pulls us into the world of birth charts and weekly predictions? Does it make intuitive sense that the location of the stars at birth affects who you are? Is it the romance of it? The idea of star-crossed lovers and destiny written into the universe? Or is it less whimsical than that? - Sonia Diab...
